I was having the exact same problem with a different game last week and it ended up related to lack of storage space (which is why I suggested clearing up space earlier). Sorry if that's obvious and you already tried that. But if not, I'd suggest doing that first.
I stand corrected. I'm having this problem on my iPhone now, even with over 2gb of space available. It gets past the opening sequence and then goes black, doesn't save. I'll contact the developer and see what's up. Also a little disappointed to see it's not optimized for the wide iPhone screen. Glad I have my iPad to see it in all its glory. Edit: Deleting it and reinstalling fixed it for me.

I was sceptical of this adventure game because i like it old school style - where you can walk around with your character. Too many games are just another hidden object game. But wow - this game is so damn astonishing. Its realy a piece of art. The story takes place in a complete dark world - like Dark Souls. Every scene is filled with so much love for details. (Maybe love is the wrong word for such a dark game.) And the music takes you even deeper into this world. On top of this - its not a linear adverture game. Because of decisions you take in the game the end and way to the end is different. Of course it will be the same story but for me its the first adventure game since a long time with replay value. In the end i can only say this game did touch me like "This war of mine" did. Its a lesson about the different forms of pain and ways to live with it. Just WOW!!!
Thanks. Same as Rosso said above "It works until after the intro. When the prison guard is leaving, the screen turns black, music continues, game stops." I have tried to delete it and reinstall, it still doesn't work.
I had that happen on my iPhone and deleting/reinstalling fixed it. But the game definitely has a memory problem. I take a lot of screenshots and my device got low on space while I was playing on my iPad. It ended up wiping my save and I had to start over. I then had the same issue as you until I cleared up a few GB of space. I'm not sure what devs can do to prevent this, but I have had it happen with a few different games -- just not all games. So I would think there's a way to protect the saves even when low on space? Anyway, the game is too gorgeous to give up on. So I started again and will be keeping closer attention to my free space. And before giving up on the game, you might want to delete some other things and *then* reinstall the game.
Sounds like the saves are in the cache, and when the device has low space and clear the cache the apps cache/save is deleted to. It would be very easy for the devs to fix this. Try enabling optimise iCloud library if you haven't already it should then just removed your screenshots instead of clearing cache.
