I do think the devs should say 'i've got 10 promo codes, please PM me if you want one but also please give an honest review...' etc To me a promo code is a good way of getting feedback, we know so many people dont leave reviews on itunes (or theres tons of one line fake ones). Its a shame when a promo code is used and theres no response about the game , whether it was good/bad etc as to me thats the whole point of them But if a dev just lists them then yep any guest or that will just use them (as they are allowed to), the dev wont get any feedback so seems a bit of a waste though
I am going to puke when people start forming a 'touchArcade promo code elitist group' here. Leave the promo code giveaways to the devs. They surely can handle it.
I lurked as a guest for ages just to check info on specialist threads like icade and blutrol. I saw the regular posters and admired the tone used (mostly) so decided to join. Nothing wrong with guests IMO. Just means we're interesting and attractive
I think devs should utilize reddit, /RandomActsofGaming Boxcat did a giveaway a few days ago for Nameless: The Hackers. Easy way to do it and not have to worry about being bombarded with PMs. to see what I'm talking about... http://www.reddit.com/r/RandomActsOfGaming/comments/1ajhvn/giveaway_20_x_nameless_the_hackers_ios_promo_codes/
But it is frustrating when youre on the fence about deciding to buy a game or not, a dev offers 10 promo codes (you dont get one) so you wait patiently to see what the 10 people think of the game yet nothing ! If the games good (or bad) at least tell us, like i say to me thats the whole point of promo codes. But often a dev lists 10 and they go in seconds with not one word of if the game is good or not. So the dev loses out, we lose out as we might not buy it, just a waste if people dont offer a praise/criticism
I hear you. Sure, it can be frustrating. But it's the devs decision, in the end. But take into account that quite some of these "promo code thieves" might show the game to their friends - and those friends buy the game after they've seen it. That's a win for the dev.
Yeah, I agree. Whenever I get a promo code, I try hard to not only give an itunes review and post comments on Toucharcade about the game or sometimes possible improvement. Asking people to pm for codes would at least promote this, rather than just seeing these promo giveaways as a tool just to get free apps and not buy any apps at all.
And sexy? Hey, you got an icade? And hdmi? Wow, I can't seem to find people like you. Which icade? Post a screenshot in the hdmi thread if you can.
Why is reddit's format so ugly? I wouldn't mind using it but man the format is so hard to read and the board doesn't look pretty. I thought when I first got into ios that was going to be the first board I would be active on, but couldn't stand the format. So ended up here on Toucharcade instead.
Yeah, I agree again. When promo codes are given out, I too wanna know how those people like the game. Vovin, you are probably going to call me elitest for saying this, but sometimes it would be nice if some users like ExactScience, Syntheticvoid, Ninjackid, etc or others would get a code so we could hear their comments on games. Developers give these codes alot of times to help spur sales. Getting feedback posts greatly helps for sales. But the current system just promotes people expecting all ios games to be free, and creating a begger syndrom at times from lurkers just keep begging for more free codes. Is this right?
I'm actually an avid redditor, so I don't mind posting there either. As for me, I am genuinely honored that people would even like to play my game. So I just hope that the promo codes go to people who will play. It would be nice if they told a friend or something, but as long as they find enjoyment in my offering, then I can rest easy.
The funny thing is, there's probably never more than 50 people actually viewing the price drops forum
