Nope, it's random as to what they buy.

Not really sure why this is a mystery. Open up a store, view it's stock levels, come back in 5 minutes, hey, look at that, they're all down by non-equal amounts that can't be replicated. "Mystery" solved.

Heck, let's not even make it that complicated to figure out the sales model: just watch the customer bitizen's "speech" bubbles that show what they're buying for a minute.

Stock them all unless you're an OCD sufferer without a life. Technically speaking, if you could live your life around constantly playing this game, sure, you can begin restocking the tier 3 item the second it runs out and put the stock out the second it finishes stocking and possibly make a few thousand more coins per store per day than those fools who just play the game. If you can't manage that sort of efficiency, then you might as well stock them all, because a shop that isn't doing anything isn't earning anything.

Besides, consider this: in the best case scenario of you managing to keep something in stock constantly, you can sell about 12,000 items in 24 hours. If you only stock tier 3 items, you can't actually do that because of stocking time. The tier 3 only dude is going to, at most, move 7,000 items a day on average.

So, if you try and stock everything and keep your store up and running constantly, your maximum output from a shop per day would be about 24,000 in revenue, and about 21,000 in profit. If you just stocked tier 3 items, your maximum output from a shop per day would be about 21,000 for a profit of about 19,000. In fact, even if the stock whatever store is only up 80% of the potential time next to the OCD store that's up as much as possible, the OCD store will still only make a few hundred more coins.

Trying to min-max at Tiny Tower is nothing more than a way to kill time for very small or even non existent gains.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense I guess. I might just keep having them all stocked then. Just annoys me when I see their coins going up by about 20 each time when mine only reaches about 11-15.

    I didn't say it wasn't...

As I said in my previous post, if you have only tier 3 items stocked, they can only buy tier 3 items. So you will earn more than if you had other tiers also stocked, as if you have all tiers stocked you will still get the same amount of sales, but earn less, as some of those sales will be for 1 and 2 coin items, whereas if you had only tier 3 items stocked all sales would earn you 3 coins.

I mentioned stocking tier 2 items so there would be something to sell while tier 3 is restocking, if that was what confused you.

I don't know what 'mystery' you are referring to in your post...

Found a bug which I don't know if it's been mentioned or not: some bitizens which supposedly come into my apartments don't appear when I open the apartment. I get the message "XXXXX has come to your tower", but when I open the apartment he/she's not there.

Just in case it helps, I'm trying to gather 100% dream jobs, evicting those who I have without working in dream jobs and getting new people by waiting for them to arrive to the floor or by using bux. When I use bux everything's ok. The problem arises when the people arrive with the elevator. I'm using the latest elevator, btw. This bug began appearing after I bought the blue elevator, but never before the blue elevator.

If it has been mentioned, sorry. If not, let me know if you need any further details to track the bug.

Upgrading to v1.3 ? Any Problem With Losing Bux?

    Hello!
I think I read but was unsuccessful at re-locating an earlier posting that mentioned a problem about losing Tower Bux after upgrading to v1.3.

I've been bed ridden and manically playing Tiny Tower's older version that still pays 3 Bux for placing a Dream Jobber. As a result I have accumulated a sizable hoard of Bux(es).

If I upgrade now, will I be taking a chance of losing any Bux?

Thank you to all who maintains this forum and to all who post such interesting information and strategies on playing Tiny Tower.

    Bitizens are Beautiful! :)

edit: I upgraded and my Bux bank remained unchanged. What a relief!

edit: The latest elevator is amazingly fast. THANK YOU Nimblebit for this latest update!

Really enjoying this update. It got me to finally leave 1.0 of the game heh and oddly I feel like I'm adding floors faster. Probably because I've hit upgrade 2 on every single business I own and am now working on upgrade 3 for them. Less maintenance, less downtime.

    Ideas for the future :

1, Touching the coin or t.bux area drops you instantly to floor 1 like how touching the top takes you to top floor.

2, Add the upgrading ability of businesses to the elevator for income purposes.

3, I like the idea mentioned elsewhere of a vip visitor who wants to go to a series of floors. This visitor wouldn't say the floor number, just the name and we would have to take them to each in a chain. Doing so would reward a guaranteed t.bux or something.

