Let's get the usual suspects out of the way :) :

    Avatar: The Last Airbender
    Lost
    The Wire
    Gargoyles
    Star Trek the Next Generation
    Battlestar Galactica
    Batman/ Superman/ Justice League
    Cowboy Bebop

Add more (or argue why/ why not).

    Mad Men
+1 on The Wire (the only TV show that ever made me cry like a baby)
    The Sopranos
Max Headroom (very short lived, but incredibly influential)
    The Singing Detective
    Rockford Files

That's just off the top of my head...

I am slowly downloading that Better Off Ted show. So far, pretty clever, and it does make me laugh. Ted is not so hard on the eyes either. Ahhhh...

And +1 for TNG. Patrick Stewart. Ahhhh...

    Current shows:

    Breaking Bad
    Sons of Anarchy
    Rescue Me
    The Riches
    Burn Notice

older shows no longer on air with new episodes (canceled or series ended):

    Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Angel
    Veronica Mars
American Gothic (IMHO one of the best canceled-to-soon shows of all time)
The X-Files (except for those last couple of seasons)
    The Sopranos
    The Wire
    OZ
    Deadwood
    Carnivàle
    Six Feet Under
Twin Peaks (the first season only. Seriously, that was an epic, if strange, mystery show)
