I can appreciate that, but a story needs to stand up on its own. Consider if, say, Spoiler in a James Bond movie, some character from some other movie in the series shows up, then dies moments later. It's pretty meaningless for the movie in question. I can totally appreciate that people might have an emotional attachment to a character from a past movie, but that scene doesn't add anything to the current one other then a cheap bit of manipulative emotion. But I suppose I shouldn't be judging it like a movie. I wish that I could judge the stories in games like those in movies, though.
Anyway, my impressions of the Battlefield 3 beta is that it's buggier than hell... you can't go prone and crawl around without falling through the map. Other than the bugs, the game plays and feels great. But those damn bugs... Oh really? I would think it would be the other way around considering ID made RAGE... ID being the creator of fps games and all...
Definitely Dark Souls, Rage is way too easy and over before you know it. Wouldn't that defeat the point? If they sent out an ancient build they'd be getting back thousands of useless reports for bugs that had already been fixed.
Correct, DICE can't privately invite millions of people to test their servers, so that's what the open beta's for. Don't go thinking that just because it's so close to release that the beta represents the final build. So yeah, DICE still has time left to fix bugs/glitches and the server issues.
Well it must be near-to-final since they've already announced a list of new fixes in response to a lot of the bugs people have been talking about. This really should've happened earlier though. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather have the fixes on the disc than via update, even a day-one patch just seems kinda cheap and lazy to me.
Uum... are you sure? This is assuming they need a month to print the games and then a while to ship them out to stores and overall pre-release stuff. So let's say 4 weeks at least. The game comes out at basically the end of the month. Do you HONESTLY except them to fix all the bugs in a few days? There will more than likely be a few patches right after release. On the other hand, server issues CAN be fixed, but not the falling through the map stuff, that's game bugs
Rage has been said to be like 20 hours long... and if it's too easy, crank up the difficulty. Honestly, I don't know if I have the will power to play through Dark Souls. So far Rage looks pretty fun though, I might get it once it goes cheaper. The Crysis single-player has been released on XBLA and PSN for $20 (or the equivalent amount of points) by the way. Just letting you all know.
I've been looking at a couple of videos of Dark Souls and I must say I'm intrigued. Combat looks like fun but like Donovan, I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it. Never thought I'd be buying a game guide but this looks like a game to get one for. I think I'll pass on RAGE, heard it's >15 hours and story is forgettable. Multiplayer does look like fun but looks more like Twisted Metal than an FPS multiplayer.
20 hours is definitely pushing it for Rage, I think it was Joystiq who reported 9 hours and 15 minutes for their first run, with other reviews ranging from the 8-12 hour mark. Personally, I'm going with the time it took my friend to finish, as I was talking to him the entire day on IM. So around 10 hours 20 minutes. I'm also hearing a lot of talk about Normal difficulty being too easy and people recommending others start on Hard. That's not a terribly good sign. Is anybody going to remember an easy 10 hour game in 3 months time? We've got Skyrim, Batman and BF3 on the way, I think Rage will be forgotten just like Dead Island already is. That got overhyped as well. Anyway... just got my copy of Dark Souls. That's 60+ hours of quality gaming sorted for me
Tell us how it goes! Really interested in getting a copy if impressions are good! There's still plenty more games coming out, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3 and even Modern Warfare 3.
You say that as though 20 is really impressive now for a game thats all open world and everything. Id expect a game like that to be much longer.
So my original just RROD'd for the second time and I said screw it and grabbed the GoW 3 limited edition console. The new improvements are actually kind of nice, particularly the built-in wireless so I don't have to use my long ass cable from my router to play some multiplayer. Not a big Gears fan actually but the game is quite fun and not to mention gory. Dark souls guide from Amazon comes tomorrow so I can finally start playing it again with some confidence. Also waiting for my copy of Batman Arkham City and Forza 4 to ship, can't wait to test the latter with the Microsoft Speed wheel haha.
For those not Kinect-phobic, and who have Kinect Sports Season 2, there is going to be free DLC every month through Spring 2012, starting today! First set of DLC is out, adding a new mini-game for each sport: http://www.shacknews.com/article/70976/kinect-sports-season-2-gets-free-challenge-pack-1 I queued it up.
Hey guys I know I sound like an EPIC noob, but here goes nothing. I bought an Xbox 360 amd is coming Tuesday (amazon takees forever man!) and I am going to buy MW3 my first cod game ever. Can some one plz explain the killstreak thing for me? Like ehat button you have to hit etc. Also what is the best headset that is btwn $25-$80? Thanks in advance.
Killstreaks happen in COD MW3 in 3 ways. You have your Assault strike package, Support Strike package, and then specialist. The Assault Strike Package works like in previous Call of Duty games; when you die, your killstreak ends. The Support Strike Package is the opposite, as it allows you to die without having your killstreak reset. The Specialist Strike Package doesn't have any killstreak rewards, but it allows you to choose 3 additional perks for your class. You use the dpad to call in your killstreak rewards, usually by pressing right on the dpad. Headset: For me I went with the Turtle beach x12 which is really nice for 65$ USD. There are other great ones out there but I highly recommend the x12s.
