yeah definitely. i think survivial is fun, but after you know you cant get any better wave it gets boring because theres no more challenge left.

I got MK and YES, it's worth it. Probably the best 2D fighter nowadays. Wonder if they'll do a follow up in 3D to re-write MK 4-7.

It's interesting how my taste for fighting games has changed over the years. 20 years ago I would have picked SF or KOF without a doubt. Now they just seem childish compared to MK or to a 3D fighter. The only one I have left to try is Virtua Fighter 5. Considering how much I like DOA4 and Tekken 6 I'm guessing VF will be one of my favourites too.

I haven't really seen it asked anywhere else, but what were everybody's Games of the Year?

    Mine in no particular order...

    1. Portal 2 (All around awesome)
    2. Skyward Sword (Not an Xbox game but still one of the most emotionally satisfying games I've ever played)
    3. Dead Space 2 (This game got me into the horror genre this year)
    4. Skyrim (Cliche for a GOTY list but it consumed 60 hours of my life)
    5. Batman: Arkham City (WAY too short in my opinion but what was there was awesome)

    Portal 2
    Skyrim
    Gears of War 3
    Super Mario 3D Land
    Mario Kart 7 3D
    Skyward Sword
    Pokemon Black Version

I'm guessing this isn't including iOS games.

So, I just played the Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning demo for Xbox, and felt like writing a preview buzz on Gamestop for it and then share it here. I was going to make a separate thread here but decided not to. Anyone else try it yet? Looks very promising.

I believe this game will be quite good if not fantastic for it takes a little bit of the most popular titles and combines it into a fantastic adventure. I'm considering purchasing it when it comes out but I also feel that waiting on some reviews would be the best idea.

Also, you get over an hour of gameplay from the demo so playing it doesn't hurt! :D

I haven't put too much thought into this, but I'll go with:

    1. Arkham City (Incredibly long for an action game! 30 hours to finish the story interspersed with side missions, then an extra 10 to finish the mode with challenge rooms and NG+ still to go)
    2. Dark Souls (It's Dark Souls. The sequel to Demon's Souls. No explanation needed)
    3. Skyrim (Pretty much neverending, value for money right here. Managed to improve on enough stuff from Oblivion to stand out in its own right)
    4. Saints Row The Third (Volition successfully brought plain fun back to the sandbox genre. Rockstar take notes)
    5. Sonic Generations (Finally brought back the quality from the early games. Sonic done right)

Worthy of mention: BF3, Mortal Kombat, Deus Ex: HR, EDF: IA, Portal 2 (Incredibly short :(), DiRT 3.

Portal 2 gets the nod from me. Awesome game. Awesome ending. Awesome coop.

I don't play enough games in their year of release to really say, though. Heck, I only started Oblivion a short time ago, LOL.

I know its a bit overused, but for me, Skryim definitely comes in at #1. Way too entertaining, put already 30 hours into it in the 2 months that I've had it, and would have put in more if not for schoolwork. incredible game.

    1. Dark Souls- play the game, push through, and you'll understand
    2. Skyrim- I'm still playing so obviously there's something to like, no?
    3. Dead space 2- hey what can I say, horror games get me every time and dead space is one of the best. No I can't say I played portal 2 through but it wouldnt beat dead space anyway.

So, I decided to resync NOVA 2 and MC3 today to try out the online multiplayer on them after having played Reach and MW3 pretty extensively in the past month or so since getting a 360.

    Lol.

    Lol.

    Lol.

Not sure why I stopped playing console games for 5 years, sigh.

I stopped playing console games for more than 15 years. From the mega-drive + mega CD to the xbox 360. That's a big gap. I remember I had a friend who played his PS1 non stop. I was more interested in going out, drinking and meeting people at the time. But now that I'm married and settled down I've fell in love with videogames again. :)

Holy shit dude, lol. Hm, I have still have time for going out (and other extracurriculars :p ;)) even though I'm a huge gamer now. But yeah, I didn't stop playing video games completely, just consoles. Played the PSP, 3DS, iPod Touch, and iPad for the past few years. Didn't get back into consoles until three-four months ago when I started using Steam. There aren't many good games for the Mac though! Then, I got a 360 about a month ago, and yeah, that's that..

