I too apologize to my friends that I am unable to tip due to the update issue. I will update my game in approximately one week when all my floors are upgraded.

Note that with the 1.1 update, the IAP to unlock all roofs, lobbies and elevators has doubled in price. It shows as $9.99 at the moment (same as 1.0), but underneath a banner that says half price with 1D 9H left. I presume that means that the non-sale price jumps to $19.99.

The chip and bux IAP packages have not changed prices except the 10,000 chip and 100,000 bux packages are also half price for the next 33 hours ($14.99 instead of $29.99).

I had also noticed an increased ad frequency yesterday, starting a few hours before the 1.1 update.

That changes the gameplay somewhat, but not in a direction I like. Instead of active gameplay, we're encouraged to watch more advertising.

On the bright side, I can keep my phone open all day when I'm working at my desk, tapping on the free chip icon (and ignoring the ad) whenever it pops up. I should be able to farm a lot of chips without "playing" the game. But on the down side, I play a lot of games in airplane mode when travelling, so this won't work at those times.

Thanks for the heads up. Since I was planning to buy the roof package to thank nimblebit I will now update tomorrow.

Actually this is the first game that I have played where you can still earn currency by watching an ad even when you're not online. I play on an iPod Touch so I am reliant on wifi. So the first time I tapped on the video ad button while I was off of wifi I expected the usual "network error" message, but instead a video played and I received a free chip. So it seems that the game has an already downloaded supply of default ads if you don't have a network connection, so it should work in airplane mode as well.

Although it's a pain that incoming gifts don't always work for me (maybe 10% of the time?) I still went ahead and visited all 50 people on my friends list, so hopefully most of them will get chip tips from me even if I can't get them in return.

The way I look at it, I need to play casino games to convert chips into bux anyway, so why not play in other people's towers? There is no extra cost for me, unlike past Nimblebit games where you had to pay for the privilege of sending a gift! If I get any chips in return, that's a nice bonus, but if I get zero I haven't lost anything.

Very interesting! Probably not enough ads to last for a 6-hour flight :) but still better than nothing.

    Update Bux Windfall

I've been tracking my bux today. This is outstanding. First off, I'm earning a boatload of chips. However, the bux I've earned...well...judge for yourself.

    Chips Spent: 120
    Bux Earned: 8,450
    Bux/Chip: 70

I've almost earned my Space Shuttle. I need 103 more chips!! Oh yea! And I've still been able to keep all floors at Lvl 10.

BTW...does anyone know if the elevator upgrades increased? That's an area I will focus on improving after upgrading new floors to Lvl 10.

    DaddyofThree,

What casino game were you playing? I just started tracking my Bux/Chip a couple of days ago, it'll be interesting to see if there is any bump in payouts due to the update.

    Thanks,

The limited time special on the VIP package (if it had existed) could have have saved you lots of bux. It might still appeal to the esthetic or theme-conscious in this group who wanted it but balked at the $9.99 price tag.

Checked the wiki link so kindly posted by Mojocuervo in answer to my question about costs from floor 22-27 (http://forums.toucharcade.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=3351901) & it would appear that the cost of that level HAS gone up.

That said, I had enough coins to buy 22-27 today & today's calculation & my total came out as *exactly* what I figured out via the link the other day. So maybe the costs of some, but not all, floors went up.

I might add that any additional cost of floors, upgrades, etc. from the devs seems sneaky, somehow. It's no doubt par for the course in the mobile game industry. Squashing bugs or fixing holes, I totally understand, but essential changes have a different effect on me; I can't but wonder what will change, to the detriment of the player, with the next update.

Such changes, in addition to giving a big head start to beta testers & Canadians (who had the release well before those in the US), gave them a price advantage as well since they would have paid the earlier lower floor & upgrade prices.

This was an "asked for" feature & I'm glad NB implemented it but it doesn't help me much since it'd only work with "new friends." Others I would have already gifted the night before & couldn't gift again right away. This would be most helpful for those with 50 friends already who just wanted to send back a one-time gift.

