    [app]The Trooper[/app]

Looks like a match 3 game mashed with a tower defense game. Looks pretty good but its 4.99 so Im going to wait to hear some first impressions before I buy. Anyone TOFTT?

The Trooper - Intriguing game... Anyone?

The description does not help and the gameplay is unknown.

Maybe someone here can help us? Or even TOFTT? :)

A game called The Trooper on Iron Maiden day? What a coincidence...

Well, as I just bought it and found time to play up to stage 6 some first impressions.

It is your usual match-3-game wiuth a twist. I kinda like those (really loved Jewel Quest 2 and Treasures of Montezuma) and Troopers also got me.

The twist: On the top of the screen you see troops attacking your little soldier (submarines (?), tanks, soldiers etc.). You need to match 3 symbols similar to teh attacker to get rid of him. A small number shows the life-force of the attacker - so deeper in the game you need to attack them several times. Like this little "strategic" element.

I didn't really find a story apart from getting your soldier or troopers closer to the fortress on an island ... but actually I don't really need a story.

I really like thr graphics, though I found the controls within the game a bit too fast, sometimes matching 3 that I didn't want, but that's a minor thing.

So in general, if you already own and love Montezuma and Jewel Quest (and Bejeweled and...) give this a try. I didn't regret buying it and love to play it :) Just switch off vibration... :)

Okay, now the pics make a bit more sense but are there any sort of powerups or twists WITHIN the game's matching 3? Like does it support some sort of combination system? Is this turn based or are the baddies moving in on your trooper in real time?

Ok, played a bit more now...

    There are some powerups
    - Bombs, can be tapped on and will destroy like 3 to 5 lifepoints which would be the same amount of symbols to be matched, those help if you are really under pressure.
    - Clock, can also be tapped and will stop the incoming forces for a few seconds.

Didn't get yet what you have to do to get those powerups - the seem to be droped to the playing-area randomly.

The enemies move in real time. So at level 10 right now it really get difficult and builds up the pressure quite fast... There is no limit with lifes though...

First of all, thank you for your review and for TOFTT.

And what about sound and background music? Subtle? Annoying?

Anyway, I think I'll hold a bit, at least I'll finish Montezuma first. :)

So, are there any differences in the baddies? Like is there anything, gameplaywise, to distinguish an enemy tank from an enemy jet (like maybe jets can fly over other units) or are they all handled exactly the same?
