Have a GOTY award for two categories: Port and Native. Then have a vote between the best Port and best Native. This way both will win GOTY for their particular category and could also win GOTY for both categories combined.

Funny that I mentioned KOTOR at a a slight disadvantage due to being iPad only and a story pops up that it's going to get a universal update. Doubt it will hit before the end of the year, but if it did, I think it may become the game to beat (at least of the ports).

Damn, I have like 20 candidates and we still have next wednesday (Cut the Rope 2, Shadow Sun, Colossatron, or other possibilities) as the last one. A lot of games will get cut, there will be angry faces and blood everywhere.

I truly hope this doesn't happen. iPhone is the perfect place for indie titles that sprouts imagination, not big watered down console look alike games.

Granted it should be about originality BUT to me its still amazing that i can play the likes of Sonic, Pacman, GTA, KOTOR etc on my device anytime i want. On the other hand a lot of games are based on older ones or have a lot of inspiration from them, such as my vote.

Looking at the former games of the week, my votes goes to...

    9th Dawn

An epic old skool Ultima style game, simple graphics, a ton of content, i got a LOT of hours of gameplay from this. Cant wait to see if they release a sequel.

    Badland

Not normally keen on one touch games like this but love the imagery, a lot of content, a great game

    Oceanhorn

If i had to vote for just one its Oceanhorn, Yeah its very Zelda-ish but i never played that Zelda game before so i'm loving Oceanhorn even more. An epic game, great value, A+++

The games I've enjoyed and played the most this year are:

Badland - My pick for GOTY 2013.
    Icycle: On Thin Ice
    Starborn Anarkist
    Can Knockdown 3
    Asphalt 8
    Bobbing
    Giant Boulder of Death
    Geovertex

Will update this post after further reflection.

I'm with you there. Just fear in a popularity contest, this is what it may come down to.

I didnt make any predictions, but i did suggest to leave out or separate the ports from the originals exactly because of this idea. These are very good safe picks.

And KOTOR is going to be Universal soon.

But its a catch 22, yeah it may be frustrating when a port simply wins game of the year but if non-iOS owners hear about quality ports on iOS (whether its adverts or they heard its won game of the year) then more people will move to iOS which means more sales which mean more apps and the devs selling more so its all good.

If a friend gets an iphone just to play his favourite San Andreas game on the move he'll for sure buy more apps (original and ports)

I mean i still find it incredible that i'm playing Vice City/San Andreas on my phone, my wife watches her weekly soap opera dross on TV and i can have a quick 25 minutes playing San Andreas, superb !!

Im with you... Im hoping games like Badland (a very easy choice for me to choose as GOTY) can compete with Asphalt or San Andreas.

The only "port" that would be difficult for me to not vote for is Sine Mora, but I'm 99% sure it won't make the vote anyway. I'm one of the few that absolutely love that game.

If Asphalt wins, at least that isn't a port. Yes, it's not an indie title, but at least it was made for mobile platforms. I think Badland could score a lot of votes since it was immensely popular. Oceanhorn also may be up there. Will it be enough to compete with the big ports and a huge Gameloft racer? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Was making thread banners for another forum, so I thought I might as well make one for TA's GOTY thread

    What do you think?

Thanks for making a banner, I can't see it right now probably due to workplace filters. When I get a chance to check it out I'll add it to the original post with credit to you.

I keep seeing people nominating games and thinking "That came out this year as well?!" It's been an amazing year, nearly half of my top twenty from all platforms are iOS games - given how many games I've played, that's pretty amazing!
