I wrote a review the other day, nothing too special but if you want to read it...here it is! It's my first post on a new blog where I plan to review iOS games/other geeky stuff. http://aponions.tumblr.com/post/47761424987/review-of-the-other-brothers-for-ios
It was a new released game that was pretty well hyped by TA. They reviewed it as it was which really I can't hold it against them for that since most people need to know at launch when it hits what they are getting if they throw their $1 or so down. But that's the past and dwelling on it shouldn't be as big a deal as learning from it and doing a much better job of testing in the future.
I'm still playing this and it's been out for a few weeks now - played it on iPhone, iPad, thru Apple TV Mirroring and I ordered an 8 Bitty Controller a few days ago so going to play it again when that arrives... Very well crafted game in my opinion. Does anyone feel like they are playing an old Earth Worm Jim game on some levels? love it! Can't wait for Chapter 2! planck
Oh, I thought we were talking about an initial review that blasted the game. I'll go read it now and get informed. EDIT: Wow. It's like the game came out and they went into a bubble to play it and only emerge with the completed review. It's a fair review for that version, but sort of wayyyy late considering the update fixed a lot of what they complained about. Granted the controls still aren't perfect, but they are eons ahead of where they were at launch.
I gave the game a second chance and dusted off my iCade (who knew it could gather so much dust??), and even though it's a lot smoother with the iCade, I still quit in disgust after failing level 5 for the 3rd time, I just couldn't tolerate having to restart. Simply by adding an "easy" difficulty with infinite lives would solve this. Oh and having to jump on enemies multiple times and having them react in a seemingly random manner is still not much fun either. But mainly it doesn't make sense to me having to restart those huge levels.
Tried even more after my previous issues to give it fair shot and the controls STILL don't work out for me I guess they intented icade controls all along.
Yeah, option C is the way to go.... plus having the dpad as large as possible helps too. If it had diagonals, I think option c would be close to perfect.
I like this game but I really want to love it but for now just can't. I've tried the new controls but they are just not tight enough yet as I keep falling off the ladders and ropes. Games got potential though however I'll delete and wait on an update.
I haven't yet found an iOS platform game with fixed dpad which does diagonal climbing for moving/large areas where you have to climb sideways as well. I've seen it for other game styles where it's non critical like top down, where a tiny movement error doesn't matter. But I haven't seen it for platformers where you can climb any direction as well as typical platforming yet. So during testing, I noticed it was infinitely safer to just lock the axis to either horizontal or vertical for climbing. I have seen games where there's only an up/down ladder though, but not ladder soups. Thoughts?
Yeah, I think Spy Corp would be the closest thing, but it doesn't do left/right movement on ladders... Pretty sure this is the first **does Jazz allow left/right movement on ladders? I can't remember...
Are you talking about Trump's Journey? I don't think so. The Y axis buttons are independent from the X axis and they appear only when you're using the ladders, so I guess not. (By the way, take a look at that game, devs. I'm not sure if something like that would work well for TOB, but it's something to study.)
Yeah, I meant Jazz: Trump's Journey. And I know that the buttons only appear when you're using them, but are you able to move left and right after you 'attach' to the ladders?
I stopped playing any console games, and focusing all my strength on beating this game! Controller: Nyko PlayPad Pro
I played it long ago, but I think that once you're attached to them you can only jump to left/right but not move left/right if you don't press the jump button.
Thanks, yeah - I'll need to re-install it when I get home. But you guys might want to take a look at Jazz: Trumps Journey. If nothing else, it's a decent platformer worth playing. =oP **edit** ah... gotcha - thanks Shaker. =o)
