NO! Whatever happens, don't change the simplicity of the basic game. This basically means; no powerups, no equippables. If you want to add something, it should be along the current reward system; perhaps not the coffee cups in the clouds, but how about each sun-coin adding a fraction of a second? There's too little incentive to go after them as it is, and this could replace the tick-back you get when crossing to a new island with those millions on the slope there...
Mikeg! Glad to hear the all-time Hook Champs are enjoying this one. Tiny Wings lacks hooking and thus may be outside of qpawn's Realm of Domination. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's holed up in his gamecave, mercilessly topping high scores the minute they're set.
I really must get some work done But I cannot help but have one more go - this dev will be making some serious money on this game. Hopefully Angry Birds will be knocked off the top spot.
Hey, Guise! But in a sense, I think this is very similar to games like Hook Champ. It is kind of a reverse hooking in that you have to tap to dive down at the right time. I figured qpawn would have the precision for a game like this, and so far he has proved me right.
Agreed a red coin that ticks back the sun clock one stage would be great but the game needs to keep its simplicity
It all sounded good 'til I saw spikes, and night time. I like games with speed, I hate constantly stopping for things! (I understand there has to be a challenge, but I like fast!) Might pick it up though.
For some reason I thought collecting the gold coins would bring the sun back up. I would rather see that. Then there is more of a risk reward. If you fly high constantly you will miss out on the coins. Or he can place coins in the air to grab also.
Definitely pick it up! There are no spikes, so I'm not sure what you saw. And when night comes it is game over. Beyond that you can go as fast as you like, but only as long as you can get good slides off the hills.
Yes; I meant the current coins, rather than add any form of power-up (ie. red coin!), although on reflection; a larger one at the end (or beginning) of each island for that larger tick-back might be needed. Unfortunately, I have my doubts about the staying power of this compared to angry birds, in it's current form. Angry birds has a storyline, and allows for expansion by the new levels and features, without affecting the core gameplay (or the earlier levels) The only real way this could expand (and thus keep interest) would be by adding more 'worlds', with different unique features - different birds, gravity, landscapes (cityscapes or square hills, anyone?). Just avoid tampering with the classic current level that works so well.
As others have said, the ceiling needs to be higher, hitting it when you have so much momentum is rough... slows me down considerably.
Another great review, this time from AppAdvice - 4.5/5 stars Review: Tiny Wings - I Believe I Can Fly
it took this poor guy 7+ months to create this awesome game. its simplicity is part of what makes it so great. DONT CHANGE A THING! edit: by HIMSELF i might add...
It'll come when you least expect it. Are you on the fifth island yet? That really helps. One time I finished a game with 199 coins. Ugh! Just keep working on your rhythm.
So I was thinking to myself, "Maybe this bird would have less trouble flying if he wasn't eating coins all the time..." And then I thought, "Maybe I've been playing this game a little tooo much..."
Game Impressions After reading the first 15-pages of praise, I HAD to try Tiny Wings for myself. I don't usually like running iPhone apps in x2 mode on my iPad, but it looks and sounds great. I don't like "endless" or "jumping" type games much either (ok, so it's not technically endless and it's flying, but you know what I mean)... but this game is lovely to play. The speed bursts are faster & cooler than expected and when my bird flew high and chirped happily, I laughed out loud! And its nice to see the developer participating on this forum. At this price, it's a great game that anyone can play and you won't be disappointed. I'm off for another go...
Yeah, I checked the OF boards after my last post and saw qpawn's gigantic score. You're right about the timing and precision being similar to games like HC. Tiny Wings is sort of a combination of those games, Solipskier, and more typical endless runners. Great stuff.
