The playstation version isn't due out until September or something like that. I haven't read all the reviews. Really, not all of any, just some of many. Kinect is something some may not be able to appreciate and that's fine, but I'm in the camp that likes it and finds it pretty darned cool. It's not perfect, but still pretty awesome. The controls work well in the better games, but there is lag. However, at least according to Microsoft, devs have the tools in hand to greatly reduce lag. Plus updates are coming to improve accuracy and add things like finger and face tracking. Maybe those are already in place and Eden takes advantage of them? EDIT: I just found out that Child of Eden is $39.99 at toysrus.com and apparently it's the same price in-store, though the price on the shelf may say $49.99! I'm going to check it out for sure. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11683186&prodFindSrc=search Or you can buy online and get free shipping.
I just put in an order at TRU with in-store pickup for Child of Eden @ $39.99+tax. It will be a Fathers Day gift for me. Yeah! I'll post my impressions once I've had a good chance to try it out. Also, allegedly Redboxes are rolling out nationwide game rentals, but so far they aren't showing up as being at my local Redbox. They will supposedly have Dirt 3 once they do, so I'll give that a rental, at least, presuming video games really do show up locally. Price is $2 per day.
I got my copy of Child of Eden at Fathers Day yesterday. I only had time, with all we were doing, to play one level (well, play it twice - I failed the first time!) but it is pretty great so far. The control with Kinect is really good. It's certainly far more responsive and accurate then any past Kinect game. I also like that they sped up the menus by having the confirmation (circle filling) happen much faster, which perhaps is also because of the better accuracy. I didn't try it with the controller yet, but I really can't believe that would be more accurate. Then again, I'm not very good at FPS with a controller, so maybe it's just me. In any case playing it with Kinect is very cool. Aiming and then pushing forward to the beat, to shoot, seems so perfect. You raise both hands to use Euphoria. I will try it with controller too, though, at some point, for one because when I play upstairs, we don't have a Kinect up there, nor room for it. I'll probably play it through with Kinect, then play it through with controller. One thing you can do, as I understand it, but which I didn't try yet, is to combine Kinect with up to 4 controllers, using the controllers for vibration. You'd probably need cargo pants (which I don't have) to use all 4, but I have some baggy-ish shorts that I could put two controllers in. I'm going to give that a shot tonight. In the settings you can turn vibration on for up to 4 controllers, and I believe it pulses them individually to the beat, but don't quote me on it yet, as I didn't try it. I seem to recall a while ago that they had a belt, which has to be pretty goofy looking, that would hold 4 controllers, but I doubt that was ever a real product. That would be cool if it were, though, even though goofy. Probably you could jerry-rig something up and get the same effect.
Have you played Rez? Is it any more involving than that game? Rez got a load of good reviews but in the end it was really just a repetitive shooting game with a musical background.
No, I've never played Rez. I like it so far, but as I said, I'm only one level in. However, I've seen people say that, when played with a controller, this is essentially just an HD version of Rez. I can't vouch for that since I haven't even seen a video of Rez! Maybe it won't be your cup of tea. This isn't a 2D shooter, but it is a similar concept to those sorts of high score games, albeit with a pulsing beat and psychedelic visuals. The key to high scores is targeting a full set of 8 enemies and pushing forward (shooting) on the beat to increase your multiplier and then not letting it drop. Or something like that - I briefly looked at what it said the rules were here, but didn't memorize. There was a way to maintain your multiplier even when not fully targeting 8 enemies, but I forget what it said offhand. After a play through I'll go back to that and try to get a good score.
Ah yeah, sounds pretty similar. Rez multipliers were made by targeting a bunch of enemies too. I might pick it up after reading more about it.
Darn. Pulled a muscle in my upper back yesterday at work. Decided I probably shouldn't then play Child of Eden, at least not with Kinect. And now we are going on vacation (yeah!), so I won't get back to it until next week. At least I found that the Redboxes near us do now have video games. Unfortunately all they have is stuff I'm not interested in, at least for now. No copies of Dirt 3 anywhere within 50 miles. Boo.
Xbox Live Deal Of The Week The following games are on sale: Hard Corps Uprising- 600 MS Points (Down from 1200) Zeno Clash UE- 600 MS Points (Down From 1200) X-Men- 400 MS Points (Down from 800) Turtles in time RS- 400 MS Points (Down from 800)* Comic Jumper- 400 MS Points (Down from 800) Laura Croft Guardian of light- 600 MS Points (Down from 1200) Does anyone have an extra 400 MS Points they can spare ? *Note: this game is supposed to get delisted from the XBL Marketplace on June 30th so act fast!
I'm probably going to buy Hard Corps Uprising while on sale. If you don't already have Lara Croft, I highly recommend picking that up while on sale. It isn't that long, but it's a lot of fun. Don't bother with the DLC, though - totally not worth it. The one I have is ridiculously short and, unlike the main game, not really much fun. Note that it isn't like normal Lara Croft games, which to me was a win. I understand that's it's also fun coop, but I've never had the opportunity to try it that way, so can't vouch for it.
I ended up buying Hard Corps and Turtles in Time ReShelled. TMNT RS isnt as bad as I remembered and it's actually much better if you're playing it with a fightstick but it makes the bosses damn near impossible to defeat.
Nope. Gone from PSN I believe. And I think TMNT will be gone after this sale. I think I'll pick up Zeno Clash and maybe LAra Croft if I can get my friend to buy it too
I guess it depends on if you're into that sort of game. I for one love Q Entertainment and commend their efforts since they've been making very musically involved / slightly off kilter games for a while now. I loved Rez and played the hell out of it and I've been doing the same for Child of Eden. I'm also a big fan of Lumines. I bought Child of Eden for $50 and play it with the controller. I can't recommend buying it for that price unless you have a Kinect and want an actual game to play on it and not Wave Your Hands Heaven 3 or whatever. I would suggest waiting until it's $30 since that's a perfect price for the amount of gameplay you'd get out of it.
I tried the Hard Corps demo and liked it, but I'm a tad worried it's going to get too frustratingly difficult later. I need to decide by end of Monday....
A friend of mine purchased the game, it's not the greatest, but I guess it's worth playing if you get bored.
Has anyone checked out the Summer of Arcade titles? If the games deliver what they're promising, the line-up looks solid. If I had a Kinect, I'd be all over Fruit Ninja. There's Bastion, From Dust, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Fruit Ninja Kinect, and Toy Soldier: Cold War. List of Titles.
Ehh, it's a decent line up, nowhere near the last three years though. 2008 Geometry Wars 2 Braid Bionic Commando Galaga Legions Castle Crashers 2009 Marvel vs Capcom 2 Trials HD Splosion Man TMMT Shadow Complex 2010 Limbo Hydro Thunder Lara Croft Castlevania Monday Night Combat In 08 and 09 there was only 1 game that wasn't great, in '10 there were two I'd say. This year I'm only probably going to get Bastion and Toy Soldiers, and ITSP if it is good. From Dust looks like one of those boring games that focuses on art only and not gameplay. Fruit Ninja isn't something that I would want at all, and I even have a Kinect.
I tend to wait on purchasing XBLA games - they eventually go on sale, I have lots to play at the moment already & just purchased Torchlight today for 800 points. Stacking is also 600 points on the Deals of the Week.