Whoa! I wouldn't go that far! TDS had its hands in the users' pockets from day 1 (remember the initial elevator which barely made it to the 3rd floor?) & produced updates which were so buggy it finally had to close its FB page for the comments were universally negative.

That game never got one red cent from me. I simply gave up.

At best it's a mathematical mistake, at worst it's a virtually invisible monetizing "update" that will fly below the radar of most current players & all new players.

BTW, I've checked the TTV wiki & it only goes up to the cost for the 30th floor. Does anyone have the costs of floors AFTER 30?

Good point. Normally I wait a few days before upgrading anything but I had no choice when I couldn't use the "community" aspect of the game.

If I had to guess, they just forgot to change the price in the game. What I would do is take a screenshot of the info with "half price" & contact NB with it if I were charged more than $4.99. They've always been an honest company & they try hard to make good on their promises or compensate their users for their money (virtual or otherwise) glitches.

p.s.: NB, I like the 2 chips for video feature. At least that's a plus. The discounts would be nice if I wanted to spend $14.99 (too rich for my blood) or if the VIP Package included elevator speed (or small reductions in virtual price).

Lisianne it seems that you are a bit confused about the cost increase that the update brought. It didn't increase the cost to construct a floor, but rather the cost to upgrade a floor's level. The update increased all floor upgrade costs by 50% as seen at Tiny Tower Vegas Wiki Floors.

I have also copy and pasted the chart from TTV Wiki below:

As you can see, it now costs 8550 bux to max out a floor where as before it was only 5700 bux.

However, a few users are reporting that they are earning chips twice as fast after updating and more surprising is that their chip to bux average has tripled. If that's true, and not just extreme luck or coincidence, then it would mean that players would be earning bux at a rate almost 6 times faster than the current rate. That would easily negate the 50% increase on upgrades.

Personally I am still staying on ver. 1.0 until enough evidence has been collected to prove that the chip to bux average has indeed be increased significantly.

    Oh Yea!

I got my Shuttle! ... Come check out the NASA Bunker, Infinity Elevator, and Space Shuttle! R99P

Lisianne thanks for the advice. I don't intend to spend cash on the game. It's a challenge to see how far I can get without IAPs. I did ok on those 3 add ons. They cost me 19,000 bux. With my luck (especially today), that was probably 500 chips or so.

Mojo I'm betting in groups of 10. I go down my casinos in order and I play until I win at least 500 on a 10 chip bet. Once I win I quit for about 20-30 minutes to gather chips and do it again. I've learned that if I press my luck after that I almost always lose and I lose everything.

Today I have had 5 instances where I won on the first try. Two times I won on the second try. Once on the third and once on the 5th. I've had tremendous luck.

I read somewhere in an earlier post that it's possible that you have a luck "bank" on each casino. Once you use your "luck" you will start to lose money. So I win and stop then move on to the next "bank" after I've recouped the chips I played in the last round. (Believe me I don't always have this much discipline!)

I have informally tried this before and won on my slots 5000 chips 4 times in 3 days. Unfortunately I haven't seen a win even close to that in 10 days. However I did win a 6000 bux hand of poker...I had a hand of four 8s and I had a 10 chip bet.

I haven't seen any wins higher than that. Now a 10 chip bet on the Royal Flush hand would be the ultimate, but one can only dream. Oh and I have no idea how to do the natural 21 trick where the prize doubles. My wins are just basic luck really.

Good luck all. I enjoy the theories and gameplay strategies.

The formula shown on the TTV wiki is correct for any floor:

    Cost in coins = 2000 × (L^2 + 3L − 64), where L is the level number.

So for levels 31 through 50, the cost is:
    31 1,980,000
    32 2,112,000
    33 2,248,000
    34 2,388,000
    35 2,532,000
    36 2,680,000
    37 2,832,000
    38 2,988,000
    39 3,148,000
    40 3,312,000
    41 3,480,000
    42 3,652,000
    43 3,828,000
    44 4,008,000
    45 4,192,000
    46 4,380,000
    47 4,572,000
    48 4,768,000
    49 4,968,000
    50 5,172,000

Are the people seeing bux increases playing something other than 21? I wasn't seeing any additional winning playing that. Maybe slots is more lucky?

