Greetings...aside from playing games on my Iphone, Make miniature swords as a Hobby and to sell (this is not a solicitation, just wanted to share a pic), anyway this is "My version" of the sword from 'Hero of Sparta". I liked the design which is pretty much a Gladius (the wasp style blade) but the whole larger than life size is pretty cool... Anyway Enjoy
Mar12's Current Activity: Viewing Thread the Sword from "Hero of Sparta" lol..come on tell us ur secret! i want to make one too haha
Thanks everyone, its a hobby ive done since i was 14... 26yrs ago.... anyway its made from stainless steel, brass, a plastic composite I make from grounded up bakelite ashtrays and hobby glue and the synthetic gems...I use a dremel tool for all the main cutting and shaping and engraving, all sorts of files ranging from a large rasp to 2inch needle files and various grits of sand paper. the sword took a little over 3 months and I still have to make the stand. the language I did the engraving in is elder futhark runes which go back to 200 a.d , what the engraving says is "hail strength, invite glory and wisdom, journey to salvation manifest true self"
THANKS AGAIN EVEYONE I still have to make the stand. My plan is make the sword look like its resting on stalagtites (large icicles) at an angle that I make out of plexi glass and I sand it to give it a "frosted glass" look . Then I'll carve the runes out of brass and mount them on small geode rock slices, then place them infront of the stand... The last sword I made was a type of samurai sword called a "Tachi Koshirae" that complete with the stand I sold for $450.00, keep in mind its labor... the samurai sword and stand took about 6 months
mar12, so inspiring to see. I used to paint Warhammer figures, and although it was only the painting and not the 'making' of it, it still brings back memories of those miniature days. Thanks and good luck
