Is there a beta sign-up available anywhere? Would love to test out the beta2 testflight when it comes out
This game looks awesome all it does gets better also can you show us some pictures of the wild life keep up the great work
I really like the concept of this game. The screens look very nice and capture the harsh, cold feeling. I am currently playing a new survival game where you must craft items and survive against animals etc. Your game sounds similar in many ways and I wish you all the best polishing it to a high sheen. Thanks
This has real potential but I do struggle to see how it will outdo Radiation Island. I've been waiting for this game for a long time because there were no similar survival games on iOS. However, the surprise release of Radiation Island has made it really difficult for me to be excited about this because it is such high quality. I think a lot of people will way up the two games when this released and go for radiation island. This does have a real potential though. My advice would be that Toonuva games completes everything so that the game is released in the best form possible, rather than releasing it and updating it gradually. Otherwise it will end up being that a few select people will download it in the flurry of downloads in its couple of weeks or so, and regardless of future updates, the downloads won't increase massively. I hope not and I know that the money from downloads isn't everything but the developer needs to look at what will get the most downloads so they can survive and make more games.
I downloaded radiation island and I can tell you this, it looks great and it runs great, but all the mechanics and little details are not good at all. And in my OPINION, I will take gameplay over graphics any day. The movement is garbage in it, AI is dumb as hell, zombies and animals start chasing you from a mile away, the game is not polished. From what I see from the wild I think it will be more polished and better than radiation island. They both have potential. Now let's get this test flight #2 out
We are making our game because we are backwoods wilderness guys from Vermont. Winter survival is the very soul of THE WILD. This is in stark contrast to the recently released zombie game. I applaud other developers coming out with first person products, I think it's really important and exciting work. But again, from the ai, to the survival mechanics , we are shooting for a winter simulation experience- for instance you will see wolves chasing deer, your character will shiver when freezing, you require fire/warmth to stay alive. Minecraft uprooted the entire industry by focusing on a sandbox crafting experience, no quests, no story, this is only the beginning.
True, it is in a different setting, which should give a different angle to it. I still believe there are features of Radiation Island that will be difficult to compete with. That game also presents you with the issue of cold, requiring heat from fires you build to stay warm, as well as falling from too high breaks bones etc. There are also occasions when the animals fight each other. The animals react differently to the situations they are in, e.g. The crocodiles move faster in water than when they go on land. Also the story is interesting and really adds to the game. I'm sure this will have some kind of story to it but by the sounds of things it will be mainly survival which may get a bit boring after a while (?). Also the map is incredibly large combined with fantastic graphics for most of the time. There are interesting ways of getting around the map, using gliders and canoes. I struggle to see what this game offers over Radiation Island other than a winter setting? If you haven't played it yet Toonuva, you probably should to see how another ios developer has gone about a similar game, to see how you can improve on their game.
I really wish I could test flight, but I'm jailbroken :/ But I do have a ?. Do you guys plan on keeping the winter theme or do you plan on changing the scenery to summer as it gets into summer? I thought you guys said something along those lines, but I could be mistaken.
i think that instead of comparing the wild to radiation island we need to accept them as very different experiences while still being in the survival genre. i am loving radiation island but the ability to craft large projects that take awhile to build in the wild give a different experience. i do think you are right in saying that toonuva should have a play around with radiation island to give and idea of what parts in their game are weaker, but they should mainly focus on their game and not worry about similar games in the market
We fell in love with DayZ bc of its utilization of the Arma engine. But we equally fell in love with Long Dark and The Forest. Interestingly, what I really appreciate about PC steam gaming is the notion that we as gamers can play many different sorts of survival games, some more simulation than others, some in winter, others in fall/autumn, zombies vs wilderness. Survival games have evolved into a genre. I can only hope the same for iOS. P.S I have played Radiation Island, I think it's a good Dead Island like experience for mobile. Does drain battery rather quickly- I suspect that's an Unreal engine issue, whereas we use Unity. All in all what I hope games like Minecraft or Radition Island do for mobile is get more and more people wanting survival open world games as it is currently lacking as a genre on mobile.
It's great that devs play and support other devs of like games, makes me have respect for you guys. All I know is, I can't do minecrafty stuff, blocks are boring, so I encourage all open world survival games we can get on mobile. Not to mention, similar games make it better for the devs to see what needs added, adjusted, tweaked. Makes a better product for them to offer and a better product for is to consume!
I have played radiation island and I liked the wild more it fells more better but that's my opinion I also would suggest the ability to make towers and connect walls to it
THE WILD - deep dive into winter immersion Going to be adding a temperature reader to the top left corner of in-game gui today as it really drives winter survival as mechanic, and also pairs well with the cold breath and cold meter we have. Other than that, we're getting the remaining gui elements done, tackling last bits of wildlife and world for TestFlight 2. -Danny
@toonuvagames, have you guys try survivalcraft? i think theres a lot of survival element in this game that perfect suits for the wild. im really curious to see where this game goes. hoping the best for you guys.
Yah, i saw early on in the forum that there would be season changes. Although a standard winter theme would boost the originality over 9,000
