I also have the idea that if you place a building on a certain spot it will will work randomly instead of always. I understand the idea of a food market placed a little together but how the **** should I know where to place certain buildings where they should be?! it just make no sence

I don't understand your problem. Can you give me an example?

Sometimes the problem with buildings not working is because goods didn't make it all the way down the line to where they are.

Have these resources been delivered to the buildings? Have you ordered the buildings to build specific items or were you expecting that to be done automatically?

If you have to wait for a long time, either your infrastructure is inefficient and not outputing what you need, in the amounts you need, or you have fewer carriers than your settlement actually needs.

if you tap on a building you can the the incomming and outcomming goods. my incomming goods are always 8/8 wich means full. You can see the goods scattered around the building yet the bastard aint working. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. It just blows my mind. The game is also telling you you need a hamer to build a catapult for example.. yes I know but if I can´t make tools or not as how I want them to make. I have the feeling this game won't put me in charge at all.. it does whatever the hell it wants

one more thing though, how can u control and make sure the goods will deliver to a certain spot? I thought THAT part was done automaticly

Have you ordered the worker to build anything new? Also, if there's 8 items in the output "area", he can't build anything new. You'll need to move them out of there before he can start working on something new. I had that happen to me in the Weapon Shop once.

Not at all. I don't have the problem you're describing unless my settlement is inefficient and there's not enough raw materials/carriers to move things along at a brisk pace.

Never have I had 8 wood/8 iron in the Toolshop, ordered the construction of something, and had it not work. Except, like I said, if there's 8 items cluttering the output area.

The game works. You're doing something wrong. In fact, this version gives you a LOT more control than the other games, where you could just set which tools were MORE LIKELY to be built, and the game decided which it was actually going to make. Now you can directly order specific tools/weapons.

If you only have, say, one Stonercutter working but 8 or 9 different buildings that need stones, it sure will look like nothing is being done.

The same idea applies to any goods in the game. The challenge is to make an efficient settlement. I've had moments where everything seemed locked down but that's because I had inefficient stone/wood/metal distribution, or not enough carriers.

if you're not building anything, just switch all Diggers & Builders into Carriers, that work well for me

U know, I will never understand this. Why you ask, if I have a vineyard full of bottles of wine but aren´t carried to the small temple as a sacrifice to the gods for mana while I have plenty of carriers that can do the job but just stand there and do jack shit. Or my toolsmiths who have all the goods but aren´t doing shit. Even when i just want to order one axe.. this game is just... not for me I guess. I thought, fun game but no, beeing a rocket scientist is a must here!

OK.. here is the problem. The problem is that, if you have a toolsmith who you ordered to build many stuff, it will save it near the building. If there lies too much stuff, he stops working. Now, the clue is to let carriers carry it away but the big question is.. how? They do it in the beginning automaticly but during the game they stop doing it! I made a lot of carriers, like 60 or something but still, 10% of my settlers are working the rest is doing nothin

This shit you can't know from the beginning, specially when ur new to settlers

Is there a free flash game like this that i can try out to see if i like the game genre? Graphics look really nice and the concept seems interesting to me. I'm just not sure if i will like the game play or be any good at it.

Create a Storage Area. Once it's built, set it to store the surplus items.

Done. See? All you had to do was STORE away the extra items. In a STORAGE AREA.

    Not rocket science :)

Your carriers won't just carry an item to a random place willy-nilly. They'll carry it where it's needed, and only there.

That's all you need to know to avoid situations like that. Too many items cluttering a workshop? Create a need for those items (storage area is the easiest and most obvious one).

Now imagine what it was like to learn Settlers I, where NOTHING was labeled and you didn't even know the names of the buildings. I honestly can't even remember HOW I learned it.

    Slaving peon.
Not here; not there; not anywhere!
Maybe a little thing called a manual. Yup, back then they still came in handy. Nowadays they seem little more than an afterthought, seeing as in-game tutorials have taken that job for the most part.

I never saw a manual. The game came to me via my dad's friend, on a floppy disk.

By the way me and my friends didn't even know the name of the game (English isn't my first language), we refered to it as "the castle game".
