Just went to buy this and can't because it's being modified - up from £2.99 to £3.99. Didn't realise the price was a launch sale or I'd have bought it sooner. Gameloft have just lost a sale - I won't be buying it until it comes back down in price, if at all.
It IS worth £3.99 though. The best game Gameloft have released if you ask me, and still cheaper than the others.
Stuck on Roman mission - Level 4 Hi guys, Got this for my iphone 3GS, have not played Settlers before but I've played Starcraft/Warcraft etc. Questions 1. How do you defeat the enemy? 2. Can you occupy an enemy building? Not just military buildings.e.g towers 3. I've built catapults and loaded them with ammo, how do you get them to attack? 4. How do you get your military units to attack the enemies settlers\buildings, not just their military? p.s - Remember to get mana for the priests to do magic! You need the Vineyard building for this.
Too expensive I was about to get it and it didn't let me, saying that it was being changed in the iTunes Store. When I tried some hours after, the price had gone up by 50%. Given the reviews, I was doubting to get this, now it is certainly too much. You took the decision for me. You are too greedy for me, guys. See ya when you put it on sale (if I'm still on the mood).
they are completely different games, Settlers is more like building a economics society instead of war, I would say it is a post-modern simcity to me
Yeah! Let's drive the appstore into the ground! Everything $0.99 so we'll never see another high-budget game as long as we live! For the revolution! I say they fix the price at $10.
are you kidding me? you're taking a short cut man... 1. build a mine so you can get ores to make tools/weapons 1.1. before that miner need food to start, they need fish, bread, and meat 1.1.1. so you build a fish hut, before that they need fish rod 1.1.1.1 before making the fish rod, you need to build tool house or sth. 1.1.2. for bread, you need a bakery house 1.1.2.1 before bakery house start to work, you need flour & water 1.1.2.1.1 water? build a water hut close to water source 1.1.2.1.2 flour? build a grain farm, and also you need a grain mill, buildings x 2 Is that complicated enough? no? ok 1.1.2.2. Meat? build a sheep hut or sth.... 1.1.2.2.1 build slaughterhouse beside, to have some meat... haven't mention all the tools need for each building... have fun yet? NOW, go to mine now.... is that sound easy? you tell me~ ha
Wow, I've never played this game before but I'm a huge Civ/Civ Revolution/starcraft/stronghold fan, and I have to say this is one awesome strategy game! The game is really deep as I've spent at least 4 hours on the game and I still have much more to learn, but once you start to get the hang of the mechanics it's very rewarding. Like previous posters have said if your just looking for battles, your going to be disappointed because most of the game is managing your economy. The attacking is very simple but this translates well with the iphone's limited selecting abilities. Another nice touch to the game is that it does a good job of saving your battery life, I played for 2 hours at 100% battery life and I am only down to 70%. If anyone on here remembers the first stronghold, this game will kind of remind you of it with the look and feel as well as the intricacy of the economy. So far I have only played the Roman Campaign but you can play as the Vikings, Mayans, and the Dark Tribe as well. So if anyone here is on the fence as to whether or not they should get it, I would suggest jumping over because this is one solid iPhone strategy game!
If they bothered to understand prices (as the iTunes Store allows to differentiate by country), in stores other than the US where the center of the Universe seems to be located, money is worth differently. For example, 10 dollars are around 40 argentinian pesos. We earn similar 1 to 1 numbers in money (I mean, a minimum Argentinean salary is 1500 pesos, you do the math), so it means that this game costs here in Argentina 28 pesos. That is a LOT of money for a game. A physical boardgame is worth that money. Maybe 7 dollars is not a big deal in the US, but it really is here, especially given the mild reviews (I did play and liked Serf City by the way, a million years ago). I was saying 5 dollars is still too much here, but I was willing to give it a shot. I am not saying that developers should give their work for free.
Okay so really it's Apple who are screwing you guys over, cause in other places it's not a lot. Although some might say that this game is worth the price of a physical board game... I know I'd rather play this.
Once again, I am an iPhone developer so I know what the iTunes store allows you to do. It allows to put a $7 USD price in the US and a $3 USD price in Argentina, but developers don't really care about this (BTW GameLoft has offices and developers in Argentina, so they can ask if 7 dollars is a lot or not, it is just a small config change in the Store...). Of course you can't put something below 0.99 USD anywhere, and there you could argue Apple is limiting your options, but this is not the case.
Gameloft put up a tutorial video for The Settlers: I generally hate dev tutorials post release, but maybe this might help a few folks.
Yes, it does sound easy, because all of that is logical. Wow, miners need food to work. Fishermen need a place to work and fishing poles. You need water and grain to create flour and then bread. Build a sheep farm to supply the slaughterhouse to create meat... big surprise! This isn't exactly rocket science here people (sorry for the cliché).
Anyone think it is easy & enjoyable, go buy it now. for anyone else, I'll suggest stay away from it... I'm back to play Eliminate now...peace
all of that is LOGICAL?? fish -> fishing poles -> iron bar -> iron ore -> miner -> fish -> fishing poles ... you run into chicken & egg problem, how logical is it? J/K enjoy!
