Gees this thread has moved on a bit in the 2 weeks i've been away.
Was abroad with little time to play and no wifi access outside of my hotel, so apologies if I missed a few tips :(

I guess I should have read this thread before updating my game, oh well still enjoy it none the less.

Since I updated I kind of noticed that I wasn't winning as much in the games. I didn't track this, but just felt that it was the case. I decided to start tracking and I played 4 rounds of BJ, 10 chips per 10 times, here are the results

    1 - 4-6 - (no 21) 1200 bux ($12 avg/chip)
    2 - 2-6-2 - (one 21) 1400 bux ($14 avg/chip)
    3 - 4-6 (no 21) - 1200 bux ($12 avg/chip)
    4 - 3-6-1 (two 21s) - 2050 bux ($20.50 avg chip)

    total - 13-24-3 - 5850 bux (14.625 avg per chip)

Those 3 21s made it look a lot better, but still this is pretty crappy. I think they tweaked the win rate in the update. I was getting a lot of crappy hands.

There is really no reason to update and I wish I hadn't. Hopefully the new update is better.

Bux cost for floors -- changed with update?

The formula for the Bux cost to build new floors on the TTV wiki page appears to be way off as of the v1.1 update. Rough comparison seems the cost has gone up about 50% from pre-update. The cost to build floor 36 for me is 64,300 Bux!!

The formula predicts the cost should be about 42,800. I'm guessing the increase is related to the bux rushing cost for the floor, since buying a floor with bux builds it instantly.

I built a couple early floors with bux, but frankly the bux cost hasn't been remotely tempting since about floor 15 or 20 even before this price jump.

Keep forgetting my friend code: 16M0M (teen mom lol). Oh and the 0 is a zero, if that matters.

(If you're looking at the wiki, I put in the cost for floor 36 on the chart so it's now correct. The formula at the bottom of that page has not been updated.)

For kicks I did the same series of four rounds of 10 bets. Total was 18-20-2 with 7-21s for an average of 23 bux per chip. That's the most 21s I have ever seen in a short period.

Ya it's probably all random, I did another round and was 5-5 with 1 21, if you can get the double 21 than it really pays off, I've only gotten it a few times

The tipping bug seems to be affecting me quite a bit, received only 1 tip yesterday that was accountable, and maybe another 5 'ghost' tips that disspear leaving no name and no chips.

Sorta sucks a bit as i routinely tip everyone on my list daily :(

I think it's a combination of several things:

No tips --> social part of the game has died

No variety in Players Club rewards --> competitive part of the game has died

High cost of new floors, increase in bux for upgrades, very high cost of minor elevator upgrades --> building aspect of the game slows to a crawl (e.g. it now takes me ~3 days between each new floor)

Nice catch, just like the 50% increase of floor upgrade costs it looks like the 1.1 update also increased the cost of constructing a floor with bux by 50%.

The correct Excel formula for determining a floor's construction cost using bux is as follows:

    TRUNC(150*((n^2)+(3*n)-64)*8/25,-2)
where n = the floor number.

If I had to guess, NB felt that bux were being accumulated by players too quickly. In order to remedy this problem they could have chosen to either increase prices (like they did) or decrease the payouts of the casinos or increase the amount of chips needed to play (i.e. 2,4,6...20). So they chose to increase prices by 50% thereby making bux only worth about 66% what they were previously worth.

I believe that you are correct. With all of the recent problems and changes caused by the update this game has been severely crippled by NB.

The way the wiki works is that you add things yourself (you don't even need to make an account). There isn't any staff who would respond to requests, it's open for anyone who wants to make changes to make them.

I agree. For instance, I have already upgraded every existing floor to level 10 and I easily collect 8550 bux before every new floor is completed so that I can instantly upgrade it to level 10. If it had still cost 5700 bux, that would have been so much easier.

The problem for me is that the only other useful place to spend bux--upgrading elevators--is such a mammoth sink of bux. I'm currently at 6.25 fps so the next upgrade will cost me 7813 bux for a whopping 4% improvement (to 6.5 fps). And because the elevator rate increases linearly (0.25 fps per level) but the cost increases geometrically (ceiling(12.5*level2 + 75*level + 112.5)), the benefits of each upgrade are diminished.

So at this point, I am already only building 2-3 new floors per week (and this will only slow down--wait until the last floor costs 22 million coins!) so if I continue with the grind of hiring/firing bitzens etc. to farm bux, I suppose I can keep upgrading the elevator once every week or two for the next six months... What fun.

Agree with this, pretty much all of the bux i've accumulated have gone towards upgrading my elevator, currently saving up for the 6FPS upgrade, & my tower is level 28.

I suppose once i get to 6FPS i'll stop and start upgrading my levels, not because I feel that the elevator is fast enough, but just that the cost to upgrade is seeming more and more insurmountable.

At which point did people give up with the elevator and focused their bux on other things?

edit: I just noticed that I receive 2 chips (randomly) for fully stocking. I could've sworn it use to be 1 chip at a time, or am I wrong?

Also I have fishing slots :)

    Somewhere else
As do I. I got zero empty gifts today OTOH I got but a handful of gifts all in all after gifting everyone on my 30 odd friend list.

What I'm more concerned about is that my friends, you frownface included, may never know I'm tipping them. Now that's a real bummer.

Upset that NB chose to enlarge the VIP package, thus theoretically increasing its value (though it adds zero to the gameplay itself, just the esthetics) before fixing any bugs.

Feel truly "taken" by the "two chips" for ad promotion when the number of ads (if any!) was cut down to five or less, for me at least. That's flat out dishonest. Kinda like bait & switch. Who here would have opted for two chips per ad if they knew the ads would be cut way more than in half?!

Definitely feel deeply betrayed by the rise in virtual cost of almost everything IN the game. This displays, in addition to dishonesty, a nasty craven bent on the part of NB that I've never experienced in their games before.

    Excellent points, Andrwsc!

With the current high price of virtually everything virtual, the game goes slower & slower with even greater effort. AND, worse, these MAJOR changes making the game harder were all made sub rosa. While NB was busy touting its two chips/ad & wonderful new additions to its VIP package in the last update, it was silently, surreptitiously making the game much, much harder/tedious/grindy.

If NB's thought was that people would just be tempted to buy more bux or chips (many without ANY real idea of just how little their "special offer $14.99" would buy), this tactic may very well come back to haunt them by causing the loss of their current fans & future game customers. People DO learn eventually.

The worst thing any dev can do is piss off its fan base.
