This is exactly how me and my best friend enjoy Baldur's Gate on our iPhones. Together. Slowly and deliberately. With a focus on immersion, dramatic exploration and extensive storytelling. Over an iPhone 4G connection (often shared to him from me) that has yet to fail us ever, whether on buses in remote territory, in subways and when hundreds of miles apart. Yet to even produce deleterious lag. And as super-fun as BG is on my own, everything I enjoy about it (all that you mentioned in your comment), I enjoy even more with the right co-player. This is not an argument against single player in Titan Quest (which would be a rather hard point to sustain ). Or that a multiplayer implementation in the iOS TQ port would be worth the time and effort and have a sizable target audience (though considering how popular TQ was as a LAN game back in halcyon days, it might not be a given waste either). It's an example of how it takes all kinds, how not everyone plays multiplayer for competition/grind/correlated tactics/easily accessible gameplay/PvP/slapping your fellow humans with the highest leveled stick, and how there are *many* different ways to enjoy a game, both in single player and multiplayer. (On a side-note, don't hold too high hopes for lore and depth of narrative in Titan Quest. The premise and mythical framework are obviously some of the most potent real-world high-fantasy storytelling ever put to paper, stonetable or tomb wall. And the game itself is certainly not badly narrated, and does offer some breathing room to both immersion and storytelling. But the focus is still on clicking madly on enemies, on hotbar abilities, on loot and inventory slots where you equip said loot )
Hey, I agree, everything's better when shared with the right partner! I've had great experiences with online play over the years, but it also requires coordination and availability, which I wouldn't be able to provide right now. And indeed, there are many ways to enjoy a game, and I'm not against multiplayer by any means, but my point was I would never purchase this if it were multiplayer only. I wouldnt mind it being in, and I'd probably try it out, but what I'm looking for is the play-whenever-you-want experience. About the lore, I admit I don't know what to expect, but anything at the level of Diablo 1/2 would be fine by me. Just tidbits of lore here and there, and enough care for the environments to tell a story of their own. Anyway, thank you for your insight, I've noticed some of your posts around here, and they're always well written and well thought out!
These are all very well thought out opinions, but for me its the loot, something to play on a plane, toilet, at peoples houses that i don't really like, a game that i can sit beside someone in an ICU ward and not worry about interfering with their heart monitors, not having to worry about wifi, data, ads, laws or world peace, just a game that gives me tons of loot. When is this coming out?
All we've got is "soon"! Don't know how soon, though, because it seems DotEmu doesn't do the release date scene.
Still anxiously awaiting this one. I've been itching for a premium ARPG for some time now... Few have come close since Dungeon Hunter 2 (a few rare exceptions along the way). Even without multiplayer (if that is the case) TQ will have a permanent spot on my IPad and iPhone once it comes out. Can't wait for "soon"
Don't I know those limitations. I'm lucky to have a pal who is both flexible and willing to focus some of his enthusiasm for hardcore gaming on the mobile platform. While I would purchase a mp-only Titan Quest (though I can't really visualize just what shape such an iteration would take ) - if only for the eerily satisfying illusion of a return to a simpler time - I otherwise agree wholeheartedly. A game as expansive and polished (and sometimes even immersive) as Titan Quest is a big deal to always have in yer pocket. And it's kinda paramount to this gleeful sensation of freedom from the stationary world that we can enjoy it at the drop of a blood-stained obol. With those expectations in mind, I'll reverse and say that you might be pleasantly surprised (And my hidden inner ancient history buff, dormant with the exception of Civ and Age of Empires/Mythology sessions in the 90s and early 00s, gets pleasant shivers from the environs, and the kind of indirect narrative you mention.) Thanks! Comments like that is one of the reasons TA is such a rewarding channel to share opinions through!
Well, damn, I wish I could write stuff like this. YES, now I'm even more hyped! I want this game so much, I'm craving some real arpg goodness, I've even considered booting T2 on my iMac, but I just can't force myself to play there anymore. (D3 was such a letdown in that respect) Well, you deserve it, because people like you are part of what makes TA such a beautiful place.
I would expect it soon, but they haven't posted a release date on Twitter. They did that for the last release, Ys 2. Gave a couple of days heads up.
Not the biggest iOS gamer, but every few days for what seems like ages I click on Touch Arcade in the bookmarks bar and think "This is it, top of the page, Titan Quest is out/incoming." One day it will happen, but it's hard not feeling like Calvin waiting for his Propellor Beanie to be delivered ;_;
Went to the dot emu site, there is nothing in upcoming games, really hoping to see this SOON, at least D2 is finally playable on new OS X macs now, would love to see that jump to iOS, makes me wonder if they will just to shut Titan Quest and Torchlight down, they like to do that.
I'm quite sure they're not shutting down TQ. DotEMU just tweeted about TQ around 2 hours ago, something about the Paladin class. It's in french so I don't know what they said
That's basically a teaser, they're saying their lead developer plays the Paladin, and they're asking if we think that's a good choice. It surely is coming, hopefully sooner than later.
Please release this week I agree with other posts that state we need a good ARPG on mobile! This would be a good week for it (fingers crossed)
Would be good to know if they are showing a newer playable build at GDC, as that would at least show tangible progress.
