I don't want to think when I'm playing I just want to relax. If I want to think when playing I would play chest all day!
Sorry but the old rainbow six games, while ok, were nothing special. Vegas captured the real feel of being a SWAT team. It was fast paced and involves players taking cover while still maintaining tactical advantages like googles and switching silencers and this is actually how SWAT and Special Anti Terror Squads, world over behave. They pop in as fast as possible, clear the rooms and move on to the next target and Vegas gave that feeling. Sorry but the only reason Vegas is being hated on and the old, slow and outdated versions are being praised is because Vegas appeared on consoles. Having more buttons to press, does not make a game better and i am a hardcore PC Gamer.
gameloft would do well to maintain the sense me tactical achievement and fulfilment while playing the game. Hopefully they revamp the AI and polish the game to a FPS standard of modern combat 2 and the tactics of some other game and hopefully, hopefully will create a good cover system.
Well I disagree. I feel that Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 were considerably dumbed down to fit into the call of duty, action FPS market. The older Rainbow six games feel much more realistic. Instead of the linear missions which feel over the top and exaggerated, you have scenario based missions which can be planned in advance. You have 4 teams, which you can pick from a long list of teammates, each with their own nationality, attributes and skills. You can select their equipment, you can plan their route and then execute the mission co-ordinating the squads in the most efficient way. For example in Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear a typical mission would go something like this: - Select teammates (pick them depending on their skills and organise them into squads accordingly). - Select their weapons and equipment (give the sniper rifles to the snipers, SMGs , flash bangs, lockpicks etc to the assault teams) - Plan each squads route. For example I'll put Charlie sqaud on the brow of this hill because I assigned snipers to Charlie squad so they can provide overwatch. And then I'll have Alpha and Bravo squads enter the two rear doors using breaching charges and flash bangs, and Delta can come around the front to provide support and secure any hostages/terrorists once Alpha and Bravo have cleared the first floor. - Then you execute your plan and hope for the best. While Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 go more like this: - Go through this building with your 2 teammates, killing all the bad guys - reach a building with hostages, use flashbangs and breaching charges, taking no prisonors and letting the hostages run away (instead of escorting them to safety). - Reach the checkpoint, re-supply with conveniently placed ammo supplies - Rinse and repeat. It should be obvious that the older Rainbow Six games are more realistic. If it isn't then you probably aren't playing them right.
Well, good information but your missing 2 important things before I would take your side. 1) Rainbow wasnt "dumbed down" for the Call of Duty fans to like. Why? Well....Call of Duty 4, the reason this genre got popular, didnt even come out until a year or so AFTER Rainbow Six Vegas. 2) Just because Vegas had a less complex design to it, doesnt mean it was easier. Rainbow six vegas and vegas 2 were hard as **** on realistic difficulty, and yes, was incredibly realistic. Another thing, and possibly the best feature of the game, that made Vegas and Vegas 2 stand outs among alll FPSs and the original Rainbows was not just the crazy releatively new-at-the-time cover system (with blind fire which i might add which was quite orgasmic in 2006), but Vegas and Vegas 2 had crazy in depth Character Customization. That, my friends, is what made me keep going back to that game. Not only could you **** sh1t up by taking cover in a badass way, you can do it in style. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was one of the greatest FPSs of all time. Period.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a good game, but in my eyes it's not a Rainbow Six game. Ubisoft stripped away the realism and tactics and replaced it with the fast paced, frantic, action FPS gameplay that is too common today. Sure it's fun and it has a cool cover mechanic, but it's sad that they had to completely change the game so that it appeals to more people. If you've played the old R6 games and the new ones then I'm sure you'll understand that they are very different games. As to which game is the best, well of course that comes down to personal preferences. And I know for me, the R6 Vegas games don't even come close to beating the older games. Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear is (in my opinion) the greatest FPS of all time.
[Totally off topic!] Just out of interest, I wonder why there hasn't been a new Rainbow Six game? You're right about the tactical elements of the old games versus the new. I find the new games a bit too fast-paced, and you can really just run from room to room charging in guns blazing in the same way as you can in Conviction - there's not a huge reward in employing stealth tactics.
Just seen the 1st screen shots on gamelofts facebook page!!Looks alot like Modern Combat 2 with a lick of rainbow six paint(Which is by no means a bad thing)!!
I love GameLoft games as much as the next guy but: Based on the screen shots, Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard should offer up the same sort of tactical espionage that the series is known for. Really? The last few console versions haven't even had the tactical espionage the series is known for, is there any hope for this one?
