Skirmish would have been nice, but as it is this game can give you about 40 hours of game time-now how many iPhone game can give you that? This is the best strategy game for the iPhone IMO and currently my personal favorite along with Eliminate.
MrDark, the same thing happened to me - I initially disliked the game for being a port of a more recent version of Settlers, now it's my favorite game No kidding! Lack of freeplay IS upsetting but there's no shortage of replay value.
I wish reviews werent so opposing for this game, lack of freeplay is a big deal in my opinion. In similar games I sometimes just want to give myself a challenge, or put enemies on simple AI so i can play with building options. At this price its a pretty hard impulsive buy. I suspect its only going to be a couple more days until i cave though
Need help with Roman 5 Hi, I don't know how to win Roman 5. Those enemy towers kill my huge army in no time. Catapults don't seem to help much, either. Any tips? Thanks! gDc
I'm stuck on the fourth roman mission, cant find out how to build the damn iron mine! Can anyone explain how to build one, please?
Expand your territory by building military structures around the border lines (red dots) and then you will notice some land to build your mine. Also, make sure to build a sheep ranch while you have space in order to get meat (w/ slaughter house). Meat is required for the settlers to work and build the mine...Am a complete noob at this game but that worked for me ;-) Cheers
My game time is already clocking in at 15 hrs and i'm not even done with the Romans yet! I still can't believe i'm playing this on my iphone.
Question about the 4th roman mission to someone who has passed it. How is the monument destroyed? I have tried encircling it with soldiers, bringing catapults to it, and going after every guard tower on the map. I am almost to the point of just skipping the mission and moving on to the next campaign. It is probably something very simple, but I cannot figure it out for whatever reason. A hint would be appreciated
I passed it the other night. I know you said you went after every guard tower, but thats how I won. You should make sure you haven't missed a tower. The way you win the mission is to wipe the enemy off the map, you can't actually use a catapult etc to destroy the monuments.
It took me over three hours to win this mission in the end. You will have to send in at least a few waves of 100 soldiers each to finally win. One way I find best is to build two armies of 100 archers each. Having a large amount of archers is really effective and good at wiping out the enemy armies, which means your soldiers can walk straight in and focus on the towers. After the archers have taken out the enemy army, have an army of 100 soldiers level 2 or higher to take out the towers. Also don't fight the enemy armies next to their towers. You need to try to draw out their army before you go too deep into their territory where their towers are. If you try to take out towers and fight their armies at the same time your troops will be destroyed quickly.
Forget about any free play mode or skirmish, its gameloft they already forgot about this game.If yu look at any of their realesses they never add anything apart from minor bug fixes etc.I WISH I'm wrong!
Is there any Settlers veteran who already finished the game? How long did it take? I am really considering getting it but no free play... arghhh. No lite version... arghhh. I didn't really like the S III+ versions so much but currently there is nothing better so what to do. I really really wish they would have made Settlers II instead.
I'm a long time Settlers II fan who felt the same way. I never liked any of the latest Settlers. I gave the game a chance and I'm surprised at how much fun I'm having
Strategy guide Does a strategy guide exist for this. For the life of me, I can't get things to flow in terms of resources. The majority of the time, I have settlers standing around doing nothing. I'm on Roman level 5 and can't seem to create a good infrastructure. I have Storage areas, mines, barracks, almost all the building. Biggest challenge i face is not enough space to construct buildings. I've tried building towers near the borders to no avail. I haven't figured out how to use the Gardener either. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks man, I guess I will give it a shot then. As I didn't play it yet on iphone/ipod and I haven't seen the level, I guess I can just tell you from previous experience. If you have few space, cut out the trees, that's pretty effective. If your carriers are just fooling around, you are probably short on some resources so find out what it is.
You build towers and then have to put swordsmen/bowmen in them. The border will then increase. I use one area for growing/replanting trees, then take trees/stone from everywhere else, thus creating space.
Settlers Tips A tip I picked up is to destroy these small towers after they have been manned. Your border will stay expanded, and you'll get half of the resources out of the small tower that you put into it. It also reduces the number of weak points you have in your settlement. For example, it is easier to defend one or two large towers with 100 men than to divide these men up among more towers. Building storage areas is very important. I usually build four or five at least. They are a double-edged sword, though. I recently built an ammo workshop to convert stone into ammo for my catapults. I built a storage area dedicated to ammo. Can you imagine my surprise when my stone surplus had dwindled to nothing? The ammo workshop had converted all of my stone to ammo, just like I had asked it too (without realizing it, of course)! For anyone interested, you can read more tips and walkthroughs here. I recommend reading the walkthroughs only after you have completed a mission or gotten really stuck.
