I really wish the guards were a little smarter and would do more than stand there esp when monsters follow you into town. Also controls are horrible you cant turn slightly but only at like 90 degree angles.

I hate the controls in this game.

Wish it had either a NORMAL dpad, and/or normal directional layouts. I find moving around to be a chore, which kills the fun.

You do realize that the game's maps are built out of squares and everything must happen on those squares, right? There is no point in other then 90 degree turns. :)

You might not like this style (although it's not that bad at all, you can get used to it pretty quickly), but the game (intentionally) follows in the footsteps of classic role playing games, like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, etc. They all work the same, this is not just the quirk of The Quest.

The guards are wimps. ;) Be a hero and dispatch those pesky monsters yourself! :)

Sorry about that. We worked a lot on the controls, there are even three kind of them. :) The default buttons, the virtual d-pad and you can even use gestures (swipe up for forward, down for backward, left/right for left/right and diagonally upward for turning). The controls received lots of testing, there isn't a much better way, unfortunatelly.

Personally I think the default buttons in portrait mode are the easiest to use, if you aren't using that layout now, give it a try for a while, I think you'll get used to it easily.

I remember when I tried the lite, I didn't like the controls either. But I wanted to get into the game, so I invested in the gold edition and made myself take another try with it. What I found was after about 20-30 minutes I was able to move around using the default controls pretty well and it was no longer a constant distraction. I sometimes have to glance at them when I play now, but for the most part I rarely have to consider them. I would assume if someone had played longer than myself (I've only put maybe 5 hours into the game total) that they become completely 2nd nature.

Anyway, I can't believe you guys are putting out yet another expansion! That's pretty amazing. Kudos to you who have put forth so much time and effort into bringing this great game to our favorite platform.

Asteroids II should be out soon. This is what one of our betatesters had to say about it--since he was not too happy about not leveling up the monsters have been tweaked so that leveling up should not be a problem--there are a few monsters that give particularly generous xp and all the monsters now give nice xp. We were trying to be conservative for future expansions--but it appears we have leeway and leveling up is still within the limits that eventually we may meet.

Am replaying the base game and full of joy at leveling up to level 11. : )

    Robert9001's comments:
"My overall comments ... Not related to bugs or problems ... Just the flavor of the expansion ...

    Item first ...
I like the way the quests are interlinked with the story line. I have played all the games and expansion available for iPhone iPad and I like this one the best and will not only enable the expansion for my Uber character but will also play it as a stand alone

    Item second ...
I love enchanted equipment and this expansion has some of the best I have come across ... So paint me HAPPY ...

    Item third ...
I also like the way the expansion highlights skills and attributes that have "faded" in the past ... By that I mean ... You need to be more than a killing machine ...

    Item fourth ...
At first I was surprised about not being able to level up and was disappointed ... But after further play I find that this is no problem at all as this is related to item third above ...

    Item fifth ...
The difficulty of some of the quests is pretty high ... Example ... I don't think many new players will realize the mark and recall required to get the ice crystal from the column ... This is not a bad thing but it will result in a lot of forum questions on how to do some quests ...

    Item last ...
I think you have a winner here ... By far my favorite expansion to date. Thanks for letting me test drive. Hope to be given the opportunity again sometime in the future."

    : )

We thank him for his comments and hope you will enjoy it. : )

We're hoping to have HOLV out for the holidays with a really ingenious dungeon by Argimon.

The guards are useless though, why even have them here? It just makes them unrealistic as the game is compared to stuff like elder scrolls.

Well, this is not an Elder Scrolls game. :) I don't think games should necessary be like other games in every detail. I had no part in designing the Quest (I was originally only responsible for the 2D/3D graphics engine), but I think the guards are mainly there to catch you, after you've commited crimes and try to sneak past them.

And, personally, I never ever relied on the guards to help me defeat monsters in either Morrowind or Oblivion, so it's not that important even in those games. :)

I don't see where they are unrealistic. They're guards. They do their job. : ) If you've committed a crime, they catch you and give you a chance to work off your crime or be put in jail--playing through from the beginning with just a little bit of gold, I found it really hard to pay them off with my hard-won card winnings and I really didn't want to go to jail. But I paid them off cause I wanted to move on.

I think they have their place. Otherwise why have the game add to your crime when you steal from doors and windows or innocent players?

How else are you going to get sent to jail? I'm curious to know.

I'm a saint normally but I got some crime added when I inadvertently hit a villager when trying to kill a monster so---I think the guards have a place. : ) They nabbed me. I thought that was pretty realistic. : )

I am about to finish the main quest and am thinking about getting the fire and ice expansion. The only problem is, I picked some bad main skills at the beginning and I want new ones. Is there any chance to choose new main skills or will I have to start a new character in fire and ice if I want to change anything?

You can't change the main skills after you've created a character. You can start a new character in the expansion app, but you can't go back to the main game areas playing in the expansion app. However, if you want, you can transfer save files using the File Sharing option in iTunes (if you have iOS 4.x and iTunes 9.1 or newer).

    Random Favor

I'm getting an iPad for Christmas and I'm obviously going to transfer "The Quest" on there once I get it.

Out of curiosity, does anyone play the Quest on the iPad? If so, how does it look upscaled?

It would really help if someone could post a screenshot!

    Thanks in advance ;)

I have some testers playing the Quest on the ipad. You could pm or post in a thread at my website. Robert9001 and Michele Laconto are testing on ipad and they are loathe to test on iphone. : ) They are very happy on the ipad.

The Quest is not maximized for ipad but it appears to work so well on it as is that they prefer to test the new expansions on ipad.

The ipad of course has a lot more power than the iphone.