4, Maintenance mini game. Entering it causes power to go out on random floors, player gets to them and taps them repeatedly to fix the power. The player is on a timer and time is added for each successful repair. The reward once time expires is a coin multiplier that turns into tower bux after a certain multiplier.

5, Separate sounds from music in options as a third toggle. The music becomes mind numbing afterawhile but I still value hearing stock sounds and whatnot when leaving the game running nearby.

    6, Renameable Bitzens?

Those are the ones that come to mind, this game rocks and I can't wait to see what direction you guys at nimble go with it in the next update. Thanks again :)

/buys bux to support future efforts!

Sorry, misread your post. The "I think.." threw me off and I read it as if what you wrote was missing the "just" changing the meaning, my bad

It's nice to see sales flying again. I don't know if it's a placebo effect but elevator riders, VIP's, and BUX bonuses feel like they are coming sooner too. Only 200 more BUX for the elevator.

^for some odd reason my real estate VIP never moved residents that all had the same dream job

though recently I had to force the app to close because it acted like it was on a bitizen profile and I couldn't get it to stop, sometimes it would vanish but it was like if it was invisible

Read the other thread about strategies. One was to use BUX to stock the third tier item. I can see how this would help if you were attempting to get coins.

Would it also be a viable strategy if you were to do this to try and build up BUX since you have set it up so that there will be more chances to fully stock a floor? Ie. Spend a BUX in the hopes of gaining mire than 1 BUX, assuming you were actively playing the game.

I'm pretty much going to go with this regardless, but are there any benefits of upgrading your businesses so that they all have the same restocking times for their items?

You could time it so you only check in with the game at specific times ie. Morn, break, lunch, subway, etc... But then once you get a delivery or other VIP then it'll mess you up.

That said, after I upgrade my elevator, I do plan to set all the faster stores like food to the same minimal time.

That fits in neatly with why the new floor prices seem to go up by 20-25k each time, so I guess your floor progress would be constant if not for those blasted residential floors (I always find them a bit anticlimactic, hehe).

I'm up to 84 floors and I was building one a day quite steadily for awhile, but somewhere around 80 or so that target has been slipping out of reach. Which is fine, I think that's nicely metered progress in terms of game design.

My rule of thumb has been if I'm restocking and I have bux and the tier 1 takes less than half an hour to stock, I upgrade. I'm thinking if I can get all the tier 1 stocks to 30 min restock times, I can improve uptime on them quite a bit.

Actually the upgrading has helped combat my one gripe with the game. Doing restocking on 84 floors can take a decent amount of time that will only ever get longer. It's a seriously large amount of buttons to press. Unlike say Pocket Frogs, each level introduces more and more buttons, whereas in Pocket Frogs you unlock new breeds with greater investment/return margins, but you're still only breeding 8 frogs at a time (nursery upgrade aside). Same with Trade Nations, you unlock new things the shops can make, but you still have a relatively small number of shops.

In fact in Pocket Frogs as higher breeds take longer to mature, higher level characters probably check the game less often as they go along...but in Tiny Tower as your tower grows it actually takes more maintenace. Which is probably a bit backward, since you (or I anyway) play a game like this a lot at first when it's a novelty, then back off later as I'm still enjoying but balancing other things.

Anyway, not a big complaint, just glad this dilemma has eased somewhat thanks to upgrading.

My friend was struggling to understand how this qualifies as a "game" per se. My defence was it's less about win/loss conditions and more like planting and tending to a tree. Major catastrophe aside, the tree will either grow a little or alot over time, but it's the tending and watching the progress that are enjoyable. And I suppose for me there is an efficiency game in there as well.

Also I live in a 36 storey apartment building, so there's something nicely meta about ferrying bitizens in a lift while I, myself, am riding in a lift. Now if we could just get bitizens to pull out an iPhone while they're in the lift and start ferrying their own bitizens, we could start reaching Inception levels.

That seems to be a perpetual issue that Tiny Tower has had... especially as the towers get quite large.

Although I know it's gotten much better with the latest updates.
