Well I'm sad now. GoW3 Skyrim Rage All come out at around the same time. No way I can buy all of them
Summer job. There ya go. I was thinking of getting Dirt 3, liked the first 2 but didn't play them much, but I've always thought they were good racing games. Not too realistic or arcadey. Maybe I can convince my dad to pick it up so I'm not the one spending 60 bucks. He loves racing games.
I thought Dirt 3 was published by THQ. I was somewhat right I guess, THQ is the distributor. I think I can get this game for free then. Love having connections.
So don't. They'll get price drops before long, so buy them and play them one at a time and you'll save money.
I always thought Dirt 2 was good as well. Amazing graphics, great handling, decent number of tracks... but somehow I just didn't get into it. For whatever reason it's just so much easier to invest time into 3.
One review on amazon says the rally races in Dirt 3 are all short. Is that true? Not sure if that's good or bad, just wondering if it's right. Also a bit dismayed that there is apparently a judging aspect to the game, with regard to drifting. Is that true too? I hate racing games that put stuff in that has nothing at all to do with racing, especially if you have to do it to proceed. Project Gotham Racing whatever number comes to mind. I hated that in that game and as a result never got very far in it. Hopefully that's just limited to achievements and you aren't required to "style" to proceed.
The rally tracks are fairly short, probably between 2-3 minutes though obviously they're all point-to-point so there's no lap repetition. That said, if you take a look at actual rally results you'll notice that's fairly standard in the sport. There's a whole gymkhana mode in the game as shown here: ...but it's fairly easy to rush through these challenges if you don't like them. You're awarded either bronze, silver, gold or platinum medals and quite honestly, absolutely anyone could get bronze within a couple of attempts then move on. Events are unlocked via a points system so there's a chance you'll have enough points from other events to skip these entirely. List of single player modes as follows: Rally - point-to-point race for best time. Rallycross - lap-based racing against 7 AI opponents. Land Rush - lap-based racing with either trucks or buggies, 7 AI opponents. Trailblazer - point-to-point race for best time with specialized high speed cars. Head 2 Head - single lap race against a single AI. Gymkhana - a variety of objectives ranging from drift attacks, stunt playgrounds and smash attacks (hit all of the cardboard cutouts). A much larger portion of DiRT 3 is focused on point-to-point races than in the previous games though. It was probably the most common request from fans and they got it. Less locations than DiRT 2, but double the number of tracks... also two new locations (Monte Carlo and Shibuya) and two car packs will be available as DLC later.
Hey. I have 600 MS Points to blow. Any good XBLA Game Reccomendations? I was thinking about getting Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.
I write for a site and get copies of games published by Microsoft Game Studios for free (So the Gears/Forza/Halo/Fable series) and Midian, you have convinced me to get Dirt 3 by saying that most races are short p2p events. The one thing I hate about Forza 3 is the grinding effect from racing around a track for 20-30 minutes, only to do exactly the same thing straight afterwards. I know its a simulation, but that lacks the thrill for me to do more than 1 or 2 races in a sitting. Something like NFS: Hot Pursuit sucked me in with short, action packed races so Dirt 3 should do the same. Lastly, what does everyone expect to come out of Microsoft's Conference at E3?
A big part of the conference is going to be about Kinect, and probably Kinect as applied to games that use the controller too. Or a racing wheel. Forza 4 and it's head tracking is a given. Plus Kinect-only games. Probably lots of announcements and demos also of upcoming Kinect-only games. An across the board price drop, probably $50 less per model, and possibly now including a bundled game, to match the new Wii price of $150 and that being bundled with Mario Kart. So I think Microsoft will bundle a game too. I know some here hate Kinect, but I like it, though also recognize it's shortcomings, hopefully which will also be addressed at E3 with news on less lag, better tracking, etc, all of which were said to be coming. So, yeah, Kinect o' mania. But surely also with news about Kinect-free games too, and lots of emphasis on how Microsoft isn't abandoning core gamers.
