I see now. The troops only move with the hero when the turn is ended. And the selection you make is like a default that the troops will obey for all future hero moves.

@theOctagonTheory: Exactly so! hehe, that made me laugh. I had a look at your game, as an old board/wargamer this looks like I'm gonna like it. Is hotseat play integrated?
Are you asking about my game, The Octagon Theory? if so. It does have human vs human play (hotseat or pass-and-play).
Cool. There's a free but really limited version called Simple Board Game. You can also play against humans on-line in the Flash version of TOT. If there happens to be another player (usually me) online. And thanks.
some people have serious aggression issues. I post a review we just got in the UK App Store because I think it's quite funny, if somewhat scary. On a side note: we are currently considering making the game easier (at least on easy/normal). I would value opinions from players who at least completed the first five maps on easy setting.
^Wow, that might be the most epic rage review ever! All devs should just make a super easy mode called "Retarded"...no offense to anybody with personal issues. I haven't made it to the 4/5 level yet, so I can't really say anything about the difficulty.
wow That is funny stuff I actually had a good laugh from the part where he said I threw it through the window and I dont mean my window I mean my the house across from mine LOLOLOL
WOW! You're right. Funny & scary Okay, I just finished the game (Chapter 1) last night after probably 3-4 days of playing on easy level. As a lover of turn-based strategy games, it did take me a bit to figure out some tactics/strategies that would work. If you don't play TBS games very much, then I can understand the above review of the game. I did find it somewhat frustrating early on, but it did get easier as I learned the game mechanics, etc. Some suggestions... 1. Have some sort of help/manual either in-game or online besides the tutorial. I ended up taking screenshots of the tutorial pages because I couldn't find a way to access them or go back once I passed them. 2. Speed up troop movement. I realize that this may not be possible, but it would help. I love the animations, but I had to start playing with Quick Movement & Quick Attack on and Show Battle off. 3. Have better or more explanation about terrain and troop management in the tutorial. I was able to figure it out pretty well after some trial and error, but some people may have problems with it. Thanks again for an awesome game! I just started playing though a second time on a harder setting. I'll see how it goes.
Here are a few tactics that helped me on later boards: 1. Save often. I think you can have at least three "saves" per profile. I started saving after each turn in case something went horribly wrong (and it will). If you get into a bad situation, then just revert to an earlier saved game. 2. There doesn't seem to be a time/turn limit on the boards (except one that I know of), so make sure your heroes and units are healed before moving to the next skirmish on a board. Most enemies won't attack you unless you get close enough to them. Heal up, then move forward. Heroes can heal themselves every few turns and can heal associated units every turn as long as those units are next to the hero. 3. The Logistics & Expert Logistics skills (under the Hero's Command skill tab) give your units +1 and +2 hitpoints. Good for survival. Good luck!
great feedback! thank you! you can always reset the tutorial windows through the "tutorial on/off" switch in the options menu. truth is, it's not optimal. we'll see what we can improve. AI fast-movement will come with the next patch, due to be uploaded next week. Much faster now (if turned on, off course). this will be covered in the interactive tutorial that's in the making. the next patch won't see it, but we'll begin working on it very soon. that's the spirit!
yes! we're in the Games/New & Noteworthy category in all the big european countries. Let's hope in the US too! upcoming patch features: Gamecenter Achievments you can now switch through all units that havn't moved yet instead of shaking the device, you may now tap on a button after lvl up the game goes to the skill tree screen better visibility when a hero levels up fast AI movement (options menu) it's now easier to gain three stars when playing on easy difficulty made easy even more easier warning if you havn't added the maximum amount of units to your heroes before going to battle two errors in the IAP items were fixed enemy turn - player turn message planned: interactive tutorial
Can you post a manual or even a page on your site that explains the inner mechanics of how the game works, I think that would help a lot. Here are some of my comments: How does combat work really? For example, you have the damage that the unit does but the hitpoints or unit count is 10, does it directly affect that or do units each have a no. of hitpoints on their own? How does armor then affect this damage? How does the bonus units get from their heroes add up to this damange / armor (straight +1/+2/+3 to them or plus on %)? Some commands or buttons are non-responsive on an iPhone screen. I think the active area for input is tailord for iPads and wasn't adjusted or made bigger for an iPhone size screen. For example I have to press multiple times on some commands or items to get the description to get displayed on the info bar. Is there really no chance for you to change the way the mechanic of no more additional movement after you select another character? At the very least make if final only after you have selected a move command for another character. Thanks for a great game, just needs a little more updates to make it greater!
thx savant! Each single unit (say, one Berserker) has a number of hitpoints equal to the units defense value x10. The more hitpoints a unit has, the more damage it does. Depends. % values are added on the base value of the unit. Straight values are being added after the % values are added. We designed the game on iPod 3 / 4 and iPad 1/2. Could you tell us exactly which commands/buttons are non responsive? we talked about it, but came to the conclusion that it would alter the gameplay too much. I know it's very tabletop like, but I also feel that for a strategy game to work, it's sometimes necessary to include rules like this one.
Difficulty feedback Hi guys, I've played just about every turn based strategy game available on iOS and overall I've been impressed by this game. The developers asked for feedback on difficulty which has prompted me to respond. As a seasoned veteran of turn based strategy (I was playing Lords of Chaos on the Atari ST aged 8 and I have not stopped playing turn based strategy since) I decided to play through at Normal, Throng difficulty as I thought that'd give me some space to learn game mechanics during the first few levels and give me a challenge as the game progressed. I found fighting toe to toe quite tough so I focussed on killing the enemy heroes to get through the levels. Using the kill the hero strategy I managed to get up to 'Dark Portals' without too much of a struggle. I did need to make a number of reloads, most of which were due to misinterpreting some of the game mechanics as I went along. Upon attempting 'Dark portals' a couple of times I have decided that I needed to go back and start again. The kill the hero strategy is a big mistake. I missed out on a lot of experience... So much experience that by the time I had got to Dark Portals my heroes and units were simply not powerful enough to beat the enemy, even using the kill the hero strategy. That seems quite harsh for normal difficulty. When levelling, I balanced upgrades between heroes, magic and command skill trees. This balanced approach did not work well as enemy heroes always seemed to be more powerful than my heroes, and their units seemed to be more powerful than mine. This led to my troops getting mauled by the enemy in later levels, even when they should have had the advantage. E.g. my melee units were getting destroyed by enemy heavy units. Once again, that seemed harsh for normal difficulty. On this second play through, I'm focussing on levelling the 'command' abilities as I think this will help address most of the difficulties I faced. After spending about 6 hours with the game I feel I have learnt enough to be able to attempt Normal Hordes. Ill let you know how I get on.
If it's like Fire Emblem where you have to not just win the battles (that is easy) but win them in a way that maximizes experience (e.g., disarm your stronger units so they don't actually kill the enemy and you can save all of your experience for the weaker units) that would really turn me off.
