Thanks for the impressions I really appreciate it. Still on the fence though as I do have a ton of games (had a 2g iPod for a long time before getting the iPad) and I really should snag Civilization Revolution from what I hear for my iPad strategy fix.
If you own an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad and are even remotely into RTSs, there's NO REASON why you shouldn't buy this. Sure it's not an RTS in the same sense of Starcraft or Command and Conquer. It's a stellar game nonetheless though.
I am playing this since 1995 or so for hours, days and weeks (if not months ) and it's highly recommended. On the hardware available at the time, the game could control a maximum of 64,000 individuals, all behaving autonomously. One of the best and cutest strategy games. The little crowds scuttling on the screen together with the sounds were groundbreaking. Since the origins are German it's very popular here in Europealmost every computer gamer knows Die Siedler. Gameloft's and Ubisoft's iPhotch version is very well done and based on The Settlers IV (except road building and transports as far as I remember, tried the lite version some months ago). getting annoyed with this. first tutorial campaign was fine, although extremely basic so was onto the next campaign. with no tips on what to do or how things work im kind of left stranded. cant move ANY of ma units whatsover, if theres soldiers they are hard to tell from normal units. cant build, cant do anything. really annoyed since i found settlers on the amiga a piece of piddle. oh and the lack of skirmish, as billions have stated, is inexusable. grr
not sure whats happened here tbh. went from having useful screens explaining buttons to a mission about exploration and rescuing people. 1 screen informs me of this and thats yer lot. ive clicked on anything and everything but to no avail
Yeah I thought this game was overly complex. I played through the tutorial and then the rest of the Roman campaign, however after that I had no interest in continuing. Don't get me wrong, I like a complex game (I'm not one to sit there and play Doodle Jump all day), but this was just ridiculous.
Mayan mission 3 I'm just about to start this mission. The brief before you start says: "...our priests are hopeful of Divine Intervention in favor if a stone head is erected at a holy deserted place marked by a stone circle." I usually have a quick skim through the walkthroughs at the settlers gang site before i start a mission to give me an idea of what to expect (although i usually end up doing it completely differently anyway!), however the walkthrough for this level doesn't mention anything about this devine intervention. I'm assuming it's for iron as there's none to start with. Is it worth bothering with or should i do as the walkthrough advises and set my sights on the iron deposits further south on the map? Is this holy place near to where you start, or is it going to take me a while to get there anyway? I've been playing this game pretty heavily for a couple of weeks, and i have to say i love it. I very nearly gave up on it to start with, as it certainly has a steep learning curve. The help pages are lacking in much detail, there may be 35 or so pages but they're mostly pictures with short descriptions on what something is. I attempted the 'Breaking the blocade' roman mission over and over until i eventually got it, from that i learned how to get a small well run colony going nice and quick. After that i completed the other levels (up to the last Mayan one atm) in just a couple of tries, and few on my first attempt. From reading through this thread it seems a lot of people have the same couple of problems, so i thought i'd share a little bit about how i've managed to sort them out. The two main problems seem to be, mines not producing, and tool/weapon smiths stopping production. with regard to the mines not producing i've found that it's almost always due to lack of food. It's simple to check, just have a look at the mine, are there piles of meat/fish/bread sitting outside? if you're still not sure you can click on the mine and have a look at how much, if any, food is being supplied. The main offenders are the coal and gold mines. Coal miners favourite food is bread and bread is the most awkward food to produce, hence shortages. You need 4 different types of building just to make it (water hut, grain farm, grain mill and bakery). A problem with any one of these will mean unhappy coal miners! To find out what the problem is, it helps to work back along the supply chain. Check the bakery, is it producing bread, and how quickly? is it getting enough flour from the mill? is it getting any water? is the mill getting enough grain from the farms? are the farms producing enough grain? It may often be the case that everything is ok, but it's just not going fast enough, then you'll just have to build more farms and bakeries etc and make sure you have enough carriers to take the bread to the miners. Gold miners like fish, now fish is pretty easy to produce, your fishermen just pull them out the water and they're ready. The problem here is the fishermen. They like to stop working, usually because they've overfished an area (look out for fish jumping out the water to see if fish are available). Sometimes though they just seem to be lazy, there can be fish jumping about but the fishermen just stay in their huts. Give them a prod by moving their working area along the shoreline a bit. After you've done this keep an eye on the hut for a few seconds and see if they come out to fish, if not, try again in a different spot. If you don't get any joy this way it may just be they've over fished the whole area, best to just crush the hut and build a new one elsewhere. Before you do though, just check how many fish are at the hut by clicking on it. If there's 8 then the reason he's stopped fishing is because he's reached the maximum he can store outside his hut....but if that's the case then your gold mine isn't non-productive through a lack of fish...unless you have no carriers to take the fish to the mines. A good strategy is to get your food production going nice and early before you even think about mines. Build storage areas for the food also. Most buildings in the game stop producing whatever it is they're producing once they have 8 of that item sat outside the building. So you may have a perfect bread supply and production built but it grinds to a halt once the baker has 8 loaves sat outside his bakery, and 8 loaves isn't enough to feed your hungry coal miners once your mines are up and running. Settlers won't come and remove items from buildings unless they're needed elsewhere, but by building storage areas they will then come and collect items and move them to storage allowing production to carry on. You'll also have a nice backlog of food for the miners once you do start mining. Items stored outside of buildings was the number one culprit for my smiths stopping production too. It took me a while to figure out. At first you can't see that anything is wrong, they have plenty of coal and iron, but nothing is happening! Build a storage area or 2 and have your tools/weapons stored there. Your settlers come and remove the tools/weapons from outside the smiths and hey presto, production starts again!
Roman quest the search is on Hi everyone, perhaps the people here can help me with à mission. I am completely stuck on the level: The roman quest: The search is on. I have tried à million things but unlike the pc version of this game the priests can't melt snow in the iPod version of the game.. I tried the shortcut magic thingy but that one isn't working either. So now I'm wondering if I do the right thing? What exactly is the purpose of this mission on the iPod? Is it to kill all the pirate ships? Or is it to find the dark tribe? I have been round the mountain with lots of snow, but like I said earlier is that I have no idea how to get over the snow... Has anyone completed this level already? If so, could you help me out??? Thank you so much in advance! (it's doing my head in that I'm stuck on this level!!!!)
Yep, I'm beginning to believe that UbiSoft is completely inept. This is like the 3rd or 4th game that is not delivering retina graphics.
Just goot this game and can't get through the tutorial!!! I get to where you build the smelter, but the carriers don't transport my coal, only the gold ore. There are 8 units of coal piled up next to the mine along with a pile of bread. I tries building the smelter in various location but no luck! Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.
Do you think we'll ever get a Skirmish mode for this game? I'd love to think so, but can't see it... The annoying thing is that the original game only had Smirmish instead of all of the Missions, so I can't see what prompted them to remove Skirmish mode in the first place!
Games like this, really let me know gameloft tried. I wish I had been into iOS gaming when these came out...
I loved this game so much! But even if they made a settlers 2 it would be a timer builder game now I bet.
