I don't understand. I'm on these forums all the time, and yet I still manage to miss so many excellent games. This one, for instance. I just came across the dev's new post (thankfully), read through the thread, and promptly purchased the game. Love it! Died already, came here to post.

So far I've only jumped in to check the controls, graphics, etc., but I can't wait to dive back in. One thing surprised me, however. No music toggle! Whaa? ;) I know, I know -- it doesn't bother most people, but as I've mentioned in a number of other threads, it really bugs me. Like, really. It bugs me so much that I'm sure I've tossed aside some good games simply because the music irritated me. My loss, no doubt, but I can't enjoy a game for long periods of time if the music is irritating me. And the music is almost always irritating me. There are exceptions, of course.

But I have faith! Faith because I see that this dev is responsive, and friendly, and giving, a hard worker, super game maker, probably quite dashing, and obviously an all-around swell dude who could be prone to over-the-top compliments, and therefore apt to toss a bone to his complimenting audience.

We in the gaming community (or maybe just me) implore you! Please help us (me) avoid another dreaded scourge of IGMPDMAS (In-Game-Music-Particularly-Dungeoning-Music Aversion-Syndrome). Might it be addressed in a future update, oh kind & caring sir? You have done much already, I see that. But perhaps, just perhaps, you could offer one last tweaky morsel to the suffering masses (me). Please, reach out, use your great gift of toggling knowledge, and give peace to the afflicted (you know...me).

    Thank you.

hahaha oh noooo! I’m sorry you don’t dig the music, mate. That’s a bummer, but I think I’ll hop back in and have to fix that for you. I haven’t heard the music being such an issue and if that condition truly exists (IGMPDMAS) I mustn’t allow it to deter gamers from a fun little dungeon romp.

The only condition is if you play without the in game music, it better be played with extreme death metal overtop :D

Just kidding. But thank you for checking the game out and enjoying what you’ve played so far! I’ll be sure to report back when a fix is in place.

Oh, it is real, sir. IGMPDMAS is very real, and it's spreading. Ok, I don't actually know that it's spreading but I can imagine it is, it being of such an insidious nature. There is no cure. It can only be remedied, set right so to speak, by having the music NOT happen in the first place. That or a little switchy thing.

As for a death metal overlay, I don't think so. Not for this old man. Your dungeon is nerve-racking enough, what with all the goo and spitty things, not to mention the deluge of body parts I have to endure. Then the water creatures and speedy little brutes with bullets (or maybe they're tiny grenades, I don't know), and God knows what else I haven't even seen yet, but I know they're there and they've got my number. And I have high blood pressure. If a soundtrack is to be had, I need the music to unfluster me. Something electronic, droning, maybe. Although that could frighten me too.

I've played a bit more of your splendid game and I'm loving it. It looks and plays great on a big iPad Pro. I'm a huge fan of rogue-likes, mainly because you're expected to die, and over the years it has been established that I'm very good at that. I think I'll be playing this one for a good long while.

    Onward to another eradication!

P.S. Thanks much for your reply and toggle consideration. And your game. :)

The Schrism is on its way.

    Greetings, Scrungeoneers!

This last weekend has been a doozy but it was not worthless!

The Schrism update is just around the corner for iOS. It is currently awaiting approval by the Apple Lords themselves. If they are so kind, we could see it drop in the he next 24 hours! Huzzah!

There's plenty to discover: BOWS! ELEMENTAL BLADES! NEW RELICS! HARD MODE BOSSES! A NEW FINAL BOSS!

You'll have to stick it out to the END to face the terrifying Schrism.

Of course, it can't be as easy as it was... Let's just say the Scrungeon is more fierce than ever.
But also, don't worry: Some combat bugs have been fixed. Like the dreaded "Get hit a million times in under a second" spike ball death. That's been alleviated. And a 3 second safety bubble encapsulates you at the start of every floor so you have a moment's reprieve to get your bearings. But! That bubble pops as soon as YOU attack, so keep that in mind before going ham sandwich on those baddies.

I hope you all thoroughly enjoy the additional content, and get lost in the Scrungeon yet again!

As for me? I've got a lot of freelance work going on, but I have plans for the next title already. It's been drowning my brain with crazy ideas and I cannot WAAAAIT for you all to see what's next for When's Lunch Games and yours truly.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the support and all of the wonderful emails and activity in the forums. It means the world to me and I wouldn't be here busting my ass if it weren't for all of you.

    Much love!

