Did a search an here and didnt find anything recent, also checked google. Seems like the two best text to speech gps currently available in itunes is TomTom and Navigon. Anyone on here have any experience with these two apps? I'm leaning towards Navigon because of all the positive reviews, but after watching some youtube demos, the TomTom seems to have a nicer UI, yet doesnt announce major streets and seems to lag behind in gps location. So should i wait till TomTom comes out with an update? Anyone care to shed some light on here? Would love to wait for Garmin to come out with a GPS app for iphone, but i am not even sure if its in the near future.
Garmin stated they are not developing a GPS app for the iDevice. I've heard more positive things about Navigon - it was also recently updated to include text-to-speech. It has higher ratings than Tom Tom as well. So, it's a no-brainer, Navigon wins.
would disagree with that ! the tom tom is better to actually use ! although it will be "much" better when they finally come out with the car hardware for it - which will inhance the gps signal
Navigon is great and the last update made it even better. In Europe it is out for months and I used it on holidays in France and on a regular basis in Germany. Great user experience! The graphical design and the iPhone optimized user interface are way better than TomTom. I don't see any reason way TomTom should be better. And the external GPS receiver which TomTom had announced will be usable with the Navigon app too.
I have Navigon for the US, and I think it's wonderful. It has met and in some cases, exceeded my expectations.
I do some work with TomTom - at this moment, TomTom for iPhone will not be compatible with text-to-to-speech. As with all of our products, we're going to continue looking at incorporating new innovations and technologies to our iPhone solution - and as announced in the iPhone app store, any updates to the TomTom app in 2009 will be free to those who have purchased the application. You can get updates on the TomTom for iPhone application at http://iphone.tomtom.com - there is also a Car Kit being sold separately for the iPhone coming out in October that was specifically designed to optimize GPS reception and sound quality with the iPhone. Any questions, let me know!
