I'm really just comparing it in the way it's primarily multiplayer based with different classes. I do consider Brink's art style to be somewhat cartoon-like though, not quite as much as TF2 but it's going for that friendly, brightly coloured environment look, probably closer to Borderlands in that respect.
I played a bit at my friend's house. It's actually quite entertaining for a short period of time, much more than the reviews make it out to be. Certainly nto worth shelling out cash for though, as any extended period playtime with this would quickly get tedious
What's the verdict on L.A. Noire for anyone who has it? I've been reading and reading about it and it sounds intriguing, but then I'll read someone say something that is a complete turnoff. The latest thing I saw someone say was that it seemed not to matter what they did, they always solved the case regardless. Is that true?
I think behind all the hype, it's not really the "next step" for games or Rockstar. Granted it's not supposed to be like GTA, but the idea of less freedom and less replay value doesn't speak to me at all. I think you have to be really invested in the theme to get much out of it.
I rented the 360 version and I think it is okay but I am not blown away. The game does seem to hold your hand and it does seem pretty hard to fail but I am still early in the game. The tech they have for the facial animations is pretty amazing though.
The gamespot review did mention there's a lot of handholding and linear in the early part of the game but gets fun after that. Probably going to pick my copy up tomorrow. Oh and to anyone that has it, does it only have 1 save slot/profile to play on?
Yeah. Only one file per profile. But you can replay any case from the main menu to try to get higher ratings or to explore different paths to take. Onto my impressions: When I first started playing I got frustrated because I would mess up when interviewing people, so I'd restart the case. I really had to learn to throw away my regular video game ideals to start realizing that in order to succeed in the interview section on the game, you really had to forget that you were playing a game and look at each interaction as if it were a talk with a real person. That's incredible to me. Sure, the gunplay is lacking, and some repetition in the way you go about things (get assignment, go to crime scene, find evidence, interview people, chase leads, realize red herring, chase other leads, solve case, rinse and repeat), but this really is anything but GTA. The city isn't your playground, it's simply the setting where everything takes place. You really have to just get into the game to like it. So yes, the first few hours drag, but after that you get tons of epic chases (on foot and in cars) and "a-ha!" moments that are really satisfying. Overall the game isn't for everyone, but if you like adventure games and don't go into it expecting GTA then you'll find it quite enjoyable.
If LA Noire is installed, is disk switching still needed? I love the everything that I've seen, but I want to know before I set down 60 on it.
Decided I'm gonna pass on L.A. Noire, at least until it goes down in price or I get rich. The next game I'm looking forward to is Dirt 3, gonna get my reaction speed testin' on
Yeah L.A. Noire was definitely worth it to me. It has flaws that really don't impact the core gameplay (which happens to be damn near perfect), and the realism is absolutely insane. Yeah you can free roam, but the amount of stuff you can do is so limited that it doesn't really motivate you to do so, other than run across side missions. Overall the game is pretty damn great, but it definitely won't appeal to everyone.
Thanks for the impressions. I like the concept of L.A. Noire a lot, so I think I'll pick it up at some point, but I'll wait for a price drop.
And here is why: "Undoubtedly one of the finest games on the market - not just racing games, but video games in general" 9/10 http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/dirt-3/review/dirt-3-super-review/a-20110517164135413067/g-20100803111331782068 And one from Eurogamer: "With its off-road events celebrating the series’ past and Gymkhana presenting a potentially bright new future, it’s another great racing game from an outfit that’s proving itself to be a master of its craft" 9/10 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-20-dirt-3-review
Are you freaking kidding me. This isn't a beggar thread. Go pay $15 and get the maps yourself. No one here is gonna just give them away, let alone to some random person on the internet who just wants to mooch off others. Sad, really sad. On a totally different note, who's excited for Rage?
Been playing LA Noire constantly only one thing gonna drag me away and thats Dirt 3 arriving on Tuesday
