Just got Saints Row the Third. Awesome, childish, perverted (both in the same sentence?) fun. I haven't spent enough time with it to tell if it's a step up from SR2 yet, but I'm loving it so far and my stats suggest it'll last me over 20 hours minimum. A lot of reviews were claiming sub-20-hour marks, but if you ask me they've forgotten what the term "sandbox" means. There's so much more fun to be had outside of checking lists and collecting items that it should inflate the play length significantly for most gamers.
Just got new Assassins Creed for my birthday. Really good so far, and includes the whole first game on same disc as well as a bonus! On a side note - when I go from TV to HDMI channel, a small pop-up says '720p' in the corner... And it always has done this. How can I get it to full 1080? All my ps3 settings are set to 1080 and I do use an HDMI cable... But still not full!
I don't think AC: Revelations supports 1080p, it should say on the back of the box. If the game supports 1080p and it doesn't automatically go into 1080p then you can force it by going to: Display Settings > Video Output Settings > HDMI > Custom > Uncheck the 720p box leaving 576p and 1080p checked.
You might also want to check out the God of War trilogy. It's a lot less subtle than either Uncharted or Batman, but all three games in the series are ridiculous amounts fun, not to mention absolutely epic in scale.
I'll throw one in there: Infamous 2. The first game bored the life out of me, but the sequel was amazing.
Infamous 2 was great, surprised it didn't get noticed more, though. I've been playing Uncharted 3, and all I can say is, it's an epic game. Finished the campaign, just need to get into the multiplayer, only played a little bit (not counting the beta).
Jumping back into console gaming after a somewhat long hiatus. I FINALLY played and beat Uncharted: Drake's Fortune this week. Wow what a specular experience. I plan to play both Uncharted 2 and 3 as soon as possible. I'm also about to jump into the original Assassin's Creed for the first time. All this talk of the new game makes me want to jump into the series. Finally, any PS3 people on here playing Skyrim? If so, how bad are the lockups/glitches after your save file gets big? I had HUGE issues with Fallout 3 GOTY edition on the PS3. I can't decide if I'm going to get Skyrim on the PS3 or 360 (I can't afford a gaming PC at the moment).
If you do go for AC, buy Revelations (newest one) first because it includes the full first game and also a code to get the 2nd and 3rd at 30% cheaper
The first Assassin's Creed is a polished turd. Somewhat pretty, but boring as hell and massively repetitive. The sequel fixed nearly all of the issues I had, and it shows because Ubisoft no doubt decided they'd do a CoD and keep every game thereon as similar as possible... hence Brotherhood and Revelations being less interesting than AC2.
@drez - I agree with Midian - skip the first one -very difficult to play - For instance - every time you run - you get noticed and then get chased. So, you have to walk everywhere, blend in all the time - it really gets old... The second one allows you a lot more latitude - -once you get to certain levels within the game, you can more with almost complete freedom. It makes for a much better experience. If you want another great "series" - the 2 Batman games are both superlative IMO.
I now know what it means to "pull an Uncharted". Am I the only one that found that sequence scary as hell? Navigating those narrow hallways lined with pipes by the light of one flashlight? So well done.
I beat Uncharted! I'll probably begin Arkham Asylum later today. I <3 my PS3 a little too much. And yes, I did just use "less than three".
God of War are very good, but there is a lot of gratuitous blood and brutality. In a much more lighthearted vein, I enjoyed the Lego Star Wars game, gets repetitive after a while, but lots of power ups to collect, and has some nice puzzle elements. Since you seem to enjoy adventure types - consider the Prince of Persia games, perhaps Star Wars : The Force Unleashed (although there are big camera issues, if you can get it $10 it's worth it), Mass Effect (more RPGish), or the Ratchet and Clank games.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll likely be stopping by Gamestop in the next week or so to pick up some more used games, so I'll look into these. I've heard some good things about Ratchet and Clank from a friend of mine. EDIT: I ended playing an hour of Arkham Asylum; it's fantastic.
If you want some lighthearted, almost cartoon-like violence without any real gore, Just Cause 2 is insane fun, and probably the most beautiful open world game you've played to date.
Ah, I was just recommended that game yesterday by my buddy. I'll make a mental note of it for when I stop at Gamestop this week.
Some great sales on PSN in the next few days. I believe Limbo is at $10.99 and Outland is at either $7 or $8... about 30 % off what they normally go for... I'm in for both!
Those two look pretty tempting to me as well. Now I just need to actually create a PSN account... I've got a question to anyone who has played all of the Uncharted games. Is it even worth it to play Uncharted 2's multiplayer, or should I go straight to Drake's Deception after completing Among Thieves' campaign? Does Drake's Deception have some of Uncharted 2's best multiplayer maps? On a side note, I will likely play the co-op in both regardless. Thanks in advance!
