Thus far the only way I've found to crack the AI bases in skirmish is to establish a fire base of long range artillery, protected by troops to keep the arty from being overrun, and then leap frogging forward until you can get in range to give your tanks and infantry artillery support during the assault. Skirmish really could use a save game, it's the only hang up for me about purchasing. Or I need to figure out a better way to break into a base.