Long and potentially boring post ahead. I'm sitting here watching my girlfriend play LEGO PotC so I needed something to keep occupied with. I've had a rather pleasant surprise this week, two in fact. I'd been watching videos for Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Mortal Kombat 9 and couldn't decide which to buy... so I got both. It turns out they're both equally as fantastic as one another. I'm properly cemented in the casual group when it comes to fighting games so, big name franchises excepted, they don't usually catch my interest. SFIV did though and I bought that, only to get utterly destroyed by the AI on easy difficulty... I vowed never to buy a fighter ever again. I think the mistake there was due to nostalgia; I've got some fond memories of playing (and sucking at) SSFII Turbo as a kid, so I assumed I'd enjoy sucking at IV as well, when in reality it was just frustrating. I honestly can't do anything right in that game. Nevertheless, MvC3 just looked too pretty to resist (seriously, check these out: every single one wallpaper-worthy) and once again I was plagued with youthful memories of watching other kids play MvC2 in arcades. I loved how freakin' crazy it looked and how I had no idea what was happening on screen, but at the same time knowing it was all very clever and the guys playing it knew exactly what they were doing. So I shoved the disc in, watched the awesome opening cinematic and dove into the training mode accompanied by shoryuken.com's basic tutorial videos. Somehow it all made sense instantly which was unexpected to say the least. I mean, each individual game mechanic makes perfect sense, though obviously the confusion comes with merging them all together in unique and varied fashions. Nevertheless, a good start. MvC3 is definitely casual friendly, even with the "simple" control option turned off. I handed the controller to my girlfriend while I attended to my Macbook and she shot through Arcade mode on easy difficulty with relatively few problems. The fact I'm at least able to complete the offline portion of the game already makes this infinitely more entertaining than SFIV, which I struggled to finish on any difficulty. Also, being thrashed by a friend in local multiplayer is far, far less frustrating than being thrashed by some random asshole in a ranked match. That's more or less where my MvC3 opinions end, because I was interrupted the next day by Mortal Kombat's arrival. I plan to go back to MvC3 fairly soon though because I'm ecstatic about the fact I can actually enjoy a fighting game again after so many years. AND IT'S SO DAMN GOOD LOOKING! So, onto MK9! Like MvC3, the developers of MK9 have stated on several occasions that they intended to make the game casual-friendly. You didn't have to be a pro gamer to enjoy the original MK trilogy back on arcade/SNES/Genesis because the majority of people's amusement came from the incredible gore on display. As long as there was blood, people were entertained. I recall being deeply invested in MK3's multiplayer despite not having a clue how to pull off a fatality (or any other moves for that matter). Random button mashes was all it took for the robot to occasionally shoot rockets and that kept me happy enough. MK9 is more or less the same story. This time I know how to pull off both fatalities and special moves (it helps that a lot of the characters share similar inputs, as with MvC3) and somehow the gameplay seems to have been lowered slightly to my level, yet also manages to keep the hardcore gamers smiling (I know because I've asked). Retelling the story was a great move and everything about MK9 manages to do the original trilogy justice... it's almost the same game, just bigger, prettier and slightly more violent. I'm happily shooting my way through Story mode and doing a fairly decent job climbing the challenge tower at the same time (though I don't expect to reach the top), and frequently find myself doing something rather impressive during a fight, even if by accident. Now that's good game design. In both MvC3 and MK9, the shift towards casual-friendly gameplay not only changes the games themselves, but also the casual gamers. I'm performing fairly well in both games not just because they've been altered to suit my play style, but also because the alterations have allowed me to dig further into the gameplay and actually improve. It feels as though if I keep playing at this rate I may eventually transcend the level of "casual" and enter, uh... whatever comes next. Semi-pro? So, the conslusion to this random and possibly boring post is this: Marvel vs Capcom 3 is amazing. Mortal Kombat 9 is amazing. You don't need to be good at fighting games to come to these conclusions, so I'd happily recommend them to anyone, especially those with friends to play local multiplayer with. Go buy 'em both right now. P.S. Posting this in here because it's the more popular topic, but I bought both of these on PS3 (I mean seriously, the 360's d-pad? I wasn't gonna take a risk on an arcade stick as well )
I made the mistake of buying SSFIV after having fun with it on my iPhone. On the iPhone I can actually play the game. On my 360 it's a joke. I even have an arcade stick. It doesn't really help. The gymanstics you have to pull off to do anything more then a basic punch/kick are irritating. I know you can get use to it, but I don't think I have the patience for it. Maybe I'll pick up MvC3. I'm less interested in MK because of the gore. The gore doesn't do anything for me and it would just mean I couldn't play it when my kids were around, so it's a net loss. Having said that, I wish MvC3 had a story mode like MK, because I'd mostly be interested in playing offline vs. AI, at least until (and if) I ever got actually good at it, which to be honest, is pretty unlikely.
Naturally we're going to get more info on Gears 3, perhaps with Kinect integration. We'll see how that works. Probably some MW3 presentation since Activision and Microsoft are still chummy I think. Forza 4. Maybe whatever 343i's been working on for the past forever. And perhaps a bit of a teaser for the next console.
MvC3 is the most friendly towards button mashers, but there's still enough depth to improve if you want to. It's also the easiest of the two to create a combo with, almost everything leads into everything else. Shame you're not into MK's gore though It's definitely more of a guys-getting-together-drinking-beers-and-going-ohhh!-at-violence experience than most fighters. Johnny Cage's x-ray move is literally just a punch in the balls.
I dunno about you guys, but MS is really gonna have to come in guns blazing if they hope to stand a chance against Sony's NGP hypefest and Nintendo's Project Cafe/3DS Round 2 conferences. They better have a lot of new stuff to show off, considering I'm more hyped about the other conferences right now. Sony's gonna blow the lid off the NGP and Nintendo's console is gonna have the "Ooh.. Shiny and new..." effect to propel it forward. All that, and buying a 3DS is finally gonna pay off. Bliss. That said I'm still looking forward to Halo HD. I was just a wee one when it first came out in '01 (I've played it since and loved it), so it'll be cool to see this re-imagining of it.
The rumours I have seen suggest a new title called Gears of War Exile (Kinect title?) and a Halo: CE HD remake. While a new console is rumoured, I seriously doubt they will announce anything when they said Kinect will extend the current life of this gen by another 5 years. With Sony bringing out some massive first party titles, I reckon that Microsoft will have to show that it's been flaunting the cash securing some of its own. The Witcher 2 is coming out on the 360, but we need some more new IPs! Nintendo will win E3 again IMO. Sony's success will depend on the NGP (Rumoured lower specs or insanely high price for a handheld device) which will make or break their conference. Microsoft has nothing that we know of that and will slot in 3rd unless the NGP is a major flop.