For those of you who have played Demon Souls: Is Dark Souls just as hard? I really want to get into an Action RPG formula again, and I know these games would be rewarding.... but F*CK Demon Souls was so hard. I've played some pretty tough games in my day, and have mastered some of the harder bosses of my generation. But when I am relentlessly getting my ass kicked, over and over and over and over again on the first f*cking level (and not even by a boss unfortunately) I will generally get super frustrated. When I finally did beat the first level of Demon Souls, while I felt satisfied and happy I conquered it, the I-Want-To-Throw-My-Controller-At-The-Nearest-Cat Factor to Satisfaction Factor was just not worth it... My friend wants to let me borrow Dark Souls, but when I asked this same question he couldn't really answer (I am guessing he has never really played Demon Souls.) So I wanted to get a general consensus about it.

I guess it is good to note here that Demon Souls was the first and ONLY game I have ever quit because it was just "Too Hard".

It's hard to say really... some aspects are slightly easier, some are quite a bit harder. They're pretty equal really, but I find Dark Souls much more tense and intimidating due to the (somewhat) open world. When a game is split into levels you're kinda comforted by the knowledge you can just keep dying and trying again. The same is true with Dark Souls' open world, but somehow it feels like more of a requirement to stay alive because you really want to see that new area and find a safe place to take cover. If you keep dying... you just won't ever get there. It's excruciating being able to see the next bonfire (checkpoint) in the distance and not knowing how many traps and hidden monsters lie between it and your character.

The sense of acomplishment is also higher though, so it's all worthwhile. The feeling you get when you discover a huge shortcut back to an earlier part of the game is fantastic, you feel so safe and secure... for a while.

If you quit Demon's Souls though, you'll probably do the same on Dark Souls... the question is when. I only really started raging about 3/4 of the way through due to one incredibly cheap and annoying boss. Actually in my defense, it was TWO incredibly annoying bosses that you're forced to fight simultaneously, both of which have their own set of attacks leaving you with no real safe distance to observe from. I'm getting annoyed just thinking about it.

I'm intrigued by the game for sure, but I know I'd never finish it, probably not even close, so it's got to be dirt cheap. When it hits $20 I'm in.

This helps a lot, so I will probably avoid it.

I really really hate the fact that a game was too difficult and consequently made me quit. Well it didn't make me necessarily, I just couldn't stand the threshold of it's unforgiving nature it provided. Like I said, I was happy when I finally beat the first level, but I just couldn't handle that again, and god only knows what was in store for me in the NEXT level lol... I had fun when I was doing good, by the 8th or so time I died, I already had a strategy and knew exactly what was coming, what to do, when to strike, when to do this and that, and just moving forward usually granted me a new scheme to learn to progress. In a way, this reminded me of the good ol NES days of unforgiving games like Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, and Contra. Forcing you to learn enemy patterns, obsitcle patterns and the like. I enjoyed that, that's not the problem, the problem was that Demon Souls took it to a whole 'nother level for me. lol... It might even be that games these days have essentially "Pussified" me, and I just don't have the patience I once had when I was playing these games when I was 6 years old. Whatever the cause, Demon Souls depresses me. I still have the game... I see it once in a while laughing at me saying "I win.". :(

I think you should give it a go. For me I'm not one to play difficult games at all, and at one point(the beginning) I thought id have to take it back. But I gave it more of a chance and became really good at the game mastering most of the combat and enjoying myself a lot. I was sad when it ended and the 57 hours it took me to beat was some of the best time I've spent. There can be really hard times, but you'll push through after an hour or so(we are here to help) so give it a go and maybe you'll change your mind.

Btw, when do console releases start picking up again? Spring? There haven't been any decent releases in over two months.
