Reviving the thread to point out the post that has been published on the developers' site, about the long and difficult design process that lead to Threes! as we know it, and the sadness of the ripoffs. http://asherv.com/threes/threemails/
Interesting read. Technology has advantages and disadvantages, and the ability to "clone" is definitely a disadvantage (at least to the developers). Ultimately, the first is not always remembered as the best, or even as the first. Hopefully history will record this correctly, and ultimately your game is a success.
Awesome read. Went through it all, not a game developer so a lot of information I don't understand but it was awesome to see where it came from.
Sadly, ripoffs are a thing on the appstore. If any semblance of control is to be put in place, the burden is on Apple and it seems that they are not budging. In any case, the most successful competitor to this, 2048, doesnt even com
I don't usually like puzzle games. But I bought your game (and I'm enjoying it) because you guys out your heat and soul into this game. I believe you deserve my support more than other developers who clone games or use games as a cash cow. Good in you guys! Don't be disheartened, cause there will always be people who support the real heroes; the ones who are in it for the passion and not the greed.
Leaving politics aside, I found particularly interesting that the rules of Threes! were explicitly designed to counteract the "corner strategy"--something which the author of 2048 was clearly not aware of. This sort of reminded me of how DES was designed to be resistant to differential criptanalysis, when nobody outside of the NSA knew of its existance.
