Welcome to the club! The new partner system is a dramatic change from the original, but it ultimately is a change for the better given the difference in hardware. Everything else seems intact. If you still can't get enough of TWEWY, be sure to buy the new Solo Remix album when it's released.
The game looks great, but the lack of universal compatibility and iCloud support sucks. Guess I'll wait and buy it for my 3DS XL one of these days!
I'm conflicted... I have the opportunity of acquiring either the DS or the iOS version. I tried the game for a few hours when it was released (friend's DS) and I liked it very much. Now a new version comes along with supposedly new content but a different battle system. I don't know which version to play to be honest. Is the new content that much better? Or is the new combat system that worse? From people's feedback it seems not to be that bad, but I'm unsure. Decisions, decisions... Oh, and I'm happy about this port btw. But then again, I did not go through all the countdown motions.
I still prefer the DS version. If you're able to find it at a reasonable price, go for that. Otherwise, get the iOS version. You won't be missing out on any of the story or style either way. Edit: For those wondering about what the Twitter integration is like, I present you with some awesome screenshots.
The feedback I've had over the last day in this thread has persuaded me to put money down for the iPad version. What the hell - it looks quality, it feels like it's going to be great, and a new soundtrack - plus more content. It's been a couple of years since I've played through on the DS. I could always trade my DS one or pop it on eBay
Does anyone know when this is coming out inAmerica? Cuz I cant find it when I search with my itouch. And what's TWEWY?
It's already out but you won't find with your iPod touch since it's not compatible with the game Edit: TWEWY stands for the name of the game ( The World Ends With You )
Sadly It's for iPad 2, New iPad, iPhone 4 and 4S only. Square Enix locked out non compatible devices so you won't be able to see the game on the app store from your device
But I have an itouch 4S! But it has to be an iPhone? What is this world coming to? If I knew had to an angry text i'd have like 30 by now (I won my ipod in an original super smash bros tourney.)
Thanks for your honest opinion . Still, is there anything new in the iOS that is worthwhile? For instance, they mention an extra hilarious chapter after finishing the game. Is this truly new to the game or was it on the DS?
Game Impressions I've only played for a short while, but so far, I'm leaning towards holy crap and shit-good good shit. This might be one of the most immersive gaming experiences I've ever gamed and experienced, regardless of platform. And it's just so pretty. And the music is so good. And the streets are so lively, and vibrant. And the mechanisms are either so innovative, or just polished to bliss. Even the Twitter and social integration is clever, and contributes to the blindingly hip and fresh streetwise urban wonderland I now find myself in. Even the story holds my attention, so far (though perhaps only because my expectations on game-based storytelling are so meager, these days). I particularly like how Neku reacts in a subtly panicked, barely controlled anxiety-attacked manner to the incredulous events surrounding his entrance into the Games, as opposed to the traditional hero's journey reflex of see monster, grab sword, come to terms with mystical powers in a matter of seconds, and throw up walls of flames all along the coastline in a decidedly power drunk, megalomaniac fashion. And here's the roundhouse kicker: Until I came across FFT for iOS, I believed (and still partially do) Square Enix to be one of the most overrated developers in gaming history (though certainly not alone in that capacity), I believe the FF games are anathema to almost everything I enjoy in RPGs (they do make very ambitious and commendable attempts at narrative, meta-story and characterization, but they rarely suceed, to my mind), and I, by AUs and light years, prefer the western open world RPG tradition (in spite of its similarly regular failures to produce an immersive and engaging narrative, a trait that seems ubiquitous among RPG makers, regardless of geographical direction, and of game developers in general). And I had never played The World Ends With You before last night, and my insight into the game was limited to seeing and hearing Yathzee tearing it a few new ones (and missing most of the points, as he so often does). But in spite of this, reading TA's coverage of the TWEWY leak set off some internal curiosity mechanism, and after reading a few reviews of the game, TWEWY squarely took the top position on my most wanted list for iOS, pushing down, for the first time ever, Prevail, and squashing Topia and that strange turn-based robot MMO further down beneath. Perhaps it's because I only had to wait a few days for the release, but none of my quickly pumped up hype seems to have been unjustified, or have gone unfullfilled... Personal preference aside, how much of sophistication and intrication has been lost in the transference to the new combat mechanics? If you've the time, mind outlining how the old system actually worked, and what the differences are? Also, has anything else been altered, besides the wonderfully retinafied graphics? I know the music has been remixed, and that some social mechanisms (DS discovery mode) have been altered, out of necessity. How much of the original feel has been lost? Or is the game more immersive than ever? (This is some strange OCD impulse of mine. I don't have a DS, will never own one, and would not therefore play the original over the port regardless of your reply. But I still like to be told I am playing something that very closely resembles the original, and that I am not missing out on anything but the possibly unportable aspects of the 2 screen battle system ) I cannot speak for port-ness, portability, portiality and portage, but on its own merits, the iOS version so far exhibits no evidence of any of your worries, only the opposite. With the possible exception of the symbols that indicate newly gained powers, but I'm currently thinking they left those in 8-bit style for some peculiar and possibly stylish effect. In all other ways, the game seems rock-solid, and rockingly solidly written, narrated, composed, coded and ported. The merits and pitfalls of a community where the members feel comfortable and familiar enough to voice all their concerns and aggravations, perhaps, in combination with an apparently controversial game launch (though, as pointed out by some gaming sites, strong sales of an iOS version might help makea sequel possible. Imagine the uproar and possibly armed conflict that might result if that sequel only hits iOS... ). Anyways, I too would like to see this thread turned towards the actual merits (and flaws, should anyone find any ) of the game. Seems a waste to fill the threads of one of the most amazing iOS games I've ever had the dubious pleasure of clearing out several other large games to make room for, and indeed one of the most amazing games I've ever played, regardless of platform, with only tangentially related information and/or emotionally motivated, possibly occasionally irrational, criticism. So, fellow world-enders, lets give the semantically over-infused MrAlbum a reason not to ignore us Isn't that slightly oxymoronic?
If you have an iPhone 4S then you should be able to view the game in the app store. If you have an iPod touch 4th generation then as I previously mentioned you won't be able to see it in the app store.
In summary Ayjona, you say it's worth the hefty price tag right? My finger is aching to tap the buy button but still hesitating. Don't want it to be another Chaos Rings for me.
Ahhhhhhh! That irritates like its know ones business!!!! I have never heard of a game only avaible for the iPhone thats not avaible for the itouch. I guess I'll have to read a book for the ten plus hours of drive time for vacation.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe there are ways to get past the locks on it. You probably have to be jailbroken though. I'll do a bit of searching and get back to you. EDIT: That was easy. If you're jailbroken, you can use a certain application from Cydia that TouchArcade won't let me say the name of to download and install the app. Do not do this unless you have already bought the app though, because that would be piracy and that's bad.
It's worth it I have played the original DS title and got this one as well I say it's worth it in every possible way especially if you haven't played the DS version one of the best stories and a unique gameplay
That extra chapter is in the DS game. It's a completely absurd story and rather delightful. But also once you collect EVERYTHING in the game, that chapter contains the games true final boss and extra canonical ending. (you just need to go in a different direction from the silly-ness.)
if this is worth it or not is a second matter though, to my understanding the iTouch 4 has half(? correct me if I'm wrong) the RAM of the iPhone 4, which may or may not break compatibility, Jailbreaking will only make this worse, since this also puts a bigger memory strain on your device.
