This doesn't work for me on iPad air. It starts up but then the sound stutters and it crashes right after Game Center login and starting a actual game. Anyone else able to run it on iPad air?

Cool! I've played some more, though haven't had time to watch the video again yet. Got plenty of lower scores, but still got more high scores than I used to. For now, that makes the game less frustrating at least.

Anyone else noticing that new top scores (the top 32 games the thing is supposed to save) isn't working right? I've been working on at least trying to get all my top 32 at 3000 pts or better. I've gotten a number of them over that today, but I don't seem to be changing how many of the low ones still exist (6, I think). I don't track every score, but I know my lowest is still there (2727) from yesterday.

Here are a few examples from a recent game.

Screenshot 1: This is my ideal board setup early in the game. I like to bring in new tiles on the left and bottom, and compress them up and to the right. If a '+' tile is next, I'll swipe down or left and hopefully match it with one of the larger tiles along the top or right edges.

Screenshot 2: The "greedy algorithm" here would be to swipe upward to merge the 1 and 2, but this would create an unsightly traffic jam with two blue tiles in the center of the board, very hard to get rid of. Much better to swipe Right first, THEN Up, to create a nice cluster of 3's in the middle of the board. Together with the 3 coming in, this sets up a nice easy 3->6->12->24->48->96->192 merge.

Screenshot 3: Swipe up first, not right!! A right-swipe here would be disastrous if the new red tile comes in on the second row. In general, with a 'T'-shape of four matching tiles, it's important NOT to inadvertently merge the two middle ones and create e.g. a 3-6-3 checkerboard. On this particular board, swiping Up-Up-Right-Right ensures a nice path to create the 192.

I noticed this tonight as well. Many of my mid range scores are not saved. I've completed many games above my lowest listed score, 522, that are not listed. Shouldn't the lower scores be updated OR is this list only updated once one obtains a new highest score?

I started playing like this but you can't hold that up for a long time (maybe until you get the 192), so it should only be a tactic for early game. There won't be enough space later to hold the next lower card for the highest card on 2 sides. Beside that you will need the option to move into 3 directions.

So my tactic is to hold the cards in the upper line, highest card on left corner and lower ones sorted to the right. The highest card should always stay in the corner or at least in the upper line. There are some other rules to follow like you mentioned in your post.

I got my first 1536 yesterday (score round 71000) and I think it won't be the last one since the last update. I get score above 20000 nearly every 2nd or 3rd game.

I noticed that others have problems reaching high scores so I thought about sharing my expecriences with a screen capture. Maybe I should do a crowd-funding for buying a screen-capture tool :D

In the interest of keeping this thread diverse and active, I would like to present to you a new challenge apart from reaching a new highscore, lowscore (is that even a word?) or one of the devious *lock achievements:

End a game with only white cards on the board

An example is shown in the attachment.

@AsherVo: I fully expect this to become a new hidden achievement in a coming update. Make it happen!

First I thought that it would be too easy but maybe it's a good training for beginners learning to handle the 1+2 merging when trying that challenge.

Congrats on the 1536! I'm still working on that one.

The screen-capture app Reflector is $12 I think, and works perfectly well for capturing Threes. No special hardware required :D

Nice idea. The converse of this would be "Color-lock": a checkerboard of white and colored tiles. Also, I wish the Lock achievements in Game Center (or in general, most X's on a board) were secondarily sorted by score, rather than by date achieved. It would be really impressive to see someone achieve 3-lock with a 768 on the board!

I wonder if it keeps track of things like "your first game with a 384 tile" and the like? It does seem fairly arbitrary which games it decides to keep. Also, I wish it would keep special achievement boards, like 3-lock.

Thanks Ben. I got a couple more ideas from those - but when I used to try to play the corner strategy, I always ended up getting hemmed in with the color blocks. Haven't tried it since I made some improvement in strategy though so i guess I better try again.

I thought it kept your highest scores, bit like a top ten so if you beat your 8th highest score then the new score would take 8th place and the old 8th and below will move down and what was the old number ten will be removed from the list. I make double sure that I have the signing enabled when my husband had a go because I'd have to delete all data if he beat one if my scores in my name, it would drive me batty lol.

Methinks me found a slight bug. Anyone else seeing funny numbers like this on the 'Hall of Records' screen?

    Game Impressions

I saw and heard all the hype about Threes, but I've been burned so many times before with hype, I guarantee I've wasted 3 figured on games that everyone swooned over, but I couldn't get into them 1000000000 was one of those games, I just didn't enjoy it.

But threes kept getting talked about EVERYWHERE, every apple site covered it. So last night when I had to take my nightly throne trip, I wanted something quick and new to play. It's been months since I bought anything of consequence, so I threw caution to the wind and dropped a toonie on this and... Well, $4 on out there. I figured I would regret my purchase before I left the bathroom, or would spend a few minutes and move on to out there.

As it stands, it's been about 24 hours since my purchase. Prior to yesterday, I had been attached at the hip to my 3DS, and I've got a ton of amazing games to play, primarily Bravely Default, but alas... Not only have I not even opened Out There, but I've barely opened my 3DS.

Why? This damn game! There are a very select group of games that have sucked me in to this extent. Dungeon Raid, Triple Town (which I gave up on due to the IAPs and "limited turns") and... Actually, I can't even think of another game with this level of pick-up-and-playness to it. I'm not considering long form games like Waterdeep, Carcassonne, Republique, as it's apples to oranges, but even considering those, this game is so absolutely amazing.

I often don't rave about games, and those times I do, they are games that I believe go well above and beyond absolutely everything.

Threes! Is, hands down, the only game I would put alongside Dungeon raid as my "stranded on a deserted island" game. If there was an RPG progression system similar to dungeon raid, then the decision would be much, much more challenging.

So I urge anyone who likes games similar to dungeon raid and triple town to give this a shot.
