Sort of? What, did you cheat at making fractals too? ;)

Yes, they are corporate computers and kind of slow so the resolution is not a problem. Works perfectly.

Wow guys, I'm touched that you like Frax so much!! If you'd like to continue the discussion, we should probably move it to its own thread, and keep this one on topic. I've also sent some Frax promo codes to TouchArcade to see if they will cover/review it.

Now I'm just looking forward to an appropriate break time when I can properly play Threes with the new '+' hints --- 1536 here I come! :D

    The other music of Threes!

Just a quick post before I go to bed. We are all very familiar with the soundtrack of Threes and the little blurbs of speech from the different cards. But there is another acoustic aspect that we haven't touched on: the sounds when your score is tallied up. (Hey, I'm running out of things to pick apart, okay?)

Armed with my trusty chromatic tuner app Cleartune and a Youtube video with very little background noise, I set out to discover the other part of the scoring system.

Every time a card is added to your score, it jumps, its point value appears above it, and you hear a xylophone-like *ding*. Careful observers will note that the *ding* gets higher the higher the card. Indeed, the *ding*s follow a C major scale starting with C4 (@261.6 Hz) and going one note up for every card value until the highest card on the board makes his or her victory blurb. The corresponding notes to all cards are therefore:
    3: C4 @261.6 Hz
    6: D4 @293.7 Hz
    12: E♭4 @311.1 Hz
    24: F4 @349.2 Hz
    48: G4 @392.0 Hz
    96: A♭4 @415.3 Hz
    192: B♭4 @466.2 Hz
    384: C5 @523.3 Hz
    768: D5 @587.3 Hz
    1536: E♭5 @622.3 Hz
    3072: F5 @698.5 Hz
    6144: G5 @784.0 Hz
    …
    Good night.

Splitting hairs, but isn't it c minor? The entire soundtrack is c minor.

I didn't check the frequencies posted, but if there are no flats it's not c minor.

The 12's make an unmistakable E-flat. Just double-checked against my electronic keyboard. Kamikaze, can you check again?

You are correct. I checked the video again. Fixing my post above now.

Edit: Crazy thought - how many musicians have we here in the thread? Could we cover all instruments to play the Threes soundtrack? I play Saxophone and got the Clarinet solo covered ;-)

Piano here. I caught myself sounding out the tune on the piano earlier today, funnily enough.

Finally bought this.. Better than I thought it'd be..
I didn't get addicted to puzzle juice like everyone else, so I wasn't sure if these types of games are my thing.. I thought it'd be very math orientated, but not at all, if anything, it's just a match three.. With 3s.. I wonder if this game had of been color coded instead of numbers, would it have gone as far..I guess it wouldn't really work that way because you bundle up the stacks..
I do wish there was something else, a little more zing. A separate frantic mode, with burning tiles, multiplyer, timers, bombs, and other bonuses. Something to make it frantic. While I love this game at the moment, I just know I'll be sick of it soon enough, with no new modes or franticness..
    Hacked leaderboards already..

    Bug reports:
    Device iPad mini

The volume doesn't work for me, it worked for the first 20 seconds then stopped.

froze during tutorial when the game centre notification popped up.

That's very true. I could clap, or hum ;)

I am probably missing out as I play on silent most times...

As I've posted before, my scores are consistently weak. Had a 9k and 3 around 7k but tons under 2k and 1k - never felt like I had any good chance to do better with the high scores just seeming to be rare luck (and those aren't very high anyway).

Well, last night I watched the "Hands on with Threes" video someone linked to and just watched them play through a round. I didn't study carefully - just watched. Then I played myself 3 times. Got 3k twice and 7k one. Nothing lower!

I'll try some more today and this evening I'll probably watch the video again. I always suspected there was something I was missing and needed to see some better players doing the game to overcome it so maybe I was right. Would be even better if there were explanations of why a person made a move, but this seems to have been a big help. Scores still are nothing like the better players here, but sure beats getting the really low scores over and over!

I'm going to try to analyze my next few games, and look for positions where I find myself thinking a long time before finding a really good move. Then I'll screen-capture those and post them, with explanations. Perhaps others can do the same.

If it were easy, I'd stream my iOS screen to my Mac and record it together with spoken commentary. Then again, I'm still working towards my first 1536 so maybe I'm not the best person to ask :D

The Reflector app is a great and cost-effective way to stream and record medium-quality video from iDevices to desktop. For higher-quality video (720p60 or 1080p30), HDMI capture devices like BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini are the way to go; I've used them to record some amazing video of Frax in action, but they chew through gigabytes in minutes! Slight overkill for Threes, unless you're trying to capture Capt. Triad saying "Yarrr!" in ultra-hi-def slow-motion ;-)

That's just my point: I'm not a streamer nor I have I any ambitions to become one. Paying for software or hardware just to record a video of commented Threes gameplay is out of the question.
