I'm Christian and don't believe this. I believe (in the subject of the rapture) that it'll happen in Jesus's next coming. His coming is going to be like a thief in the night according to the Bible, so it's VERY difficult to tell the next coming, if it even IS possible.

    This man=radical Christian.

Today was supposed to be Jesus' next coming, the end of the world according to this dude isn't until October. If he's supposed to slip in and out ninja style without being seen, how do you know it didn't happen? Christians are just going to delay the second coming forever because they'll never even be able to convince themselves it's happening to them.

But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

No, what we don't understand is how people are gullible enough to believe such fictitious tripe in the first place.

Agreed, I'm Christian as well. Seems like it's all too extreme.

You are very correct in not understanding. The verse proves that and you even gave it credibility.
Anyway, last post. Not wasting my time here.

Pretty much. I try not to rub it in too much because it's obviously a pointless argument, but I find it quite offensive to human intelligence how people can claim to be logical and have common sense one moment, then suddenly turn and accept a bunch of stories that defy both logic and common sense. Just because their parents/a book/a priest told them it's true. Then some people also have the audacity to claim other religions as false, as though theirs is somehow more credible. It's baffling.

I am going to put my bit in and then GTFO.

I don't believe in God, especially if the God is human.
What are the chances that humans are the only living thing is a huge universe?
God makes me think that we're up ourselves. If there a very high percentage that other life is out there then why is the "king" of everything a human figure?

I could sound stupid here, but I don't mind, I said what I think.

    So much truth.

Imagine if your girlfriend's family were extremely religious Catholics. Now, imagine yourself coming from an agnostic family and having dated the above described girl for over two years. Sounds like hell right? Couldn't imagine how that'd work out. Oh wait..

It's disgusting how often her family targets me with such shit. It's no different than being racist if you're going to discriminate based on religion. What disturbs me most is that they (Roman Catholics) were once the most condemned practitioners of religion in America. They had so much going on about respecting people for their different beliefs back then, but now, I feel pretty endangered if I even let on I'm not f**king Christian at a Starbucks.

What's worse is how they react when a different religion is mentioned. We'll save that story for another day. Religion and hypocrisy go hand in hand from here in Houston, and I'd imagine, a lot of other places. To be honest, I think I live in the only family here in Bellaire that doesn't attend church. Surprised they haven't burned down my house? Oh wait..

Let's not even talk about what happens when you try to argue with logic and reason.

Funny thing about all of this? I respect them and their beliefs. It just doesn't come back, ever. Land of religious freedom? Ended over 200 years ago.

Wow, I hope that works out for you. Is your girlfriend as religious as the rest of her family? I'm not sure I could handle it... it'd be like dating someone who genuinely believed she could speak to trees or something.

Thought this seemed pretty relevant, with the rationality/logic thing: http://www.thechurchofgoogle.org/Scripture/Proof_Google_Is_God.html

    It's thought-provoking, at least.

I don't think so, but she says it's important to her, and that if this relationship goes somewhere in the future, it has to take place at a church. Actually, she talks about stuff like that a lot, but I guess it's common among teenage girls. She also begs me to go to church often, which brings a hilarious scenario upon us. I usually agree to go, so she goes and asks her parents if I can go with them on Sunday morning. What does her parents say? "No, he's just trying to get on our good side. He doesn't deserve to go. Find a boyfriend that actually believes." More than one occasion? I think so.

Yeah, it's often been pretty hard to be with her in the past few years, meh.

Oh, when her grandmother tells makes her read the Bible together with her at home, the lovely old lady loves to go on tangents about burning Muslims and how their religion is trash/nonsense/sinful.

I've often tried to stand up and argue with logic, but I've found that it's better not to mention religion ever when I talk.

About speaking to trees, that reminds of another scenario that occurs quite often. Her parents insist that it'd be better if she dated someone who had any belief at all, even if it was someone who worshipped "rocks, trees, and the ocean." At least my girlfriend is truthful and tells me everything...which probably isn't a good thing most times.

She also tells asks me frequently that if we live together in the future, will she have to go to church alone every weekend...makes me want to punch some holes into the wall.

In any case, the one part I never got was, if there's hundreds/thousands of religions out there, and equally many or more deities, how can they all be true? Most of them don't share commonalities at all whatsoever. I thought just the fact that this is true makes it apparent that none of them have a good chance of being true. We'll see one day, or rather we won't. But really, when you argue with reason, the only response anyone ever has is.."It's in the Bible."

The most I've ever been subjected to religion is having to go to church with my friend whenever I stayed at his house as a kid. It was fairly casual though, they told us stories and I just took them as fiction, no one seemed to try and convince me it was fact. All I got from the stories was the basic message that people should be good to one another and I kinda thought "Sure, I can do that. I don't have to believe in God to be a good person".

Now that I think about it, the UK is fairly good for leaving people alone. The only place I've ever had a view really forced upon me is on the internet. We've got churches in every town so there must be Christians about (and a bunch of other religions too), but they don't really speak out about it in public... no billboards, no TV ads or anything. Occasionally there's a crazy guy with a megaphone quoting passages from the Bible but they rarely get paid any attention. I've also got a few family members who are Christian and not one of them has ever mentioned religion to me.

You obviously can't talk civilly without trying to knock down his beliefs.

Uh, all of the posts above don't understand what this thread was about. Not a debate about religion, or a insult fest against the savior to billions of people. You are like rabid puppies who see a new toy and just have to chase after it.

I don't know how accurate that statement "We All" is. I think I remember reading somewhere that the majority of Americans claim Christianity.

No, when the rapture happens, all Christians will be basically teleported to heaven. So once all their friends disappear and they don't, they should be able to tell if the second coming happened

Close thread? Did you even read what the thread was about?

It's fairly obvious I meant "people who don't follow a religion". I'm not American either, rather glad of the fact considering how much religious brainwashing seems to go on over there. You think Muslims are stupid for blowing themselves up because they believe they'll be rewarded with a ton of virgins? The beliefs you adhere to don't exactly make any more sense than theirs. It's all just ancient, outdated scripture written in a time when people would believe absolutely anything you told them.

I'll look forward to it. Perhaps those of us left on Earth will get a few years free of religious oppression before the apocalypse hits. No more murdering in the name of Jesus, no more shady goings on between church officials and choir boys in the back room, maybe even a bit of acceptance for people of different races and sexualities. It sounds fantastic now you mention it.

If atheists think they're so smart, then they know religious arguments always end up badly, and rarely do they ever amount to anything.

Yet they insist to keep arguing, which is actual proof that they don't use the human intelligence you say religious people are "insulting."

That being said, there are religious and atheist fanatics, not all of them are like that.
