Great game, loving it. The controls are actually really good after you learn not to take your finger off it. It was total crap until i realized this.

Jumped on the 'buy' button as soon as you said this. Very few devs nowerdays seem to be as open as you are, so for that I thank you.

To the devs: Please consider an "easy" mode where you have infinite lives and I would also think it should have a one stomp kill. As is, I failed the 3rd level twice now and have no intention of getting back into the action. So frustrated by having to start over. And level 2 which I did complete, after failing it once, I just rushed through it with as little exploration as possible and avoiding battles. I don't think this was how the game was intended to play. I'm sure there are more people like me.

Oh please jump sounds are sorely needed.
And thanks for hearing us and offering new control schemes, I hope the websites that already reviewed the game take a look and consider the update!

I've got faith TA will look at it again on their terms since they seem to like it bar the controls :) Hope so!

    I'm one of them, too.

Though i'm not having a problem with the default control, i really can't
figure out the patterns of this strong boss, not at all !

Other than that, this game does not deserve a one star rating.
    For sure not.

Please don't change the life system from the pigeons you have now, it's so original and besides you're not those brothers you're the other ones.

Don't remove the timer it adds a sense of urgency otherwise gamers would be lazy, how about adding another 100 to the clock for the slower kids

Also don't change the enemies to a one stomp kill for all of them, their uniqueness make the game rock

I fear trying to make a group of people happy will in the end alienate those people that love the games the way it is now.

agreed... and this happens quite a bit in the AppStore. I can't tell you how many games I absolutely loved were ruined because of 'player feedback'

Thanks for your input Dreadnok. We do not plan on changing any current game mechanics so don't worry :)

That is why I suggested an "easy" mode with infinite lives, so the "hardcore" bunch can enjoy the game as is now. For myself, and my friends as well, this masochstic punishment is simply too frustrating. Btw, I did enjoy Super Meat Boy and League of Evil, the main difference was that the levels there were very short. In TOB having to restart a level after failing is just too painful due to each level being quite huge, and is beyond my tolerance level. In any case, having an "easy" and "hardcore" modes is not unheard of in gaming. It keeps both crowds happy. You could set that "easy" nets less points and so impossible to earn 3 stars. Anyway, I've made my point, I will try not to bother you again with this :)
(P.S. Somic had coins which acted exactly like the pigeons. It's not original at all really.)

    Hi guys!

Regarding the difficulty, have you tried prioritising collecting the pigeons that fly away from you when you are hit?

I think most of the difficulty will be because you aren't happy with the controls. I hear you and this is something that will be dramatically improved. In addition to this we are boosting the powerups a little bit.

Like an MMO, it's a fine balance to get difficulty right. Nerfing should be a last resort because it will upset many other players. So the best plan is to first see if we can improve how well you play with the controls, and perhaps make powerups a little more beefy!

If after this update you feel it is still too difficult please tweet us and let us know, and we will think about other options.

Thank you for the great feedback btw, really enjoy reading all your comments guys!

Can anyone give any example of a game that was ruined because an optional easier difficulty mode was added? Nobody suggested the devs change the game dramatically, just that some options are added for the casual crowd. In a way, difficulty is like controls: it's hard to make it so that everybody likes it, so options are good.

I do agree that you should be careful listening to advice in the forums, but for a different reason. People here are usually really good gamers. I always see them on the top of the leaderboards of all games I play. There are very few average gamers who care enough about gaming to write on a forum about it. But average gamers make up most of your sales and you shouldn't make the mistake of thinking that the forum-majority-opinion is the opinion of the majority of your customers.

I do hope indeed that the game will be totally different with the updated controls. I still think I will not like the limited lives and that an option to remove them would be a good idea, but who knows, maybe it'll not be an issue. I do appreciate the quick update and the new control options do look good.

This is a great game so far and is probaly one of my favorite platformers on the app store, but I think that the difficulty is great as you would otherwise just fly through it and finish quickly.

I have not disregarded the calls for an easier difficulty.

I believe that by allowing extreme customisation for controls, we will enable less hardcore players to tweak and adjust the game to better fit their needs, and by proxy, find the game easier to play, so this is the first step :)

    Summary:

Challenging and a worthy game. 4/5 (after d-pad update, subject to change).

Overall, very imaginative take on a classic. Definitely stands on its own and I'm looking forward to seeing it grow. The graphics are tight, the attention to detail without any gaming sacrifice is über important and makes it a great game. Great sound, but you could add more as suggested (i.e. sound for jump, etc). Nevertheless, the music is captivating, and lends to creating an engaging and cool gameplay atmosphere. My next test is to find out if I can substitute the music with itunes. Update: works and will be enjoying this game Monday morning.

I'll write up more after completing the game. For now, I had to stop due to the d-pad shared issues. Just became uncomfortable for me as I was trying to get a perfect score on a level. Update, played again, and I'm starting to get used to the controls, but still would like to have options [patiently waiting for game update in App Store].

In the meantime, here are collected comments:

I love the idea of additional chapters. It makes for a great way to update and stay in touch with the community –I'm already imagining user submitted levels/chapters. Can't wait for multiplayer. Will it work similarly as the multiplayer over wifi used for ZombievilleUSA 2? Or better will it have an option to challenge a friend via the Game Center app?

Could you please make the pause button more obvious (too faint)? Or can you also make the time/score board a pause button?

The wrenches don't stay available long enough. You should consider making it a fix number instead of timelapsed. This way strategic players can save and use them at key moments.

More surface daytime levels/chapters would be great. Sometimes it's too dark and makes it hard to see what's going. A level/chapter involving the Brooklyn Bridge would be awesome and thus solving lack of light.

You've heard it time and time again: must update d-pad. Fixed position is a must. Instead of adding fuel to the fire, I'll share observations I hope will be used in a constructive manner:

1 - There are times when you need to stop, but there's no real way for me to be stationary while touching the screen. With that said, I naturally removed my finger. The main observation I made was that the first time I touch the screen the d-pad repositions and then I can "slide" to move. But by then I'm already dead :(

2 - You should look at previous touch games that do a great job of d-pad positioning and AI. My fav of all time is Age of Zombies. The way they implemented the dual stick controller (even with repositioning) is amazing. The system you have going reminds me of the horrible 1st update made to Eliminate:GunRange, where the pad kept sliding and sliding and sliding.

    Conclusion:

I'm surprised that TA haven't posted their review of the game yet. But I'm sure they're waiting for the d-pad update. So important. It's what makes or breaks the game. The game is amazing and pulls you in. To be honest I was gonna wait for the d-pad update, but after reading and following the forum posts I couldn't hold back. Too many spoilers and I wanted to experience them for myself.

    Soon, it'll be:

    Love the game.
    Love the controls.

Otherwise I'll just change my job from game developer at simian squared to marmoset masseur - its very stressful for these little creatures to be in zoos you know.

Update is flying to you now, with *confirmed* icade AND icontrolpad support AND 3 different dpad types AND movable buttons/dpad AND scalable buttons/dpad.

Next time you guys have a moan be warned, I might add Halo 5 to it or something :)
