We definitely needed to know that.

Looking forward to E3 and hearing some Uncharted news. Microsoft and Sony both need to pull something out of the wastebasket that was last year's event.

The VGA's were better for announcements... sadly. Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, Bioshock: Infinite, and Skyrim are all of the games I'm looking forward to

Anyone getting Operation Flashpoint: Red River? I've just won a copy. I played Dragon Rising a bit and found it hard to get into, but I'm really quite digging the idea of a more sim-like experience. I'm expecting it to be really difficult so if anyone knows the series well and has a few pointers for me...

Yeah, I'm planning on getting it when I'm done with TDU2 and HAWX 2. I'm glad to hear you're finding it hard, I feared it would be too dumbed down.

I've played quite a lot of dragon rising. I don't know how Red River compares, but my best advice is to take it slow and make good use of cover. Never rush out into the open, and only move out of cover when you're sure that no baddies are left. If you get shot, move to the nearest cover and patch yourself up asap. Unless you're in close quarter combat, use semi-auto or burst fire modes because it'll be more accurate. If you find yourself pinned down, order your fireteam to supress the enemies' position which will give you the chance to flank them or move out of cover to take them out. Sorry if any of this sounds obvious to you, but the best thing to do is to put yourself in your characters position and do whatever you would do if you were there in real life. Some firefights may last a while, but it's usually safest to take it slow and be overly cautious.

To clarify, I haven't played Red River yet, it just got posted today. I only played a bit of Dragon Rising about a year ago so I don't know how much this one has been dumbed down. I think the Eurogamer review (might have been IGN) said it was still incredibly tense on hardcore mode so hopefully there's something there for everyone.

Part of my problem with Dragon Rising was that I didn't know what to do. I was thrown into a field and told to go somewhere... then I got lost. Then I got attacked, then I encountered a glitch with an enemy that wouldn't move and couldn't be killed. That's about as far as I got, but I'm definitely giving this one more of a chance.

Oh, and I'm gonna wear my hat, sweatband and t-shirt while I play ;)

Ah, right. It shouldn't be too difficult on the easiest mode. From the gameplay videos I've seen, it looks like you're given more guidance with objectives. It looks as though the maps are less open and more urban with buildings villages. I've never had any major glitches with dragon rising, maybe I was just lucky, hopefully there won't be any major glitches in red river.

Man, Portal 2 is amazing. As soon as PSN is back up I can get the Steam version as well. Spoilers below where I'm gonna talk about the ending.

Man, that could be the best ending of all time. The shooting a portal to the moon was just plain ingenious, nobody but Valve could have thought of that. Then the actual ending where you go up to the surface, that was epic, going into a wheat field (Wheatley ;)). The ending song is a helluva lot better than the last one. My prediction for the next game is Chell ends up returning for some reason.

I didn't like the song much, the tune was decent but the lyrics were bland and lacked humour. The ending was pretty cool though.

I actually loved the ending song. I think it's much more appropriate than Still Alive was.

Still Alive was out of character, and it was blatantly false (GLaDOS was not still alive, she was deactivated). This is as a result of the song being written by a man who had not actually played the completed game, only seen bits and pieces of it. Don't get me wrong, the song was fantastic, funny and cute, but it simply felt ancillary to me. Want You Gone was much more tightly integrated in the game creation process, and as a result fits the character and the situation at the end of the game much better, it's a perfect expression of the conflicting "emotions" that GLaDOS is experiencing after her ordeals in the game.

but then again, how could they possibly top Still Alive? I don't know if it's possible. But that was pretty awesome. Can't wait for the free DLC!

That's true, it did fit the plotline better, but that's probably why I felt it lacked humour. It's obviously easier to write lyrics when you have creative freedom rather than trying to wrap them around an existing story.

Umm, no, GLaDOS was still alive at the end of Portal. Something obviously must have happened between games where she got shut down or shut herself down.

Uhm no, she keeps repeating in the second game that Chell kills her.
Didn't you throw all her parts into the incinerator at the end of the first game?

PSN will be back in the next few days. I think Monday. We all get one free pre-determined download and a free month of PSN+.

Nope. She says herself in Portal 2 that she was "dead" and that all she could do was view her "black box" allowing her to relive you killing her for centuries. I hardly count that as being "Still Alive" and gloating about it, as the song indicates.

    Spoiler tags, use them.

Kotaku and IGN both confirmed it. Either Monday or Tuesday we should get online play back, with other features (Like the PSN Store) coming back sometime later this month.

I've bee playing Operation Flashpoint: Red River for a couple days now and I'm enjoying it. It feels quite different from Dragon Rising, less open and close range combat. The difficulty level hasn't been decreased, in fact I find it harder than Dragon Rising, especially on Hardcore mode. My only real complaint so far is that the friendly AI can be kinda dumb and make stupid decisions like running out of cover and getting wounded/killed. At times I feel like a babysitter rather than a fireteam leader. The FTE missions are good fun. I just played CSAR and ended up legging it about a kilometer to get to the extraction zone with the PLA on my tail. I only just made it in time and felt very satisfied when I finally reached the EZ and got into the helicopter with all my team still alive. I haven't tried the co-op due to PSN being down, but I expect it'll be good.
