I like the rules. All is good to go then Yes it was released this year. I forgot it. That whats happens when I make lists without my iPhone near me at that time (recharging at home). I'm thinking the same, might have to add it to my list too...
Hey Awp, it'd be great if the rules you've made is added on to the first post. Im liking how the rules turn out to be.
Thanks, EP and others who've commented on the updated rules. I'm going to give it until around 5 p.m. EST for any feedback. Then I'll update the OP.
Here is my INDIE TOP TEN. 1.Brutal Loop. 2.Bobbing. 3.Cling! 4.An Alien With A Magnet. 5.Little Luca. 6.Cyro. 7.Blip Blup. 8.Beat Leap. 9.Impossible Road. 10.Duet Game. Good luck with your poll AWP69.
Nice list! Duet and Bobbing both almost ended up on my list. Great games. =o) And AWP, thank you so so so much for doing this! I definitely understand wanting to include indie games with publishers, though personally, this list is one that I'm trying to keep without em. There's a different kind of connection with people who do everything on their own. I don't know if it's because I spent 10+ years putting out music on my own before anyone really noticed or what... but the whole doing it all alone ordeal really appeals to me in multiple ways. For my 'regular' 2013 GOTY list, there's quite a few published titles on there... Meh... I'm rambling. Sorry... but again, thank you, and good luck! =oD
No need to apologize. Congrats. I know the feeling. I started my blog in August and since then I've been asked several times if I wanted to write for certain indie game sites. No way, it's a great feeling to be a one-man crew and see your efforts be recognized and noticed. Okay, back on topic, yes I liked the revamped rules, awp. Must resist the urge to keep Penumbear on the list, but I'll probably replace it with Futuridium
- Little Inferno - Plasma Sky - Crabitron - Bridgy Jones - Drive on Moscow - Oceanhorn - King Cashing 2 - Tower of Fortune 2 - Dark Quest - Deep Dungeons of Doom Still subject to change.
Would Little Inferno count as a port? Not trying to start arguments, just generally interested as I could have sworn I had it on something else before I noticed it was on iOS. I could definitely be wrong though!
Not totally sure but even if it is I don't think I would classify it as a well-known game prior to iOS. Anyone else can feel free to chime in. And, again, we may just have some vetting at the end if someone thinks it doesn't belong in the poll (...also known as my escape clause ).
I consider Little Inferno to be a port, but if I understand the rules to allow for lesser know ports then I wouldn't object. After all, the description does say "100% indie - made by 3 guys, no office, no publishers, no funding."
Ah totally forgot about that requirement - was more out of curiosity than criticism. Definitely no issue with people voting it in - it's without a doubt indie and also a lovely experience that just missed my list. But then I could probably make a top 100! Once again, thanks for doing this list, will make for interesting results!
I thought the same thing when I saw it listed (that it is a port), but it sure didn't feel like one. I think it fits the "spirit" of what we're going for here, though. Looking forward into the crystal ball for December of 2014, we may want to tweak this to iOS exclusives or first on iOS just to streamline. Or, someone should be the hardcore investigator and check the credits of every game; anything with more than 5 people is out!
Even that's iffy. Look at Penumbear. Sure it was published by Bulkypix, but it was developed by a three man team. Did Bulkypix give them funding or extra developing help? I don't know. But consider that Taco Graveyad had published two games already by themselves and then their third game Penumbear was published by Bulkypix. Did Bulkypix helping with marketing and promotion give Penumbear more exposure than their own first two games? I think so. Maybe I would have never even heard of Penumbear if not for that. That's why I think disqualifying these publisher-assisted indie games is not ideal. I've read about the kind of influence Chillingo has and that's not fair for devs, but for the most part, I think these publishers primarily assist with marketing.
I completely agree with you. The crack about no more than 5 people in the credits was a poor attempt at humor. (I'll stick to my day job!)
Ha That was also in response to those who want to exclude any games with a publisher. I don't agree with that
