Hmm, it's not too tight of a budget. But I definitely don't want to buy ALL the expansions :p 8$ for core game then 3$ for the remaining five or however many aren't included is a bit pricey.

I'm trying to research a lot on this game but it's very, very confusing... It's like, the Quest wiki isn't completely filled out so that isn't ALL that useful (at least right now), apparently different people made different expansions... It's really confusing.

So if there's some massive source of Quest info that I'm missing, please let me know :p

So... It's the kind of game wherein you can't really do all the Expansions with one character?

Well at least I've got a few hours of sitting here to figure out the best way to make a good Battlemage to decide which ones I want.

I'd recommend just getting The Quest Gold if you want the difficulty curve to be where it's supposed to be. If you really enjoy it then get Cursed Chess and/or Celtic Rift if you want--heck get all the expansions, but I think the point of CC and CR is that you can start from the lowest levels and then take your character to later expansions. It's sort of like they wanted to make starting over fresh for long-time users.

On the other hand, you can just collect the sweet items in the very first few rooms of Cursed Chess and then teleport to Mithria or wherever if you just want to get some really sweet gear to make inventory and combat a little less complex as a noob. (That's how I did it.)

So, as it stands, if I played the game till level... 30, say, and then went to CC and Celtic Rift, I'd just one shot everything; that's the only downfall of it all right?

I'm a huge fan of games with a good atmosphere and story, games like Fallout, Elder Scroll series, so if the story and atmosphere is good but the challenge is low, I still really don't mind. Also love to just explore and see new things.

I don't know. I'm just finding that this series of games is really sort of, in a word, confusing.

Ah well. Thanks for all the advice!

Well, I'm sure you will enjoy The Quest then, and not regret any of your purchases, so I say go for it. But seriously, there are like 200 hours or more of gameplay just in The Quest Gold so if you're confused the best thing is just to pick that up and play for a while, ask any detailed questions about gameplay or the game world itself at Playhaven, and things will start to cohere.

In any case, enjoy your questing! I think it is still the best open world RPG for iOS, and it is obviously altogether the most expansive game series for iOS.

Christ... 30$ later I now own all the expansions + gold Ed.

Really love the game. Massive lack of information, though. Wanted to make a
True battlemage, a build I've use to great success in countless other RPGs.

Didn't realize the Rasvim can't heal. Luckily I chose alchemy to make money from selling pots so I should be able to avoid that pitfall...

Still, I wish there was some more in game way to learn about how to do stuff.
Also for a way to see enabled expansions.

In return for not being able to use heal magic, rasvim come with a free self heal spell - undead word or something, and they also get a drain hp spell if you choose undead magic as a specialty. It's worked well enough for my own undead mage. I didn't go the battlemage route, but rather, pure mage. I actually prefer healing and damaging at the same time - means I only have to keep stock of mana potions.

At Redshift's site is a manual that has a lot of information. If that doesn't help, please tell me what you would like to learn and maybe I can help. : )

We're trying to make a series of expansions that evolve from one another--for example Horde II will follow Horde I in difficulty.

Celtic Rift II will follow Celtic Rift I in difficulty and as you know there are a lot of other both low and high level expansions out there.

Maybe some day we'll get to being able to list what expansions should be playable in what order and I think some people have already made a stab at that.

But I can't do it yet as I'm always knocking out a new expansion. : ) I have enough trouble getting everything balanced to follow what came before. : )

So... The game is as dangerous as the Elder Scrolls series in terms of sucking you in and not letting you play anything else.

And I'm ONLY in Cursed Chess Set.

I've decided to make a "different" type of Battlemage but it appears that that melee damage is pretty poor early on, and using magic (even with my crappy lowish skills in them) do considerably more damage. But from what I read in the end game magic immunity is considerable with the mobs so it'll hopefully pay off.

As an aside, the STORY and lore in the game itself is fantastic. Having a degree in English I tend to get too absorbed in these types of things, and the amount of stuff to read and get lost in is pretty astonishing, even on par with the amount of stuff you'd find in Oblivion.

Which is the best forum for The Quest? Here at TA?

I'll really need some help and that later on, I know it. And it'd be nice to not be cluttering up the wrong place with oodles of ideas and questions and what not.

    Cheers

Rasvim folk get sick if they use heal potions -- if you're a Rasvim you need to drink Full Restore Unholy or Small Restore Unholy or anything labeled Rasvim to get your mojo back.

