This has been the most frustrating experience I have ever had playing ios games.

I adore everything about it, the sound, graphics, level styles, power ups...

The controls, however, make me want to cry. Literally. :(

Just horrible. Grabbing chains is impossible.

Hmmm, still mixed opinions about the controls, eh?

Only way to find out is to buy and play it myself! :D

The controls take a few minutes of getting used to, yeah, but given the rest of this game, it's still a no brainer buy.

    5/10 from PocketGamer http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/ip_review.asp?c=49851&see=all#body

Confirms all the things I was thinking I wouldn't like about the game to be true. I'm gonna pass on this until some serious changes are made.

Oh well first reviews landed and Pocket Gamer gave it a 5/10 with "Woudn't bother" and "messy controls" comments. In my opinion, reviewing game so early with obvious fatal d-pad problems to most people is just not "polite" , even developer has admitted this mistake and is working on fast update and PG rarely updates their reviews if I'm right.
I hope others review sites will be more lenient and not review game in current state which might harm overall sales, would be damn shame for developers.

It's nice to know that after it's been repeated half a million times that...

A FIXED D-PAD WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN AN UPCOMING UPDATE

...this thread is still nothing but people complaining about the D-pad.

So people aren't allowed to express their opinion about the game in the thread for the game?

    How are the controls?

Early reviews are the norm and less of an issue with playtesting. Looks great but there's weirdness all over the place. Those knife powerups are useless as they don't seem to be able to hit enemies sometimes and the powerups is drained so fast.

Oh and I didn't mention the abysmal controls.

Yes but people should read the thread before complaining.

    I think most did.

This doesn't change the fact that I should be able to express what I think about the game.

Yeah i hope they do an update to their review, i know one site does (Think its Slide2play). Catch 22, you have to give some blame to the devs for releasing it like that but on the other hand top marks for them for hopefully creating a quick update. Hope Pocket Gamer update their review after the update though.

Thing is i wouldnt blame the review sites that much, in a way it should have gone through more QA/beta testing. Still think asking 'proper users' on forums is way better to get a perspective of standard users.

Just as we're moaning about the controls i'll be the first to totally praise it once the update comes along.

Hmmm... now the dilemma (which I guess was predicted at the start of the thread), throw my $1 at this now and assume the dev's update will fix the control issues that most (not all, but most) people seem to be having ... or wait for the fix and buy then? I know they said they will fix the issue, but will the fix be good or bad? I don't assume it will be either... but just will have to wait and see how it turns out.

I think I'll hold off on the purchase today... but I'm not giving up hope.

A free tip to devs out there, if your testers are having issues with the controls at first play and an explanation gets them on the right track so you don't do anything about it, then at release there will be a storm of negativity for the same reason. An explanation won't work as well as just dialing it in to be super intuitive from the start. Sometimes as good of an idea as you may think something is, it isn't always a perfect fit for everyone. Just food for thought because right now people should be posting all kind of great things about the game and it's awesome artstyle and the exploration needed to finish levels and how great that is. Instead it's like game testers round 2, public paid edition.

Still, I think this game will redeem itself in time.

Someone mentioned it before, but there is smaller stuff that is also bothering me : I don't know about power up variety as I'm currently on Lv 4 , but wrenches , as much as they look nice , are useless because there just isn't enough time to use power up efficiently ( especially if you hop down from a higher platform after picking power up, until you land more than half of its time is gone), and their "firing ark" is too high, making hitting enemies that are near impossible, they just fly over them. Also I'm probably bad at game, but that mobster enemy that swings and punches into air always cost me 1 life, he is just too unpredictable, if I want to jump on him he can counter it with air punch and if I want to run past him I got 50/ 50 chance that he will either jump or start running towards me, and he does that only when I'm very near so I don't have time to react :p

The game seems relatively short so far, I believe that I counted seven levels plus a slide indicating upcoming Free DLC, i.e. more levels. However, the levels themselves are large and sprawling offering multiple paths and hidden areas. This characteristic, plus the generous difficulty level, and star based unlockable character, create a substantial replay value while we wait for more levels.

Can't really understand the control issues people are having - I've found them well thought out and the game very easy to control. Loving the whole experience so far...

You are probable not bad at the game, I think that the game just may have a moderate level of difficulty. I also think that having enemies that are not simple and lifeless, that require some practice to deal with efficiently, works in the game's favor. As Ravenous' games have demonstrated, many people are turned off by 10 second levels that offer little challenge to the player.

Loving the graphics and the charm of the game, in fact loving everything except for the retarded d pad!! If they fix that it would be an easy recommendation to any platforming fan (i found that it has pretty good replay value, well worth 89 cents)

I don't know how long you think review sites should wait to review a game? They didn't review a beta version, they reviewed the product that the devs released. It's great that they are going to fix the control issues, but you can't say it's unfair for a review site to review the product in the state it was officially released. Most people want to know right away if a game is worth their money.
