Aha, found it on simplygames.com. Is it worth missing out on the pre-order bonus to get the game a week early?

No Porsches, but are 4 Ruf models which are very similar.

    RUF RGT 88
    RUF Rturbo 89
    RUF Rt 12 90
    RUF RK Spyder

I managed to get it early because I cancelled my Amazon pre-order and bought it from here for £5 cheaper, although it doesn't include DLC. Yes, I'll have to pay one or two quid more to get the DLC than what I would've payed for the complete package at Amazon, but I think getting it early is worth paying a bit extra.

The sense of freedom is definitely as good as I was expecting, if not better. Ibiza looks gorgeous and feels pretty varied with nice coastal roads, conifer forests, fields, and a semi-desert area. As well as the cities/towns, there are some nice little rural villages with plenty of character. And Oahu is also included which I think is bigger and apparently it's been remodelled with updated graphics and extra roads (although I have yet to unlock it).

Ibiza is the starting island isn't it? Oahu is the island from the first game and it's included in TDU2, you need to level up enough and then you can take a plane back and forth.

Correct. Ibiza feels big, but I'm pretty sure Oahu is bigger.

If anyone is interested, there are some good gameplay videos by this guy on youtube.

So the handling is decent then? I'm not expecting realism but there was a lot of criticism about the way it looked too twitchy. Is it easy to pull off impressive drifts?

The handling feels ok to me. It was a bit hard to control my car at first (especially on hardcore mode), but now I have good control over my little Lancia Delta. The steering feels good, even with the standard PS3 controller (I don't have a wheel), and the sensitivity, dead zone etc can be tweaked in the settings. Drifting is possible, but not easy. From the times I've attempted it so far I've either lost control or been slowed down. It doesn't feel like the game is made for drifting, although maybe some cars will be good for drifting, after all I've only driven like 4 out of the 100 + cars available.

Sweet. I'm watching those videos now. I hope my copy is dispatched tomorrow.

Another question (this is what you get playing the game 9 days early :p): any idea if the pre-order cars are totally impossible to get via another method? I was hoping maybe they'd still be in the game but difficult to acquire or something, or perhaps slightly different versions of the same cars.

I heard that the pre-order cars will be available as DLC after 60 days from the game's release. And as you guessed, many of the pre-order cars are slightly different models to the regular model that you get with the game.
For example if you pre-order with GAME, you get a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, a long with the 4 other Bugatti Veyron models that are included in the game as standard.

btw, if you ordered from simplygames today then you should get it on Saturday. I ordered mine on Tuesday, I had an e-mail yesterday saying it had been dispatched (1st class Royal Mail) and it arrived today.

Yeah, I ordered today about 5pm. The order status says "Authorised" so I assume that means the payment went though. I'm fairly confident they'll send it tomorrow but not quite so confident Royal Mail will get it to me within 24 hours. Fingers crossed.

I'm still watching those videos, it looks beautiful when the road is wet and the sun's going down. I haven't seen any full-screen shots yet though, hopefully it still looks great and jaggies/tearing aren't a problem.

Curse you for getting me all psyched up already. I wasn't expecting this for 7 days yet!

One more question, how are the physics in the game? I think I saw a beta video where a lamppost put a stop to his car and that would suck if it was a race.

On the YouTube videos I'm watching the guy has driven through a few signposts, perhaps full size lampposts are different though... there are a few games that let you smash smaller posts but stop when it comes to those.

All sign posts can be knocked over, but they'll slow you down a bit. Bigger objects such as lamposts, telephone poles, trees etc can't be knocked down but they are usually placed a good distance to the side of the road, so avoiding them is easy.

edit - found a good review.

    No problem ;)

I just have one favour to ask in return. Could you try playing offline and see if the weather is always sunny (with no clouds, rain, storms etc) and the weather forecast (on the TV) is always showing sunny weather too.

I think it's probably a bug that hasn't been fixed/patched due to the game not being officially released yet, but I just want to make sure that it's not just affecting me.

Yeah, will do. I read a few comments about that on YouTube last night, some people seem to think the server dictates time/weather to keep everyone in sync so it may be related to that.

I tried playing it last night but it wouldn't connect to servers.
Really looking forward to trying online
