The first thing I did with RDR was turn off Auto Lock and change the horse controls to directional. Those two options set the wrong way would have killed the game for me.
I kinda think it's the other way around. The story missions are great, but the rest is just icing on the cake. Free roam is nothing without friends to form a posse with and just mess with other people. Shoot up some baddies? Part of the story missions. Become a good guy/bad guy? Irrelevant. Fun to see how people's reaction change when you walk up to them, but has no impact on the actual story and subsequent chain of events. Crimes are limited to killing someone or stealing a horse. Whorehouse? Erm, whatever you're expecting, it's not there. You should definitely do the Hunter/Survivalist/Treasure/Sharpshooter challenges along the campaign, though. It's easier to just stumble upon them instead of searching for them during the day. And is it me, or does Dead Eye make hunting a liiiitle too easy? Towards the end, the mission with the bear. No challenge at all.
Goddamn my Xbox just RROD for the millionth time just as I was about to start the Deathspank demo =( Slim owners, any negative feedback at all about the new console? Thinking of pre-ordering one very soon (like in a few hours soon), seeing as they launch in the UK... tomorrow. Maybe my Xbox knew it was about to become obsolete and killed itself edit: also I can't believe there are no bundles on offer for the new console. Was hoping to find a RDR bundle =P
Not any negatives for me about the console itself, unless you don't already have an HDMI cable or component cables. Then you get stuck with crap composite ones that they ship you. The new 'Box is a bit peppier when it comes to boot and game load times, controllers hook up significantly faster, waaaay quieter than the previous iterations, it pumps out a lot more heat than the old one (so as to not RROD)... But the disk drive can still be a little loud. Installing your games to the hard drive will remedy this. The only other complaint I have is that the D-Pad on the new controller that shipped with it is incredibly squeaky. Imagine that. Since yours RROD'ed, I highly suggest picking up the 360 S. Better or equal in every way from its predecessor(s).
Have you found any treasure yet? I haven't....is there a marker above it or something that shows that treasure is underground?
When you have the game highlighted on y our dashboard, there are different buttons you can press. Press the one that says "Game Options" I believe it's the 'Y' button. Then you can choose to play game disk, eject or Install to hard drive. Depends though on how big the game is. Usually anywhere from about 2g-7g in my experience.
I did the first couple of missions, but I stopped after I beat the campaign. There's no marker. It'll just tell you to press Y to dig it up once you're right over it. You rely solely on the maps, which I think is pretty cool.
Yeah you still have to have the disc in. Otherwise I'd be renting games, installing them and returning them to keep the game forever ahahahaha
For the reason I said... to make sure you own the game. This is why I don't bother installing, you need the disc anyway and load times are only slightly improved (some games actually suffer longer load times after being installed due to not being optimized to run off a hard drive). The only real benefits are a quieter system and less chance of your disc drive exploding into a shower of flames.
