It's definitely worth $1.99. The current version plays a little slow, but there are many improvements in v 1.02 which I have beta tested on a 1st gen iphone. The only thing Ace Tennis still has in its favor are:

    1. online multiplayer
    2. can lob/smash

    Otherwise, TST is much better.

From the prioritized feedback we received from our users, we are announcing the 1.0.2 update to TouchSports™ Tennis ‘09!

Gamers will be happy to find:

-Improved frame rates on all Hardware by offloading additional process to GPU.
-Improved frame rate on iPod touch, iPhone & iPhone 3G with platform specific Levels of detail.
-Hit return targeting system, allowing precise hit returns.
    -Improved ball physics.
    -Improved opponent AI.
-Save/Resume current game on game exit and startup.
-In-Game options now accessible through Settings Panel.
    -Level off sound effects.
-Fixes to system notification related issues.
-A bunch of small adjustments/improvements to menus and UI.

    Thanks

    Thanks man!;)

  4. Hi. Definitely worth the money imo. In it's present state it is a little limited. But believe me, there are great changes ahead.
Ok, at the moment it hasn't got online multiplayer like Ace. But for me, Ace suffers from lag even when in single player offline mode, let alone online. I am not saying Ace is a poor game- it just has it's faults that's all. It is more of an old arcade experience (which isn't a bad thing) compared to TST. TST is leaning more towards Virtua Tennis, albeit a simplified version. So, spend your $2 on it, and look forward to the update.

Its a good game, it will probably be much better with the next version.

Can we choose lob / smash in the next version? If not, will that ever come?
I'm the kind of player who likes 'surprising' opponents with speculative hit, sometimes cool sometimes stupid, but fun nevertheless.

So unless that's coming, I'm holding back.

In HHG's own words on the other thread-
"lets just say, you can put the ball exactly where you want it and have an intelligent autoshot selection based on the current state of the game"

Can't say much more as I have been sworn to secrecy

It is £1.19 in the UK store at this time.

WAHAY!! 800 POSTS! EVERYONE HAVE A DRINK ON ME! :p

    You need to stalk me?
before i bite. question regarding control.

is it the same as ACE TENNIS where you click on the spot where the ball is gonna go then tilt your device to hit the ball?

Yes it is like that. You can either tap the spot where you want to go, or you can hold your thumb in a spot that the character will run towards, then let go for them to stop running. You tilt to aim, but the new version will extend on this feature as HHG said.

I can't wait for the new version to come out so I can start giving praise/constructive critisism again- I hate being tight-lipped about the beta :D

    You wont regret grabbing this

    ive played so many games
on my ipod touch but this
stands out as one of few
    "console like" experiences
which i mean to be high praise

i didnt really like ace tennis online
(though i bet its so much better online)
and i feel this is because i had the treat
    of touchsport tennis '09

    be warned yes warned
    control consists of touching
where on the court you want to go
and tilting to direct the ball
you may hate this and fume with rage
cursing clicking away those two singles
i really like it as it makes the game easy to play

you may hate having only three female players to choose from
or you may love it and long keep the game in your top 16 page

    I hate the control

Just bought it and played it for half an hour or so. The atmosphere, graphic, etc feels like I'm playing tennis, but I'm quite disappointed with the control so far. It doesn't feel as good as playing Sega Superstar Tennis on my DS. One more example that makes me hate tilt control. We should have an option to use swipe control to direct the balls.

Yeah, swipe would seem the most intuitive, but not quite like that in Hit Tennis (also $1.99 now), which I lost interest in after 5 min:

Swiping also might obscure your view of the players, which are otherwise pretty small. TTS is still the best value and overall gameplay amongst the current pool of tennis games. It also will get better with v 1.02 and hopefully beyond...

At its current state I don't feel its even worth 2 dollars. I've played on medium and the game to me just consists of rallying back and forth for like 10 min until someone makes a mistake (which is usually me). I also feel like when i'm in the right position I hit with the same strength as when i'm out of position. So it can get really boring playing with a computer.

Hopefully the update will address these issues as it really brings down the game. So far for the price Ace Tennis is a better game. This game is really all flash no substance (at least for the time being).