You are after all special----smelly and corpselike with putrid exhalations and all that other good stuff that can scare away the normal population-- but you're strong in other, positive, undead type things. : )

Whatever your positive qualities are I don't know as I'm a Nogur and I avoid your stinking breath. : )

Of course my best friends are Rasvim. We email each other and that way I don't have to expose myself to your undeadedness. : )

When you get to a higher level, magic casting has it's problems even though I bent over backwards to help it not be so. For the higher level expansions, melee is the best way to go. It's just the way the game engine works.

But you can craft your avatar to use both melee and magic. Both Argimon and Old Shaman whom you'll meet in the game are Rasvim battlemages. They use bows and arrows and have high melee and undead magic skills.

Thank you for the positive comments.

I have my forum where I go and then there's Crystal and a few other places. But this is a safe bet for a forum. : )

I'm thinking of doing an FAQ for our Horde II Quest expansion for iphone/ipod touch when Horde II comes out. If you can think of anything else that would be helpful for you in such an FAQ please let me know. Right now I'm only working on a complete quest FAQ--that is where you get it, who gives it, how you complete it, what you need and of course spoilers and nice graphics and background music.

Well, what I'm finding is that I'd like to know WHERE to go. I got so many quests in Cursed in a short time that it's really hard to remember where to go. For example, I did a bunch of quests in Village of Cheddar and then moved on to a Farmers place and planted some bushes... But for the life of me I have no idea which way I go to get to the Mountains or that.

Also, I'd like a list of WHERE some of the characters are. This is a problem where I have a quest to get Donations from certain characters and I can't find three of them for the life of me.
It sounds like that's some information you'll include, so that's good.

One OTHER little thing I'd like is perhaps make a SPOILERS section, where you list some items or that which you SHOULDN'T GET rid of if that's something that's important. I had some gems that I nearly sold but later found out I can use to upgrade a sword...

Although I've been questing for only three days (granted, I've racked up probably 30 hours of playtime in those three days), so these could just be greenhorn mistakes and I'll get used to them later!

The list of items you shouldn't get rid of is a good addition. : ) All the rest I've got covered.

The characters you have to get donations from are scattered about in Cursed but you did get a list:

List of patrons who pledged to donate to the Cheesemakers' Guild.

    Cfsdoc in the Wold
    Chdo in Cromm Abbey
    Demyan in City of Cheddar
DetlevH in Meadow of the Sun
    Eric1717 in the Farmland
    Ghosthunter in Iron Knob Wood
    GoldenGhost in Cromm Abbey
    MuldrzSiS in MuldrzSiS's Greenhouse
    Roland in Iron Knob Mountains
    YadDaddy in Iron Knob Mountains

    : )

Go to all those places and you should be rocking. : )

The mountains are to the far north. I'm sure you'll have a lot more questions but there are answers. : _

Wow, that's why I didn't find them all... I didn't realize some of them were so far away!

One more question and I'll lay off for the night!

Is there ANY way to tell if a monster is too high a level for you to take on? In Cursed there's some times where I can kill most things in a few hits (usually 6-7) hits. But like I was walking by the Farm house (I'm level 10 at this point) and something hit me twice and killed me

Also, I take it The Arena in Frommage is meant for very high level ?? I killed 4 of those moles but then these Lesser Giant mobs came and killed me in three hits :p

Always save your file--NOTICE YOU HAVE A NUMBER OF SAVE SLOTS--you can use the spell Detect Mind to tell what level a monster is and then move on---but if you can't see the monster you can't use Detect Mind on it.

The Arena is meant for high levels. Again, save and then go back. I always used a strategy of marking somewhere, entering a high level dungeon and then running back up a ladder to safety or recalling to safety and then going back in.

That's one thing mark and recall spells are meant for. : ) Running away has no shame as long as you go back when you're stronger. : )

As long as you have your save file you should be ok.

I think you will probably have a few more questions. : )

Hey, what's the level cap in the game?

I know skills max out at 100 (I've been saving those skill books to get them past that cap!), but what about the player level?

So far there is not really a level cap but you'll find the higher the level things start to unravel---your weapons break fast---things become a little unsettled so we're trying not to go past the level in I think it's Horde V right now---we're starting new stories that start low and then have sequels that go up like Celtic Rift. Celtic Rift II will be coming along in a few months after Horde II which follows Horde I. : )
