Always check Eurogamer mate. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-04-kinect-reviewed-review IGN have one up too... http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1132215p1.html Let me know what you make of 'em.
Well the Eurogamer review wasn't exactly glowing. With phrases such as "If you don't have the space, don't get Kinect", "lacks precision", "slow, wobbly and frustrating" and words like "compromise". Considering the best rated game there is a dancing game that wouldn't be worth jack if it weren't for the fact it has a motion sensing gimmick I've gotta say it seems like my predictions are coming true. Reading the IGN one now... my eyes are drawn to "...can be affected by a number of different variables, including multiplayer scenarios, environmental elements, and, most notably, input delay". I totally called it. "...Kinect wasn't built for 1-to-1 motion tracking, and although there are some apparent issues for hardcore gamers and tech enthusiasts..." This must be making me look like such a fanboy, but that's not really the case. I just want to play great games, so if Kinect turned out to be the technological breakthrough MS wished it was I'd be all over it like a rash. Unfortunately it seems it just isn't, so personally I'm gonna say Move wins this fight. Obviously the fact that Move seems to be better technologically means nothing to the casuals that are gonna end up buying Kinect, so when it comes to sales MS still stands a great chance... of doing a Wii and selling shit to children.
IGN's video review also stated the lag in the games. It really isn't worth your $150 unless you HAVE to have Kinectimals
Agreed mate, I was going to buy it and I won't be buying it unless I decide to buy the bundle with the new designed console (cause I want to upgrade my crappy one). But I have to show you one last review, totally glowing... Tell me what you think of this. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=273523
It sounds better... but I get the feeling he's had to put himself into that mode where you pretend you're the target audience and really you're not. Like me when I talk about Wii Sports: "Yeah it's awesome, and when I grow up I'm gonna buy a PS3". Either way he admits the games aren't much to sing about right now, and they're really what it's all about so I'm still not excited.
Completely agree Johnny. Not interested in splashing £130 on something I won't use. Regarding Black Ops, this just seals the deal for me buying it (It looks like I've been charged the pre-order price, so it must be processing). http://www.ablegamers.com/xbox-360-news/black-ops-bots-add-more-botty.html Are you getting it Johnny?
Probably! I'm not really excited enough to pre-order, but I'll see it on the shelf and know it's a decent game then I just won't be able to resist.
Well, different John here, but I'll be getting it day 1, whether I have an Xbox or not. I freaking need this game. NEED. I'll sit there and stare at the case until I get my Xbox back if I have to... I'll get this game if it kills me. I'm hoping that day my friends and I can hit up the local pizza place and play some Black Ops, or I can go to a friend's house that weekend and play it there... As long as I have my copy and I can play it, I'm set. So yeah, once I get my Xbox back, there's only 2, maybe 3 or 4 games that I'll be playing: Dead Rising 2, Black Ops, and maybe Condemned and Borderlands. Everything else takes a backseat unless my friends desparately want me to play Left 4 Dead or something. And dude, why are you getting it on PS3? I have an Xbox so we can get some games going once I get mine back, unless you get the PS3 version.
Dead Space 2 is very intriguing. I tried the demo of the first one and came away impressed. I don't really like to be scared though, although what really freaks me out are jump scares. Anyone who played the first one and can give me some thoughts?
The first one, needless to say, scared the living shit out of me. Very suspensful and a great story and an even better creepy ass atmosphere. The upgrade system and everything made it a must have survival horror, and frankly should make Resident Evil start looking to it for some tips, as that series it getting a little to action-ie and not enough scary. It takes a lot to scare me and back in the day the first RE games game me some jumps. But Dead Space really raised that bar for me. I have no doubt in my mind that 2 will be just as awesome. Plus, running and gunning is awesome instead of the stand still to shoot thing.
I haven't played the full version of Dead Space yet (I was going to, but then i got Dead Rising 2 and then my Xbox RROD'd on me), but it looks insane. I've been dying to, but for the couple of reasons listed above, I can't. But I will agree 100% on the Resident Evil part. Resident Evil 5 wasn't even what I'd consider a Resident Evil game to be honest. It was more of a co-op shooter based around the Resident Evil 4 engine, rather than a real RE game. RE was all about going it alone, trying to survive what seemed like near impossible odds with very little ammo, and relatively weak guns (until later in the games when you get some pretty entertaining weaponry, like a Gatling Gun). Resident Evil 5 just turned into a "shoot everything in sight" kinda game, with all the horror and gore of Resident Evil 4 removed. It's a shame too, since all of the best games were before 4. Sure, 4 was an incredible game, but it just didn't feel like it was Resident Evil to me. The real RE games stopped at Code: Veronica X, wich aside from the REmake was the best of the series. Evidently they're making a Resident Evil Portable for the PSP if it wasn't cancelled, as well as a new one for the 3DS. Let's just hope they don't turn into more of that.
This is my favourite thing you've ever said. So true. The 3DS one controls much like RE4 and 5 but judging by the videos the enemies at least look like regular old zombies again.
I agree 100% on the resident evil thing man. Code Veronica was my favourite one in the series. The atmosphere was downright scary as shit. And yeah resident evil 5 I ended the game with practically MAX Ammo for the weapons I had. That should almost never happen. LOL
Dead Space was insanely fun but I got so stressed out from playing it that I couldn't beat the game. I played DS 2 at E3 and it is more of the same, but thats a good thing. The stupid thing about that combat training mode is that you have to be online to use it, even though you are only playing bots.
I'm not so sure I want more of the same. I enjoyed the first game through to the end but it did take a few liberties with it's repetition, whole sections of ship were repeated. Yeah that's ridiculous, and they haven't confirmed if you need gold or not last I checked. If you do there are gonna be some serious complaints. Not from me though, I'm on PS3.
@Somerandomdude... I'll start calling you John from now pal. I honestly need to get myself the new 360. I rarely use my current one as it has 4GB free and I have no idea where the Hard Drive is. When I get the new model, I'll be sure to fire up a few games of something with you. You must try Dead Space, it's a pretty fantastic experience. Really do it. @Rocket and Johnny. I'm ok with having to be online to do combat training, I'm often connected anyway as I have a Ethernet cable in the PS3 all the time. Sucks ass if you need to have Gold XBL account to play though.
Personally I'm fine with only being online (have one of those dongle things) but I think that for those who don't, it sucks. Also if I go on a long road trip or am going to visit my family in NY, I like bringing along my Xbox in case I ever get bored, and you can't play the Combat Training mode then, can you. I've been looking up a lot of stuff about BO lately, and it looks pretty good. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow. Anyone seen the new Dead Ops mode too?
Engadget gave a pretty comprehensive review on Kinect. Said it has some growing up to do, which was expected. I suppose that the dancing game and the Ubisoft exercise game are worthy titles, as the motion tracking provides for more comprehensive analysis than, say, a balance board, but at this point I don't see how much worth Kinect would be to me or those with similar tastes.
