Just downloaded and going to give a try hoping to learn a lot from this game as a Dev. Their trailer was sweet but their screenshots could use some work.
of course I have FTL and Brogue but he has iPad or not I don't know so not in the list but that includes Desktop Dungeons lol
Don't forget Crowntaker, Tinykeep, Don't Starve, Runestone Keeper and Dungeon of the Endless. All of them are sort of great rogue-like games on iOS.
It is quite a bit of fun although I agree luck plays a bit too much of a role. once you figure out the skills you can minimize your chances of getting into a bad situation. Managed to get a score of 47000 (top score?) it's too bad at level 10 you can no longer level up. Fun game but I wish there was a bit more depth maybe classes and stuff with diff skills would be cool. Who knows maybe I'll make my own that has more of an rpg feel
I buy or not to buy sometimes thinking because that is too old so unplayable, retina problem and screen size problem. it's all ok? and if I buy which one?
So overall I'm hearing it's making a lot of depth as far as rogue like and lacking a little depth as far as a strategy game?
It's a cute, very light little game. Will be entertaining for a week, but I don't see any lasting appeal. No true exploration feel to make it a real roguelike, and it would need much more depth to be a great strategy game. But for a few bucks, it's fun for some breaks.
About 5-10 mins? I usually pause at the start figure out what I'm dealing with and go from there. Don't be afraid to use your skills to position the npcs where you need them to kill them. Very polished but much more of a puzzle game than a rogue like. As far as I see you only ever get 1 quest per play so there are 3 diff quests total in the game. Depth is def lacking but it was fun while it lasted. Worth $3? Yes but I also think a good deep rogue like should cost $5-10. I do love the simple gameplay but there's no reason for shallow rpg. 3.5 stars if I could.
TBH I think that the ability to wait whenever you want would make this game wayyy too easy. Sure, it's a pretty standard feature for a lot of roguelikes, but usually those are the ones with huge maps where positioning isn't necessarily a make-or-break aspect of staying alive, like it is here. Remember: this is a roguelike - you're supposed to die, like a lot. And I managed to get to the dragon a few times after playing for a bit, and I'm no genius, so it's clear that this was a decision they made, not an erroneous oversight.
On the surface they seem a bit similar, yes. But I think there are worlds between them when it comes to depth. 868-Hack fanboy here I really think Hack is one of the best games ever.
The level 10 cap and seeming shortness have really got me pausing on this one. I love the style and apparent feel of it though.
I'm enjoying this. Definitely on the lighter side, but it's fun and a good time killer. Good mobile game. I'm #23 on the leaderboard currently.