    Upgrades to Level 10

Holy...8500. Yea I did all upgrades on my Security Floor yesterday. I completed to level 8 and all my 5,700 was gone. I thought I was seeing things. Then I realized the Level 9 upgrade was higher than the Level 10 used to be. I managed to get a few wins and finish upgrades to Level 10, but it wasn't pleasant.

I have a floor under construction now and I have a few hours (or a few construction workers to queue) to consider how I handle this new floor. I worked very dilligently to raise all my floors first to level 7 and then to 9 and eventually with a few big wins in casinos, up to 10.

Do I leave this new floor at level 1 for a while and hope for the costs to go down or should I face the fact that upgrades are going to cost more now?

I noticed that while I held the last floor to level 1 I managed to earn about 1 chip/45 minutes on completing orders. Those happen so fast at level 1. I missed those chips after I upgraded the floor, but it's far better to get that constant gold flowing for the next floor.

The floor that's building now is 35 (36 if you look on friends list) and I'm building 1 floor every 24 hours.

    Grats on the shuttle, DaddyofThree!

I think I'll give your gaming strategy a go. I've seen that pattern of once you win, you have a dry spell for a while on that game. Maybe switching games frequently will produce better returns for my chip investment.

The idea of a "luck bank" is an interesting one. I'd be surprised if NimbleBit created full 100% re-creations of casino games. Having players win more often would make it more "fun" for the players.

I enjoy playing this tower game very much. I was surprised this morning when I was upgrading a casino floor to see how much the upgrade cost had increased, but if the winning chances are also increased... well... it all works out in the end.

    12YQ is my code.

I invite you all to come play a round or two.

    Discipline

Yes the user who posted earlier....said he had gobs of chips and gold saved, that's the man I want to shake his hand! I can't save anything! I have to spend my gold/chips/bux on something. I routinely look down and see 0's all across the bottom of the screen. I certainly know I should stay out of real Vegas! I'll just live the life of the gambler in our Tiny world of Vegas. Hope that strategy works out for you Mojo.

Update: Well my lucky streak ended. I went on a bender and blew all my chips. As it stands now, if my calculations are correct, I regressed to the mean and my winnings are 26 bux/chip for the day. I also saw my chip collection regress as the offers to watch ads stopped. I guess every so often the cache of ads becomes available and you can watch them. During those times the chip intake goes well above normal, but it isn't sustained. In the end I believe the extra chips from the videos will help buffer the blow of the extra costs, but the old version is probably cheaper. I stand by this.. at least until my next winning streak!

Oh and I dressed all my Level 9 Dream Jobs in space suits. The NASA Command Center is fully online!

    Take care!

You might be onto something here DaddyofThree...:)

I tried your gambling strat and got the following results:

    Farm slots: 3 spin: 100
    Spooky slots 1 spin: 750
    King 21: 1 hand: 300
    Techno 21: 1 hand: 800
    Temple 21: 1 hand 300
    Dwarven Poker: 5 hands: 400
    Pyramid Poker: 1 deal 400
    Pattys slots: 1 spin: 1250

That comes out to a little over 30 bux/chip

If you take out that one "bad" dwarven poker, its a bit over 47 bux/chip.

Granted this is just a single point of data, but I'll keep at it, and see how it does.

I guess I am just super unlucky :( I just tried this as well and here are my results:

(Betting 10 chips on all games)
    Snorkel Slots: 4 spins: 100
    Pyramid Poker: 1 hand:100
    Jungle 21: 3 hands: 300
    Techno 21: 2 hands: 150
    Basement Poker: 5 hands: 100

That comes out to exactly 5 bux/chip.

EDIT: I just did a 600 chip (10 chip per bet) Panda 21 run and won 21,418 bux. Which is about 31.5 bux/chip. So I think I will just stick to my Blackjack sessions and continue to ignore the Slots and Poker that don't seem to favor me very much.
