You're right, $8 isn't alot to ask, but like it or not 8-10 bucks is considered premium pricing as far as ios games go. If your gonna charge a premium price then you better deliver a premium product.
I'm not enjoying this game so far. It feels weird... The controls are frustrating, the vstick to move the character is bad and the right thumb to move the camera feels still. Feels like it needs oil... Dialogs are boring with just text and the character, the graphics and the UI look old... I don't know, I can express myself in English well, enough to explain.
Downloaded the game yesterday and all DLC packs (including the hintbook). The game runs smoothly on my iPad 2. Been having a blast playing--and the world lore is intriguing For anybody who's playing a mage with the DLC optional quest, has anybody figured out Spoiler the ring's riddle? I've been looking around in the gorge (something to do with the reference to 'the three brothers' in the riddle?), but I still haven't turned up anything. Found the hidden crevice and the treasure hunter a while back--but the ring riddle quest is still active. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong spot--but there's supposed to be a companion piece for the DLC treasure. Not sure where to go.
I didn't buy the DLC (yet), but my archer dude has all the spells a Mage would -- if I purchase the DLC, it'll be for the side quests.
Disappointing to read some of the reviews mentioning his game's "outdated" graphics and a clunky interface, dragging scores down a bit. It's not the prettiest game, but it's far from ugly. And to me, so far, I'm finding the story more engaging than some of the other Western RPGs like Aralon and Ravensword. This game isn't quite as "open world" as those. But I actually prefer a more narrative driven game. And I've had no issue with the controls and interface. Overall, a great experience from what I've played so far.
I'm very much interested in this game but I've already purchased Aralon and Ravensword 2 and haven't finished either. I think the main reason I haven't finished those games was the story wasn't engaging enough to make me want to continue playing, although I did enjoy just about all the other aspects of the games such as the combat and leveling systems, especially in Ravensword 2. Can someone let me know if I should still purchase this game and how it compares to those two aforementioned RPGS (primarily Ravensword as I had a lot of fun with that just couldn't get into the story, or lack thereof). Thanks
Difference? Read my above post. I'd say, at least from my experience so far, the story IS the difference. Not as open world as those games mentioned. But I find the narrative in this to be much better. That's not a knock on Aralon and Ravensword either, both IMO really showed how a massive RPG can be done on iOS.
The story in this is 10x better than most games on IOS period. Some games the story is practically non existent.
Sorry, just getting to look at all your posts now. I was up for 40 hours until late last night doing release stuff for the game, and ended up passing out for most of today. @Connector Thanks very much for being such an avid supporter of TSS and being so active in these forums. @andsoitgoes I wouldnt quite say twitch because youre not diving and rolling around in between attacks, like say the Batman games, but it is still real-time combat. And yes, the difficulty is adjustable with 3 different levels. And howdy fellow BCer! @Mfox76 For the shield, do you have the shield skill? If you dont, I dont think you get it, as the game chooses which items to give you based on your character skills (otherwise wed have to dump a whole pile of items on you!). For the weapon, youll have to do a small quest to get it, but its worth it. iCloud saves are on the list for an update. @christopherrocs Its not an open world like Skyrim. The Shadow Sun is more like BioWare RPG games, like Dragon Age. @psj3809 I love those 2am games too! @Nekku There was no time to optimize for the A7; we had our hands full with our Unity 4 upgrade around that time. And yes, I had thought the A7 could handle the post-processing effects, but it just cant at the 2048 screen res. @Sidgoku123 The length of a DLC? It really depends how big the DLC is that youre talking about. In terms of RPG lengths, Id say 10-15 hours is the length of an expansion. But at the same time, Ive seen plenty of modern action RPGs that take 15 hours to play! @kaibosh In terms of combat, its more towards Oblivion than NWN. In NWN, you could just click on an enemy to assign a target and your character would just continue to attack. In TSS, you have to tap to perform each attack, so its real-time. @Ayjona Yes, the attack button (or special attack buttons) must be pressed for every strike and there is manual blocking. Evasion is automatic and based on your attributes. The DLC are optional and add additional content that we made near the end of development. Aside from the hint guide, they are starter packs, meaning they can give players a bit of an edge at the start of the game, and with a bit of horse armour thrown in for players to look cooler in custom armours. Its what you often see in PC games, which is Ossians development background, and so why we did something like that. @grenadedodger The IAP content is only available in the IAPs, so they are extra optional content. @Anolin Thanks! The item comparison is something we already know to look at for the future. @Nanocore The IAP are transferrable. So if you buy it on your iPhone, then youll automatically have access to it on your iPad later. We dont have iCloud saves at this time, so yes, you would need to start a new game on your iPad in order to get the IAP content. @TitanAE I know Bill was already talking with you about this and forwarded the issue to our lead programmer, but I just want to try troubleshooting with you. 1) First, delete the game from your device. 2) Then close all the other apps in your task bar. 3) Then were going to try a full power-off of your device. Dont worry, you dont lose anything from your device its just like turning off your PC (vs a restart). This guarantees to clear the RAM fully. a) Press and hold the home button and the power on/off button simultaneously, until you see the Apple logo and then release # while ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing this. b) It needs to do its thing for several minutes and will turn itself back on. If it's been a while (like 10 minutes) and it still doesn't look like it's turned itself back on, then I usually press the power button a few times quickly, or the home button a few times quickly, or both a few times quickly, and it always turns on. 4) Now install TSS back on your device and run it. Is it working? @plewis77 Can you try the same instructions I gave to TitanAE above and see if that helps you? @HippoHumper If it helps you to decide, Ossians background is in developing story-based RPGs. We first did it with a mod for Neverwinter Nights for BioWare (Darkness over Daggerford), then with NWN2: Mysteries of Westgate, and also with an unreleased Witcher expansion pack. For all of them, we focused heavily on the story and character aspects, and so thats where one of our greatest strengths lie.
Yes, that does help. Thanks for the reply. Now excuse me while I head on over to the ol' App Store to purchase this game.
Yeah, I really like the story and rpg elements in this game. Having more fun with this game than either Aralon ot Ravensword. I like the divrersity of this game too. You can play as a warrior and mostly hack and slash. Or be a mage and cast a ton of different spells. The diversity in this game is neat.
Thank you for the fast response!!! I don't understand why more games don't use this feature- it's helps knowing you can take the game off at any time and not worry about the save file.
