yeah, they are a little retarded, didn't get a lot of time to program their 'minds'. It's what i really want to focus on now
Hey guys. Loving the potential with Topia. The basic land creation/deformation tools are solid, with a very pleasing aesthetic. My wishes are as follows. Foliage/flora deployment This would be linked in with particular fauna, as it'd be great to select individual types of grasses, bushes, trees etc. If it's possible, having fauna prefer a type of flora would make for interesting sustainability quandaries, especially if tied in with seasons. Seasons and migration Yeah, seasons. I suppose we'd need the inclusion of poles to facilitate a warming or cooling of hemispheres. If this complicates things to a difficult point, then I'd just go with seasons. That said, I'd love migration based on the position of the poles, heading north or south depending on the climate/season. It would create some unique migration paths. Herbivores not so defenseless in packs, or at least carnivores back off once having eaten a quota I think herbivores such as the Pino are too weak despite numbers. In tiny groups, sure, a carnivore pack would decimate, but in large herds, I feel that herbivores shouldn't be as weak as they are - perhaps even be able to kill attackers occasionally. This could be balanced by carnivores killing a few, then backing off after they've fed. Having them linger around the carcass of slain prey would make for a nice touch, as the herd gallops away to safety. Weather It'd just make for a nice touch, but if rain and whatnot could feed into accelerating the growth of flora for feed or simply for aesthetics, that would be great. More beasts, especially seaborne creatures It's been said prior in this thread, but I'd certainly like to see sea creatures. Even amphibious or land-going creatures like reptiles or seals. Time Toggle It would also be great to be able to toggle the time at which things move/grow etc. Day/Night Cycle This could affect animal behaviour and movement, with specific creatures either sleeping or being more active at night. -- I really do think Topia could be something huge. It has the basics down, now we just need CM to start layering in the complexity. It'd be great to have a deep, gorgeous terrarium or life experiment in your pocket or on the tablet. Topia has certainly got the gorgeous part down pat.
Topia and Battle hearts 2 were/are my most anticipated games on the ipad! This game is amazing! people like me will happily buy IAP of new animals and new eco-systems. i agree with everyone else above. saving and continuing later us huge. bummer thatits such a technical hurdle. animals: while i would love humans, i would be thrilled if you guys boosted the mating, reproducing, and agricultural sim aspect. my ideal playthrough involves me working weeks to create a sustainable habitat. day/night cycle. breeding. creating barriers with environment. weather creates ponds for animals to feed and drink, thus creating potential for congregation between species...and, yes, hunting and gathering. also, reading what you said about the desire to trade worlds, perhaps you're approaching from the wrong perspective? at first, i thought it would be an awesome idea, too. however, what youre actually doing within the world doesnt provide the same level of customization as, say, a minecraft. you'll deform and reshape a little, sure, but provided you can circumvent the size issue since you're 'recording' worlds, i'd imagine that the file sizes would balloon VERY quickly. rather, why not take the best parts of spore and farmville? with agriculture and mating, allow us to trade species and raw materials. consider this: if you add humans, they're powerful, but slow to multiply and in low numbers. they have the ability to build, ie, crafting. they can build caves, forts, and use primitive weapons. tools that we get from farming. however, there is incentive to play other species as well. birds cover a large area quickly, for example, and find rare materials to build their nests. some of those items on the other side of your continent (migratory patterns) are essential for food for other animals, or even tools for humans whereby they would need crude rafts to reach them and survive more aggressive animals hunting them along the way. buying IAP eggs for new species, seeds for new harvests, and the ability to 'trade' with other players the items you have created, would be amazing! for example, lets say i mated two compatible species (one from IAP), and created a new preset species that serves a specific "tower-like" function (this species needs water and is protective of nearby water ways making it a pain for other species like man to invade resources). there's a cap on how many of the new species the engine will allow me to make, and theres also a cap on what i campn trade. random internet Topia friend wants to trade, say, wood with me for a preset number of my new species. lets say that he didnt buy the iap needed to create the new species. solution? Any species traded into a new world where you didnt buy the iap to create it, has a timed or shortened lifespan, and you cannot reproduce/mate them. the trade becomes enticing. we both get the benefits, and somebody (or both) needs to buy iap! i'm totally spitballing, but the joy of creating and terraforming worlds doesnt change. you can still screw around and manipulate the landscape to gently nudge the fates of your habitat. the coolest thing about spore, however, was when you be ame technologically advanced enough to visit and affect other worlds to see what your toys would do there? in topia, i can imagine toiling at creating such a finely balanced echo system that creates a species of gold crapping predator wolves. might take months to nurture and breed them, but i eventually buy some iap color change skin to make my 'gold wolves' unique, then send my little terrors online. you download my nasty little away team into your world, and the wreck HAVOCK on your species, but they can die and be hunted if you attack them with your most aggressive species in large enough numbers. why would Anyone want to download these nasty things? because if you can tolerate them, they crap Gold...which is essential and can be traded. and, of course, the only way to get to the point where you can create gold-crapping direwolves? hard work creating and maintaining your environment, buying new seeds and eggs from the appstore, then taking an rpg-like approach in deciding how you want to strenghten an customize your pets to trade? how cool is THAT? i want to play that game, and TOPIA s the only thing that can make that happen! Topia's potential is Minecraft awesome!!!!
I think Topia would benefit from not having humans in the mix. There's something so pure and primal about a beast-only world.
All the ideas in his post are just excellent, maybe gradually with updates we can see a good chunk come to fruition? Also I would really love to see humans, those of you who don't want them why not some options to disable certain species?
I don't care if the saves are 10mb each, without them the game's pretty much unplayable. I'm shelving this one and waiting for updates.
This may sound stupid, but is there a way of saving your world so you can go back into it later? I really cant find a way!? Edit: just read through the first two pages, realised I did sound stupid.
I do think it is absolutely vital that the game has saves. Was a bit disappointed to find out it doesn't, really quite annoying, I hope an update can be released as soon as possible, to be honest I think the recording thing isn't really necessary, but other than those two problems this is a brilliant, great looking game!
Decided these are what I want added most. More types of animals and better AI Saves And foliage/trees so you can make like jungles and shit. That's about it lol
I think we can do interesting things with humans. Allow us to spawn them. Have them hunt animals, build villages and start farms. They'll need to settle on fertile land and near water. Let their villages grow. Villages which can no longer grow due to geographic limitations will have villagers leaving to start new settlements elsewhere. Different villages can trade via water ways using boats and over land using caravans. Humans spawned in hostile areas can be more barbaric and slow to build villages, instead, preferring to hunt and live in caves. Perhaps they attack civil human settlements? Volcanoes would be nice. Humans near volcanoes are able to make extensive use of fire and forge weapons. Humans near the sea are able to harvest fish. Humans with farms have fruits and vegetables. Humans who hunt have meat. These things are traded.
Cool! My only real GUI issues are the strange tornado-like controls of creatures, I'd rather a straight line. Selecting one is difficult, impossible if its the group of birds stuck in the water. You can lead a tike to water but he can drown himself lol. I seem to mistakenly draw animals when scrolling, I'd like to be able to choose to draw many, or draw one-3 at a time, like brushes. I'm glad you didn't get too cartoony like some games with lightning zaps to animals. And weather, water levels, others ideas are cool, tho I don't see how u can implement it. That said, actually, this world does not need to be a sphere for me. I'd be happy with a "flat planet" to implement some extreme options. And screw people. How about meteorite storms at a touch that deform land . Day/night, rain , I can wait for some cool stuff I'm sure you guys may be planning! What potential!
