Depending on the age of your kid, I would a little carefull. Their eyes are changing fairly rapidly up to around age 16 or so, and generally are fairly stable after about age 25. I would do some reading on VR and children's vision. My ophthalmology friends say young (under about age 12) children should not be watching 3D movies with the glasses, although long term effects are not known. They are just conservative. OTOH, I am looking forward to at least trying VR although I dont think I will ever embrace it. Too old, too set in my ways.
If VR were cheaper I'd be all over it, it's not something I'd want to do all the time but it is cool. Just not economical and games are a bit iffy.
The kid in question is 15 (though we also have a 13 year old, to be 14 later this year). But no we're not buying this right away. Don't have the funds. But now that I've tried it I think I would get it once the price drops. At least it's a lot cheaper then the PC options (especially since we don't have a capable PC).
Hawken is terrible on PS4 (and Xbox One), low stuttery framerate, really surprised it made it through QA it's that bad. Save yourself the download.
I didn't find the framerate terrible (I was playing on Xbox one), it just wasn't fun. Titanfall is WAY better.
Yeah Xbox One doesn't have the terrible stutter but also doesn't have vsync enabled so screen tear is pretty unplayable too. Overall it's just bad porting on both consoles. I didn't enjoy Titanfall either, but feeling on the mechs is a lot better. Both games are pretty shallow but Titanfall does have a bit more guts due to not being a F2P title, but only just.
Amazon Spain briefly listed a new PS4 model for 399 euros due out in October, then removed the listing: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1246920 Some are wondering if it's Neo, but I think it's more likely a PS4 with a 2 TB drive or something like that. Maybe a slim model with 4k output for video at most, like the Xbox One S. But who knows?
Flash sale going on this weekend. Destiny : The Taken King Legendary on sale at $25. Is this a good single player, non internet connected game? I loved the first HALO games put out by Bungie, but then then became multi-player centric and I lost interest. I know that Destiny has a single player story mode - but is it good? Are the expansions merely multiplayer enhancements? I saw earlier that some people were looking at Evolve - the flash sale looks like some good prices on several different purchasing models. It looks like that game is mostly an on-line type of co-op game though. Also, Helldiver has some things in there and a few Indy titles people might be interested in. Crimsonland is less than $3.
Don't bother with Evolve. A free to play edition is coming out on consoles. I think Crimsonland is worth at LEAST $3. Sadly, I dropped my playthrough of Destiny in the beginning of the year so I'm not much help there. So far I got: Assault Android Cactus - hearing good things about it and looks fun. Metro Redux - Be sure to purchase "Metro Redux". It includes Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light. Single player focused games by the way.
So I got really into Destiny a couple months ago after a flash sale on TK even though my friends had moved on. Anyway I played pretty much always on my own and I enjoyed it a great deal. I was a big fan of the original Halo also and probably also the second one, playing Destiny TK felt reminiscent of them which I liked a lot. That said, the longevity after the story stuff is over is sorely hurt if playing on your own. You can freely join up with others but that isn't very ideal or fun in my opinion. It's mostly the raids and optional story stuff that requires help. For $25 it's totally worth it tho, just know it's only online gameplay, it being an mmo.
To add but not repeating what's been said for Destiny, Internet connection is required and you will see others playing regardless. As a shooter it feels good and has that whole loot thing of Diablo and Borderlands going for it, just don't expect much from the story telling. As a franchise if you don't keep up with the expansions you tend to lose out on content you already had access too. Year one become pretty useless without the Taken King. Overall good fun though and addicting. Evolve is a load of carp, and has been made even worse with the F2P shift with lesser content even if you have paid for it. Even without that it was a failed experiment as a game, nice concept, boring in practice.
I have a friend who was gung-ho about Evolve for a long time but not sure what he thinks of it now that it's going to go F2P. Going that way on PC, though, has apparently resulted in a huge increase in the player base. Either way, don't buy it now since soon it will be F2P on consoles too. Either that or if it fails on PC they'll probably just shut down the servers.
Been trying out Dex. It really reminds me of a Shadowrun game. The whole cyberpunk deal with mega corporations running everything. The story seems similar to the matrix movies and is fully voice acted. It's a 2D open-world action rpg stealth hacker game where you approach things as you like which I'm a big fan of. Anyway just thought I'd mention it here since I never heard of it and there aren't any videos or screens on PSN. PS I forgot to say that I've been enjoying it very much so far, an hour or two in.
I got GOW 3 during the flash sale. Excellent game with great graphics. Finished it a couple days later. Unfortunately my wife walked in while one of the Aphrodite "sex mini-game" was happening. The improved graphics made it look like a porn movie. Not something she was happy with.

Annoyed that we didn't get Mutant Mudds Deluxe on the EU store but at least we get Mutant Mudds: Super Challenge, out today for PS4/Vita.
Anybody else getting No Man's Sky? I have the LE coming to me from Amazon tomorrow, but I'm probably not going to get to play until Wednesday.
Yep! I've had my digital version downloaded to my PS4 for a couple days now. So right now I'm just waiting for it to get 'unlocked' in 12 hours from now, and play it!