    -Chase

    The Schrism Patch Notes

The planet continues to crumble beneath the weight of enveloping darkness. The Schrism erupts and tears yet another hole in the sky. The atmosphere drips into space like the tears of a starving infant. Agonizing fear cripples the populace as the ozone melts away. This is the end. The horror has only begun to dig it’s filthy, wretched claws into skin and bone. The Hollow Ones rise again stronger than before, pushing our hero harder than ever. A couple new monsters crawled forth from the schism in the void, unleashing terrible new pain on the unsuspecting Scrungeoneer.

As time and space tore asunder yet again, new relics were sprinkled beneath the surface, apparently one of which summons a stench filled puppy. Were blades too up close and personal for you? What about swords imbued with flame? Or daggers dripping with poison? Or bows that transcend this mortal realm by piercing through the flesh of as many enemies as it can?

The time has come to trudge deeper than ever before and put an end to the Schrism once and for all. This will not be easy, Scrungeoneers.

    Take up arms, fight back.

    TL;DR
    THE SCHRISM UPDATE IS HERE:

    - New relics and weapons!
    - New enemies!
    - Hard mode bosses beyond the endgame.
    - New final boss fight!
    - Various bug fixes.
    - A new dungeon floor effect.
    - A new trap.
    - I love you.

Man, I can’t even buy this game, with it on sale, and I wish to ####ing god I could. I couldn’t care less about the game itself, it doesn’t even have to be good. I simply wish to donate my hard earned coinage to a man who is clearly a linguistic master mind, weaving words in and out of update path notes, like a graceful magician creating elaborate works light and sparkles, a spectacle of which I have never seen, right before my very eyes, forever altering my perception of what good update notes can look like....

You’ve changed my life, based update-god....
As soon as I am able, I shall send my hard earned coinage with my blessing.... and enter the scrungeon myself....

Soon..... I hear it calling me....

is this a roguelike with permanent upgrades after each death (Soul Knight, Pocket Rogues) or no permanent character progress (die, start from 0 again)?

if i liked the above, will i like this? i don’t know because these have got to be the most upbeat happy colors combined with blood gore and some creepy enemies I dont know if i will love it or leave it, help me decide please :) Only the rainbow level in Diablo3 came close, and that was one level not the whole game :)

Haha I’m glad the upbeat palette combined with the brutal violence intrigues you! The game has some permanent upgrades that carry over each playthrough: bosses unlock portals to another dungeon as well as upgrade potential starting gear. Shops sell permanent character stat upgrades purchased with in game coins. Mostly that kind of stuff, the rest is lost upon death, the Scrungeon shows no mercy.

Ahhh I’m so glad someone appreciates the zany patch notes haha. I have fun writing them, perhaps too much fun.

Check your private messages though, I have a question for ya.

As someone who is a self-described lexiphile and trying to dip my toes into writing as a hobby, I too love your writing style and vivid vocabulary in the app description and updates.

On another note, I finally took the plunge and bought this game on sale (been reading this thread since release). I only like these rogue games if they have permanent progress of some sort. I did feel like the game could use a bit more content to make it even more awesome so I was really looking forward to this update and tried to restrain myself from playing a lot. I've been refreshing all day. Just saw the comment above about the iOS 10 requirement. Checked the app store page and the update is indeed out. My heart just sank. I'm on iOS 9. Was really looking forward to it but I'll keep playing anyways.

It's really becoming an issue only recently for me with lots of great games needing at least 10. I know I need to upgrade from iOS 9 at some point. I like apple products, mostly their computers, but I can't STAND the complete lack of customization and options for OS functions and UI for their mobile devices (don't care about cosmetic tweaks). The day I can't jailbreak is the day I begrudgingly switch to android.

Anyways, congrats on a great game and thank you for being an active, humble, passionate and dedicated developer.

Oh nooo! I didn’t consider the iOS 10 requirement as an issue... crap. Apple has been pushing for all applications to be for iOS 10 and up due to the 64 bit requirement of all their software... I may be able to roll out another update (same content) with iOS 9 as a base requirement.

I thought I saw somewhere in the dev guidelines to make everything 10 and up but I could be crazy. Hell, I am crazy... look at this game and the item names.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience all, I’ll try to get an update on this as soon as possible and apologize for the inconveniences. Truly!

I fully agree with you, I also have all my devices jailbroken for many reasons like being able to control what I own. I already made the plunge to Android but honestly I think IOS is much better. The main reason I don't update is the 32 bits apocalypse.
