Same! This may be a stupid question, but is iCade support included? I highly doubt it, but I can still hope!
No no, keep going. We need more straight talkers around here. Not enough logic in this forum currently. People appreciate blunt honesty, even developers.
Question for everyone, would you "really" be willing to pay for IAP in the game for levels past chapter 3? I ask this because of all the "insta buy" people that talk a good game then sit around waiting for the game to go on sale or free. I like good games and I appreciate Devs that cater to their consumers. If anyone has ever noticed I always have a link in my signature for a game called Ravenmark, I love this game I really love the guys behind it and I know how long and hard they worked (mostly without pay) to create a fantastic title, only to have people attack them about having to eventually charge for some later content that they said would be free. I bring this up to say " we" the consumers will never truly now the sacrifices that "they" the Devs have gone through to bring us that $.99+ game. It's easy for us to sit back and call them greedy or lazy, cause as far as we can tell making a game takes no time at all and is not a real job just a hobby To the Devs I say thanks, thanks for answering our questions, for engaging us with conversation and basically for acknowledging us since we know that you don't have to. And lastly I say that in the next update you should include a tip jar option for those who claim that they would have spent more for this game cause its just so great. Not an IAP nope,a tip jar that true fans can give $.99 or up to $4.99 at a time in support and also to ensure that we see more great things from you guys in the future.
For all the crap that's gone down in this thread, there are a few people I'm really starting to respect. Where are you guys when I'm trying to argue a case for a developer or game?
Voted for TOB even though I mostly get frustrated by game difficulty, but even with that in mind, still a game that I like coming back to and play ( probably even more when updates hit ).
Word. I have no idea how they stayed so chilled in the face of one of the worst outbreaks of Auttitlitis in recent memory
Well all of them kept their cool other than Reticule, but I respect him for just sayin' stuff how it is.
Ret's a freelance musician and is not actually representative of anyone except himself (and that's how he likes it)
The ultimate payment model I like that. I think a game should: 1. Be free, as in free beer. 2. Have small IAPs to unlock options with no direct in-game effects. Like unlocking all levels, all cars, all avatars, all hats; but nothing that affects multiplayer results. 3. Have a larger IAP to unlock the entire game; basically convert the entire game from freemium to a regular pay-to-play game. 4. Include the tip jar to simply thanks the devs; pay what you want. It unlocks a small token for fans only; the token of dev appreciation. Comments?
The part I don't like is when EA reps read point 1 and then jumble the words of point 2 around until they've ruined a perfectly good game. Other than that it's not so bad.
This is the kind of thing that makes me want to buy an iCade. Just the 8-bitty remote, really. Edit: awkward, pic doesn't show in the quote
Re iCade: I hope it works. I had to code it blind as I don't have the device. I used Simul80 as suggested earlier in this thread but it was rather crash prone and difficult to use. The only problem I forsee is that some of the buttons may lead to unexpected jumping, but I doubt it. 8 Bitty mapping seems a little odd too and documentation borders on awful. I gave it my best stab and will continue to refine and improve it (if it needs it) but the general mapping is (J) = Jump (S) = special: (S) (J) (S) (-) (S) (J) (S) (-) ignoring the far right buttons. At least this is what I hope will happen, as then people can choose the pairing easily, ie special on left, jump on right, or opposite. 8 Bitty may require throwing button to be a shoulder button, I can't tell at this point. Will improve and revise for you as soon as I am able to get the hardware if it needs it There are no options for iCade yet, as it will auto detect it and just work, plus serious time pressure to get the update to you guys ASAP. Finally, when iCade input is detected, it should hide the onscreen dpad and buttons, and whenever a touch is detected, bring them back. In addition, here is the screenshot of the revamped options screen via controls button from main options screen for those who have missed it: http://i.imgur.com/igDMsf3.png An explanation of the Type option: A is analogue, and exactly the same as now but with a new nipple style analogue input. It still contains velocity compensation. B is a hybrid: it uses the digital dpad you see, but is still analogue at heart, but will not move. Finally, C is fixed digital, and suits people who love to tappy tap tap. This option does not support diagonal, but hybrid does and hybrid can work just as well in this case. The size slider will allow you to scale things independently, and you can position buttons or dpad wherever you please. This update was submitted 3 days ago (my time zone) and it is up to Apple to approve it
Wow what an asinine comment; this game is nothing like Mario. The only similarity is that they both belong to the 2D platformer genre. I agree with the Earthworm Jim comparison as other posters have identified, but the similarities really only go as deep as the organic platform design and junkyard theme. That's the problem with iOS devices bringing gaming to the masses; it has opened up devs to this sort of uneducated criticism. In my opinion some aspects of the game are flawed, but it is a credit to the devs that they remain calm in the face of a disproportionate backlash to those flaws. There are clearly a lot of people who are enjoying this game, so I'm willing to concede that my issues with the controls are most likely just a matter of personal preference rather than the devs getting it objectively wrong. (All of these concerns will be fixed in the upcoming patch) If only for the lengths that the guys went to engage the players on this forum, and take on board their concerns, I will always buy a Simian Squared game on day dot.
No, I kick YOURS with my Dan antics. I'm already taunting before you've landed, dear brother. I missed this when you posted it!
Every dev team needs a Ret. They are a separate entity. Associated but fringe. Formal when appropriate yet not afraid to cut people when provoked
