Soon can mean anything, that's what so nice about that word. The Survivor: Rusty Forest offers a very watered down survival experience. It has all the mechanics on paper for a great survival game, like hunger/cold/radiation and how it affects your health, it has a night and day cycle with zombies and hounds (if enabled) etc. The crafting system is pretty solid (though there are very little resources to gather) but gathering is pretty lame, I guess that's my issue with all survival games though. You can then build workbenches/furnaces to be able to build more advanced weapons/shelters. I find it ridiculous that you can build yourself a house out of iron or a revolver or even modern bullets, but again this is my issue with all survival games. Crafting itself is pretty straightforward. Setting up things that you build works well. The AI is bad, really bad. There's just two types of AI for the wildlife (and zombies), which is either agressive or cowardly. It triggers far too late, sometimes only after you've hit the animal once and they don't interact with eachother. The real issue I am having with the animals is their running and attack speed. You can easily "kite" any animal even with melee weapons, all you have to do is walk backwards and keep hitting the attack button. Some animals' attack is so slow that you can stand and keep hitting the attack button. Another issue with this game is the world and it's lack of interesting things. The world is randomly generated, but pretty much the same all the time. You have your asphalt road, trees, rocks, abandoned houses and a few other things lifelessly scattered around. And the world you are put in is very, very small, so exploration is neither interesting nor are you forced to explore, because the game provides no challenge and you can get your resources in a fairly small area. The game being so easy turns out to be quite a big issue as you play along as you suddenly realize that there is no motivation in playing on, because you pretty much experienced it all in one or two day-cycles. You'd think the main motivation behind a "survival" game would be surviving alone, but in this game the only thing that can keep you occupied is crafting and buidling your own house. The game is however still in development and is being constantly updated. With the potential it already has it might just turn out really well one day and you might regret not buying it when it costed 99 cents. In all honesty it feels more like a tech demo featuring mechanics and passable graphics, without much game design. Recommended: for those that enjoy crafting in a survival game Not recommended: if you value exploration in a survival game
Let's see Testflight #2, all that could have been fixed, (as you said). I wanted to added on to your "soon could mean anything comment." FORGOTTEN MEMORIES COMING SOON!
Just to be clear, I was talking about The Survivor: Rusty Forest, not about The Wild in my previous post.
Development and Art Philosophy of THE WILD Thanks everyone for your feedback and comments. First and foremost we are striving to make THE WILD a well crafted, thoughtfully made wilderness survival experience. We are humbled and privileged to be able to share and shape development as we near TestFlight 2, and afterwards v1.0 launch. One of the greatest advantages of being a two man game studio is that we can rapidly prototype and not dev with our heads in the sand. Games like The Long Dark and Stranded Deep have debuted on pc and offer a glimpse of how awesome single player wilderness experiences can be without supernatural characters like zombies. For instance, paddling a survival raft and being surrounded by sharks in cold deep water has had me hooked and quite tense. An optional horror mode with forest style mutants to me sounds more invigorating after we nail fantastic wildlife and ai. Keep the comments, feedback and ideas coming. I am quite impressed by some of the recent "ending" ideas! -Danny
I always prefered "real life" survival games anyway and it seems that you will add those forest mutant just as an extra layer to the game, if I understood correctly. Will there be different difficulties that a player can choose from?
That was one of the greatest non- answers I've ever read. Are there going to be some sort of "zombie" in the game or is it just wildlife. And before everyone freaks out. I was making a joke at the start
I'm pretty stoked for this game if it has a vast amount of animals & good AI ! Also if the environments are fun exciting & entice exploration !
It would be a great idea to put a katana? For classic zombie killing maybe?( the walking dead and high school of the dead samurai reference )
This game looks damn good. I have had my eyes on things for about a year now. Radiation Island has come out which looks good and I will give a try later. How are things comparing to this? Are there things which they have featured which you will look to include and have there been changes which you are now looking to change as a result? Forgive me but I have not experienced any gameplay for the wild. Thanks
Good, good. Is the military themed update still on the cards in the future? Not that it'll change my mind about instabuying this, that's still a sure thing because the crafting and building still appeals to me greatly (even though I never thought it would in the past). The military themed update is still something that appeals to me greatly as well though. Can't help but have a desire for an M4 Carbine for some reason or other. It really is weird that this and Barren Roads (along with Forgotten Memories) are the only three games I'm only interested in getting hands on as soon as possible. Not ones I thought would interest me on mobile but seem as though they will be perfect fits on an iPad Air 2. Have to say thanks for contributing to the expansion of the mobile platform into something more. It is a genuinely appreciated effort to moving the platform forward.
I really don't think it would fit in at all and radiation island already has them. I'm sure they'll come up with a perfect load out Imo
Well, hot topics, weapon shops, pawn shops, anime shops, museums there are a lot of places ^^ and since is silently it couldnt attract zombies with the noise like the guns ^w^
Game Ideas Dear developers of The Wild, after I've played The Forest, Stranded Deep, The Long Dark & Radiation Island I'm missing one thing in all this game. The lack of secrets. All this games have a good crafting and survival component, but I would love to see something like the "mysterious package" in Stranded Deep with a function. It would be great to give the exploration aspect of survival games a deeper aspect. For example you could find a randomly placed strange key somewhere in the wild. This key is of no use, until you find a special hook. With this hook you can climb up to a special mountain location where a cave is to open with the earlier found key. What you find in the cave is one part of a bigger machine that you can build that is not possible to be crafted with the normal crafting system. And so on and on. This doesn't need to have a connection to any story. It's some kind of an oldschool adventure aspect I would love to see in this game. And this would be one more reason to explore the world till the last pixel. Another idea for secrets would be to find later on special blueprints to craft better stuff. Or to get all clues together to escape finally The Wild. I love secrets and setting together a bigger picture with all of this would be great. Maybe this idea helps you a bit. Maybe not. Have a nice day. Thanks for all the energy you put in this project. I love you.
How about the trusty wooden spear?, a weapon easy to make ( also bold action rifles arent actually part of a survival setting but they are there )
