SSX has become my new obsession. It's absolutely fantastic. Would like to see a real time head to head multiplayer feature though. Thats not to say the asynchronous feature is bad, I would just prefer the other. And you guys should really keep an eye out for Dragon's Dogma....thats gonna be amazing. It arrives in May and the demo comes out soon on XBL
Yeah, Dragon's Dogma looks pretty awesome. I'll probably get Dark Souls, Dragon Age II, or Witcher II before then. Lots of Westerns I need to play.
I like SSX, but I'm not sure I love it. If I was better at doing the tricks I'd probably be even more into it. It is good and I like it, don't get me wrong. But I find for me that it's a good game to do several runs and then turn it off and do something else. It would be better as a download as a result, IMHO.
You can still join Global Events at the same time as your friends and jump from the chopper together for some real-time action. I've been doing it a lot. The downside is you need to be communicating via voice to make sure you all jump together, and if someone messes up they're likely to just hit restart and then you won't be near them anymore. I think I must have spent about 4 hours a day playing this on average... it's like crack. The key to really enjoying it is the community though, I've been active on the Merqury City forums and chat room and I also run the PS3 side of their community events. It's so much more fun when you've got a large number of friends to chat and compete with. Every day brings a new revelation and a new challenge.
What exactly is so great about SSX? I saw every one talking about the game so much here so tried the demo and didn't like it one bit. Is it the demo or maybe it's just me?
This. SSX has been the best extreme sports arcade series since Tricky, back in 2001. Who wouldn't want to go flipping down a mountain at 170km/h?
hahah, I think this is the first time we've gotten along. I've loved SSX since the first one and Tricky was (and still is) my favorite in the series. When they did the whole Deadly Descents thing I was totally against it, and thankfully they adjusted their heads. TBH when I first played the demo I really didn't like it, but gave it a few more chances and as I got better I really started enjoying the game a lot. I haven't picked it up yet because I'm waiting on my EA contact to give it to me, and when I do I'm sure I will enjoy it.
Mass Effect 3 just gets better and better. Approaching 10 hours now. This is no doubt the best shooter I've ever played. The visuals are incredible. I love the fast-paced cover firefights. The storyline so far is pretty decent..it's getting better. There are a lot of races/characters and a huge backstory that I'm missing. The level designs are a little too linear though. Good thing there are so many side objectives to do. If a game is going to top Skyrim for me on the 360, it'll probably be ME3. We'll see though. Seems like I'm going to have to brace myself for the ending. I'm still a long ways off though. At the rate I'm playing, it'll probably take 30-40 hours or so to finish the game since I'm doing pretty much everything. The level of customization is pretty impressive as well. Having never played the first two games, I didn't know what to expect. The game so far gets at least a 4.5/5 from me so far though. I don't really like how someone dies in every single scene, but I guess that's war. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet. That should be a ton of fun once I finish the campaign. This is one series I know I'll come back to. Grabbing the first and second games when I can.
The one thing I really don't like about SSX are the courses where they put voluminous crevices/cliffs that if you fall down its game over. I know you can rewind, but if you're going for time, then rewinding is game over. I find those courses really frustrating. The courses where they didn't do that I like a *lot* more.
I don't specifically remember not getting along with anyone... I disagree a lot, but it's nothing personal Tricky was amazing at the time, but I can't go back to it now. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and I think it's something that's best left as a good memory. The only really annoying ones I find are the Alps tracks that are essentially just thin walls you have to race along the top of. Other than that, I enjoy the crevasses. I think the mountains needed a sense of danger and a reason to learn the tracks and progress your skills. One of the level designers said the reason they exist is because the dev team were playing the game for two years, and after you've mastered the easy stuff you're really glad there's still something left to tackle. On the bright side, even if you ignore the pit-heavy drops there are still just as many left as in previous games.
I played SSX Tricky for the first time only a few years ago (and it was my first SSX game), and overall I'd say I enjoyed it more than this SSX. I think it's aged pretty well. Sure the graphics aren't as good, but I think the gameplay is better. I also liked the crazy locations of that game more. Also, split screen. I really think it was a big mistake to drop that from this new game. I hope if there's a new one that they will bring back split screen and starting gate races.
Just put another three hours into ME3. This is definitely a game I'll have to replay. There are so many decisions you make that actually change the course of the game completely. In other words, your choices matter for once..don't think I've played another game where your decisions truly determine how the storyline of the game plays out.
Seriously. Down the road I see myself playing straight through the series whenever I get bored of the lackluster gaming scene (should one ever occur). Such an awesome series, despite all the outcries against ME3's ending (haven't completed it yet, so I can't say anything about it yet).
I think the thing people are complaining about with the ending is that all those choices get tossed out the window and everybody gets essentially the same ending. Mind, you I'm just going on what little I've read. I haven't played the series, but am considering it.
Well honestly, that's how the series has played since the beginning. I won't give spoilers, but certain events happened regardless of the choices you made. Now, certain things happen to Earth at the end of ME3 based on your choices, but the basic structure of the ending is the same. Just imagine for a moment the amount of space that would be required if Bioware made thirty different endings to the game. Just imagine the development that would be required, the nuances that would have to be considered for each ending. And realistically, not everyone would be happy that their ending wasn't as good as another person's, despite the fact that it has all arisen from their own choices. I think Bioware made the right decision to keep the endings to a minimum from a technical standpoint. I think of it all as the journey to get there rather than the destination. My gaming experience has been unique, and the decisions I've made and the characters I've met all interact with me in a unique way. I keep seeing things from my playing history come back to either haunt or help me, and that's awesome. If the last nine minutes of a hundred-hour journey are the same as someone else's last nine minutes, I'm okay with that. The previous 6,000+ minutes were all mine. Honestly, one of several endings is more than most games give you anyway.
Exactly. I liked the new SSX a lot, but it doesn't compare at all to how much fun games like Tricky were.
